I was so excited to take my kids to see the show. I have seen it about 3 times now, and I loved every minute of it. Now, when I say kids, I mean a teenager and a preteen. They love theater especially musical theater. I wanted to expose them to the brilliance of theater in New York. Being a former professional actor on Broadway, I am truly aware of the great talent that exist in New York.
Everyone from the ticket taker to the ushers were wonderful. They show began and it did not disappointment. The puppetry, the imagery, the opening processional and so much more were so exciting for my kids. They loved the show so much. However, I was a little disappointed in some of the performances, they seemed to be a little lackluster. I know that can happen from time to time. Maybe someone is sick and does the show anyway. I did many shows with a cold making sure I was at my best while dealing with an illness. But, I did feel a little like a few characters where just phoning it in. I do not type this lightly. I have the utmost respect for actors and artists. So many cannot do what they do, but wow. I couldn't help feeling like some of the actors were really ready to go home. With that being said, the Rafiki was remarkable that night. The hyenas were fantastic and a few more were great as well. I will not name the names of those I felt were phoning it in, but I know Disney can do better. I am never disappointed in anything Disney does, but those performances were a bit of a let down. That is all. Overall, still one of the most magical shows to watch on Broadway. Thank you for securing my kids love of theater.
