    Sound system/dialogue ruin beautiful show

    by M. M. on 9/10/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I loved the music. Lyrical singing, wonderful Mediterranean rhythms. But I could not understand at least 40% of the dialogue, which made the script feel choppy and weak.

    Disappointed

by CityGirl on 9/10/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I was so disappointed with this show. I expected more from this Tony Award winner. I found it excruciatingly slow, not very funny, and far short on musical numbers, though the songs they did perform were very good. The band's performance at the end of the show was excellent. We were suspicious when told upon entering the theater that there would be no intermission, and now we know why.

Great play not to be missed

    by Peter22 on 9/10/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The story is wonderful and Chilina is absolutely amazing as the lead. The songs are a delight and add so much to the story. See it!

    a big disappointment

    by S. on 9/10/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We were looking forward to this well-reviewed show and had purchased good seats. We were all very disappointed that we could NOT hear the performers for much of the entire play. The microphones were not programmed loud enough. We met several people leaving the theater who had seats in other parts of the theater and they too could not hear the actors. We have attended many performances over the years and have never once had any problem hearing. We really should be given a refund since we missed most of the show.

    Poignant and hysterical

by Sbxlady on 9/9/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The music was beautiful. The physical humor was hysterical. Just a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

Good music and sets, storyline is booooooring

    by M. on 9/9/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I really enjoyed the music. I wish I could have heard more solos from some of the gentlemen singing, they had tremendous voices! I could have listened to just the band playing all night long - they were glorious. But my goodness the plot sucked. It just dragged along, nothing really ended. The dude waiting by the phone (although I loved his voice) was so odd. Then all of a sudden a woman just starts bawling but we hardly heard anything leading up to that on their relationship. I so wish this plot took out about 3-4 of the mixed up stories, and instead focused on 1-2 themes. It felt so incomplete. It received tremendous professional reviews so perhaps they know something I do not.

    Dragged

    by M. L. on 9/9/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The play dragged. People were getting bored. It could be cut by at least 20 minutes. Best part of course was the band. Set and costumes were wonderful.

    Great Show with Sound Difficulties

    by S. W. on 9/9/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Great cast, great story. My party all struggled with understanding the accent and vocals. Sound system needs tweaks.

    I loved "The Band's Visit."

by MUSGirl on 9/8/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The music in "The Band's Visit" had a wonderful haunting quality. The middle eastern harmony blended with western harmony was unique with lovely melodies that spun out in unusual ways. The play was about love lost, opportunities lost and life that didn't go "quite my way." The music was poignant, lovely, and beautiful but in a totally different way than your usual Broadway manner.

It was good, although not great!

by Yossi on 9/8/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Not now! I prefer not to elaborate, and resent being required to do so!

I found it slow and difficult to understand with the accent.

by Takemetoamusical on 9/8/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I have seen many many musicals and this would rank near the bottom. The show starts out telling you that the event you probably didn’t hear about because it wasn’t that important. A kindness of a small town to some strangers. The music was ok but also slow. A few funny lines. Not for me.

Not really worth the ticket price

by Visiting Chicago on 9/8/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The venue seemed way to big for this production. The performers were talented, but the sound system and accents made much of the words unrecognizable. Mixing was not good with voices were drowned out by the instruments. The show has an interesting premise but the is slow paced with not much of a plot. Characters are just not well thought out and their motivations are very confusing. Seems like the script needed a lot more work.

    Poignant, and touching

    by S. P. on 9/8/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The production was riveting. The use of the circular escalator which wove the scenes and characters into and out of place was simple yet brilliant. The different vignettes of stories were wistful and relatable. An over all feeling of melancholy was woven throughout and draped with outstanding music. The best!

The Band's Visit was a fantstic trip!!!!!

by Diana on 9/7/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Attended the Wed. matinee Sept 4th. I was familiar with the music and was anxious to see the production. It was all I expected and more. I totally adored it. The cast I saw was fantsastic, especially Chilina Kennedy~~~a little heavy on the accent! The "soldiers" were exceptionally talented with the instruments they played. Loved their humor. I didn't expect the throw back songs in the roller skating scene, totally enjoyed that scene. This is the second show I've seem with no intermission. "Come From Away" was very short, but Band's Visit was much longer. Person next to me kept checking his watch!!!!! Perhaps in the future when tickets are taken, patrons could be told there is no intermission. Glad I got my souveniers prior to the show!!!!! Mass exit at the end!!!!!!!!

    Hauntingly beautiful musical

by Dolly on 9/7/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We loved The Band’s Visit. The music is hauntingly beautiful. The story line is complex as are the characters. Our only criticism is that there were a couple of slow moving segments, although perhaps this was done intentionally to impress upon the audience that life in this town was extremely slow moving and dull.

    Disappointing

by lambos on 9/7/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Slow and not memorable. Maybe with all the hype and awards I was expecting much more.😢

    So so

by Rich on 9/7/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Although the critics love this show, I’m not sure why. There were some clever lines and a few laughs, but the pace was very slow. The accents the actors used made it difficult at times to understand the words in both the dialogue and the songs. How the show won so many Tony’s on Broadway is a mystery to me.
