SUZANNE VEGA IN CONCERT:
In the late '80s, singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega carved a small but potent niche for herself with a relaxed, poetic brand of alt-pop. Nuanced, witty songs like "Tom's Diner" and "Luka" drew heavily on folk traditions, earning her popularity in alternative circles that she continues to enjoy today. A humble, genuine performer, Vega's soothing voice and smart songwriting will be front and center as she embarks on a 2014 tour in support of her eighth studio album Tales from the Real of the Queen of Pentacles.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
LA-born, New York-raised Suzanne Vega was a precocious young talent, beginning to write poetry at age nine and penning her first song by age 14. While majoring in literature at Bard College, she frequently traveled to Manhattan to perform in small venues and participate in the songwriter cooperative Fast Folk. She became one of the first artists from the Fast Folk family to make it big when she landed a major label contract in 1984, releasing her self-titled debut a year later. The album was a critical and commercial success, setting the stage for a string of acclaimed releases that included Solitude Standing (1987) and Days of Open Hand (1990). On the road in 2014 in support of her eighth album, fans can expect to hear some much-awaited new material alongside favorites like "Tom's Diner" and "In Liverpool."
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Suzanne is an amazing performer; she is so personable and comfortable with her audience. I almost felt like she was in my living room. Her voice continues to be strong and unique; she hasn't aged at all.”
"Suzanne has definitely got stamina...she took no breaks, her voice was remarkable, and her story-telling added to the enjoyment. She gave a walk down memory lane encore (Luka, Tom's Diner, Calypso, + one other) and played the guitar with energy."
"Incredible show. Once again Suzanne Vega impressed with her simple poetic lyrics and quirky folk/rock/pop. Her guitarist is amazing!"

Great voice & presence, great guitar player So many good songs! New material was excellent too! A wonderful evening…
Another fantastic show from Suzanne Vega. A good combination of older favorites and songs off of her new album.
First, Town Hall is my favorite venue to see music—the sound is great. And there isn't a bad seat in the house, you always feel like you're getting an intimate show in a private living room. This show, beginning to end was a beacon in these dark times: Lucy Wainwright Roche and Suzzy Roche's opening set was wonderful. They set the mood with their witty, poignant songs and gorgeous harmonies. And Suzanne Vega has never been better—and I've seen her many times over the years (35 to be exact). She was funny, relaxed, and sounded amazing. And sang a perfect blend of old timeless songs I've loved since they first came out, and new songs. Adore her cellist, who brings a level of depth to her music, but also love the simplicity of hearing Suzanne play alone. It was a perfect balm after marching in the rain at the protest. All in all a delightful evening.
Suzanne put on a wonderful performance with her small group that truly delighted the crowd. She's a fantastic song writer and performer as well as a very personable stage presence. The audience loved her personal life stories and how the music reflected her experiences. Overall, a really enjoyable evening. Definitely recommend!
This was an incredible show, and Suzanne Vega really rocked, with all the great old songs, new additions and stories.
Suzanne Vega in the Old Dutch Church in Kingston NY, was outstanding. Having seen her before, I must say this was my favorite time. The low lighting and acoustics of the venue lent themselves to her sound. A great selection of “old, new and other” songs…I couldn’t think of any that were missed.
We went to both the show and the soundcheck. We enjoyed speaking with and meeting Suzanne. The sound was great and we loved the Old Dutch Church. Suzanne is a one of a kind performer and is a true crowd pleaser. The whole evening was special and the experience was truly intimate. We will seek her out when she tours again with her upcoming album. We hope to see her at Cafe Carlyle in NYC.
First off, the concert was in a church so the acoustics were amazing. Suzannne Vega was beautiful, witty and funny. She was down to earth with her audience and her voice was amazing! Her voice rang through that church! If she plays around here again, I will definitely go see her.
Great story Tyla and great entertainment was so blessed to see her
The concert was amazing. Suzanne never disappoints. The concert hall was unique and had great sound. I’d love to see her again soon.
