    Theater Fan

by RedSoxRobin on 4/17/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

I attend live theater as often as possible, whether it is community, Boston, Providence, Worcester or NYC. I was disappointed with “Company.” The acting was good, the singing was very good, but the story line was just ok. A few high moments, but most of it was just average.

Great show and customer support very helpful

by Ralph1982 on 4/17/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

This revival was terrific, updated a 50 year old show to make it contemporary, and loaded it up with Broadway pros to pull off perhaps the best revival that we’ve ever seen (and we’re old!) We had to switch our day to see the show, the the customer support we had from Ticketmaster was very good. Knowledgeable, friendly, good listener, overall a solid A. (That the app can not recognize a switch in dates is not ideal and should be resolved!)

    Canned

by J.Black on 4/17/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

Had not seen Company in over a decade and was thrilled with the changes in casting to make it more reflective of today's world. The piece was very well produced. What did not work were two things: -Some of the characterizations were bizarrely broad and rigid, which made it difficult to empathize with the primary focus: connection. Many of these couples did not feel like humans who knew and with all our quirks, loved each other. -Much of the piece felt canned, like the actors were going through their paces rather than communicating deep feelings.

    Horrible

by Condy on 4/16/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

Worst show I have ever seen. Walked out at intermission. No one in my group wanted to stay despite having spent hundreds of dollars on tickets!

    Thorough Disappointment

One of the worst shows I've seen. Great cast but had the misfortune to be a part of this show. Mass exodus at intermission...Overall a poor production.

    Not as good as expected...

by Pchaps on 4/15/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

The show was medicore...I think to say it is not ok for ages over 8 was inaccurate. One scene in particular was not age appropriate. Storyline was kind of hard to follow and some scenes were to much confusion. Ending was definitely was a bummer. Was somewhat disappointed overall.

I loved this show so much, I saw it 3 times!

    by Greg on 4/13/24

This show was a joy to watch. I'm a little embarrassed and annoyed by the other reviews on this thread that are so quick to dismiss it. I think a lot of these reviews are coming from people who do not understand that this is a revival of a 1970s musical. I also imagine that some audiences who are complaining are not mature enough to hear its intense exploration of one of life's biggest questions: will I die alone or not? In this Boston touring version of "Company,"the ensemble captivated me with naturalistic acting and theatrical showmanship that never went over-the-top in a bad way. The director and her design team found a new way into Sondheim's dusty musical by staging it from the main character Bobby's perspective, framing the pressures she feels as a single woman in New York as a bit of an Alice in Wonderland rollercoaster, at times absurd and at times mortifying. This helped the sometimes choppy feel of the musical by embracing the messiness Bobby feels, instead of trying to force it into being a traditional play with an arc. Yet, it also maintained consistency with visual motifs (the ticking clock of life or opening/closing doors of opportunity) that kept it flowing. In that sense, this is the first time I've seen "Company"hit like Sondheim's classic "Into the Woods,"which is weird, tragic, and hilariously disjointed. Considering both London and Broadway audiences/critics raved about this show, I think that unfortunately audiences writing in from the tour stops may not have liked the show because of their own small-mindedness, lack of curiosity, and impatience. Go see this!

    Meh

by Jaxx189 on 4/13/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

The cast was talented. Due to its vignette style you don’t get much character development. The music with the exception of 3 songs is forgettable. It would be better as a straight play.

    NOT GREAT

Boring show, basically a skit mocking marriage. A lot of the same songs over and over just boring.

    Bit disappointed

by BL on 4/12/24Citizens Opera House - Boston

I have been to a few Broadway plays and its always extremely exciting to watch a new play. My expectations are normally high, since its Broadway. The show started with a technical issue that occurred 5 minutes into the show where the scenery wasn't working properly and we had to wait over 15/20 minutes to get it fixed. That is something out of people's control normally, although annoying. The main character Bobby wasn't charismatic nor had a great breathtaking voice. Side characters were more interesting. The music was ok, but I missed the storytelling. It didn't make sense, nor was funny (this is a comedy musical). This was my husband's birthday present and it didn't meet our expectations.
