    Beautiful musical, moving story

by Janet on 9/17/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The Band's Visit tells a moving story with lovely music and excellent acting. It is an unusual musical as there is a sadness, yet also a sweetness to it. It is the story of how people from different cultures can communicate with one another. I have seen it twice and lived it both times.

Very good show in Chicago. We really loved the New York cast

by Dr. Lee on 9/17/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This story is multilayered and demonstrates the complexities of existence. It is so well said. Watch the film first to acclimate yourself to the story because it flies by very quickly.

    Good not great

by Grandy on 9/16/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I think the Cadillac Palace was too big a theater for the show… It's a more intimate show and would have been more effective in a smaller venue. There were several excellent excellent moments such as "answer me ". I have been waiting for this sofa long time and was disappointed that it was a four star show and not a five star show but 4 stars is still very good

    The Band's Visit

by njhreaderdolphin on 9/16/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The Cadillac Theater is a beautiful venue in a very exciting city. This particular play was not my favorite, the talent was there, but the story was hard to follow. I would not see this show again.

    Really Great Storyline!!!

I really loved this performance. The interactions between the characters was fantastic, and the music and songs were very heartwarming. I would definitely see it again.

    A great show

by JimC on 9/16/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

By far one of the best musicals I have ever seen. The performances were superb and the story captivating.

    Hated it!!!!

    by C. on 9/16/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The 3 of us disliked this play so much we almost left. We could not understand the heavy accents of the actors at all!!!! Some in the crowd laughed at dialogue but we had no pleasure in enjoying it. And to think it won 7 Tony's and was selected the best musical is unbelieveable

    Stunning

    by Crazycat2 on 9/15/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I saw this on Broadway and the touring show was just as good! Fabulous singing, timing and staging.

    Secular Play

by Art on 9/15/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We’ll acted play with some fine examples of Egyptian music. Only secular characters could have pulled off the sloppy sentimental small stories about loving relationships.

    Diminished experience

by KayPasa on 9/14/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I splurged on an orchestra seat exactly center and fifth row from the stage to enjoy the full experience of this Tony award winning musical.... but the bottom line was a poor experience for me as I could not hear what the actors were saying most of the time and could not distinguish the lyrics either. There was no intermission so I could not go get an assistive listening device. As I was leaving my row, I asked numerous people also exiting if they had any challenges understanding what the actors were saying, it was unanimous.... all agreed with me that they could not hear very well either.... these were not just older patrons but also middle aged people too. We could not tell if the microphones/sound system was faulty or if it was the acoustics of the theatre.

    What’d He Say?

by Sparkle Plenty on 9/14/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The cast was great: good actors, strong singers and they played instruments of ethnic and traditional music. We found the accents so heavy, it was difficult to understand the dialogue and lyrics. Patrons in our area were frequently asking “what’d he say?” The story is sweet and no dirty language or if there was, it was so heavily accented, we didn’t recognize it.

    AWESOME Musical! Don’t miss it!

by Musical Mayven. on 9/13/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This beautiful, delicate musical should be seen by all. Just exquisite. My ONLY complaint is the house sound. At least where we were sitting, the actor’s mics were almost inaudible. Could just be a dead spot in the theater, but hey, our money is green - make it work, Cadillac Palace! Again, not the show’s fault. It was wonderful.

    Great!

by Old School on 9/13/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Actually make that a 4.5--and that's only because I also saw "Hamilton" soon afterwards. I had seen the film, and loved this adaptation. I also loved Ronnie Malley (tabla and lute). And my daughter, who has no context for this at all, was very moved by the show. I wish I had realized that a railing would be in my line of sight, from the first row of the mezzanine, since I'm so short. But it wasn't a real problem, mostly.

    Sad experience

    by P. M. on 9/13/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Might have liked the play, but the sound system was terrible. Could not understand what was being said or sung (maybe 10% of the words were understandable).

The Band's Visit was too short

by MissyS on 9/12/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I had seen the movie and was looking forward to the Broadway play, especially because it had won many awards. I did enjoy the production, but was a little disappointed because the story and music was somewhat fragmented. I would have like to have had more music, maybe some reprises. There were many subplots, some of which seemed irrelevant. Kid waiting at the phone booth with the annoying bright light, for example. I wanted to get to know the main characters more. But it was over in 90 minutes. I left wanting more.

    Overrated

by Theater goer on 9/11/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This rather lightweight production ignores the realities on the ground a fractious Middle East. It is a friendly “feel-good” play that apparently satisfies audiences. It is also overpriced compared with the fine theater already available in Chicago.

    Wrong venue

    by H. P. on 9/11/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The music was lovely. However, it was impossible to understand the words, perhaps due to the accents but also due to acoustics. A smaller, more intimate venue would have helped.

    Low energy

    by M.G on 9/10/19Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The theme of the first song was the boring nature of the town and people’s lives. I felt I was living it.
