Not The Best Lion King I’ve Seen
by Broadway Lover on 1/20/20Minskoff Theatre - New YorkI took my oldest son 3 years ago to The Lion King in NYC and it was incredible! I decided to take my second son and my husband last week. The first half was incredible. The Rafiki wasn’t as strong as I had hoped, but Mufasa’s incredible performance made up for it. By the end of the first half, the older Simba was introduced. I was super unimpressed, but held out hope for a good second half performance. The second half was simply not good. Simba was weak and not a great performer. Rafiki had a more pivotal role in this second half and she could hardly hit the notes on “They Live in You”. I was so disappointed. It wasn’t at all to the quality I had seen three years ago. At $155 per seat, I expect the best in NYC, and this didn’t hit the mark. Still, I can’t deny the incredible costumes and staging.
