  • Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder thilled!

by Toadmom on 1/9/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

My two sisters and I are new fans of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, having just heard him play live for the first time in Nashville at the Ryman in November 2010. When we heard them at the Birchmere on Friday, January 7, we were blown away! A great show, wonderful variety of music and every single person in the band is an awesome musician. It's official - we are now groupies.

  • Amazing

I'm not a big fan of Skaggs's new album "Mosaic," but the show was amazing - some of the best live music I've ever heard. He's got a fun voice, the songs varied up, and hot damn the boys of Kentucky Thunder can pick fast! This was my first time at the Birchmere, and I loved the venue. It was small so every seat was great, and our waitress was very good. The food was okay - certainly good enough for a concert.

The event was great except for all the nickel and dime charges Tickemaster imposes. They had 3 different fees that they applied to the ticket price increasing the total cost by 33%!!!

Very good show, I would go see them again. Ricky Skaggs has surrounded himself with some outstanding musicians. If you even remotely like Bluegrass music, don't miss this show. You won't be sorry.

  • Bluegrass-a-palooza!!

by Murphymom on 12/8/10Saenger Theatre Mobile - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

The night started with a great "renegade bluegrass" band named Rolling in the Hay. They were fantastic. Then Ricky and Kentucky Thunder came out and set their instruments on fire. The skill level of all the instrumentalists was phenominal. Most of the band had their own personal CD's. But, for me, the greatest part of bluegrass is the harmony and theirs has got to be unmatched. I will go again and would recommend it to all bluegrass lovers.

  • Ricky Scaggs

by CoraP on 12/7/10Saenger Theatre Mobile - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

Ricky and his fellow musicians were very, very good. We enjoyed it very much. However, the opening act, Rolling in the Hay, was not enjoyable at all. The singing was horrible.

  • Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder were awesome!

Ushers were helpful in finding our seats. Skaggs was great and as always surrounded by so many talented players. I thought his program was just the right length Even parking downtown Mobile wasn't an issue. The Saenger is just beautiful. Wonderful time. Thanks.

  • Thanks, Ricky!

Ricky Skaggs and his band were, as always, fabulous. Their musicianship speaks for itself. Ricky's dedication to bluegrass music was appreciated by all in attendance. I only wish he had time to sing, Somebody's Prayin' which is one of my favorite of his.

Terrific show. Low key but amazing bluegrass by a neo-legend and his scorching band, Kentucky Thunder. They picked it hard, and the vocals were stellar. Would highly recommend seeing Skaggs and co. whenever possible.

  • Ricky Skaggs at His Best

by AKNY on 7/4/10Belleayre Music Festival - HighmountRating: 5 out of 5

Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder were at their hottest. Even people that do not appreciate Blue Grass were tapping their feet. Each of the artists in Kentucky Thunder are top notch. The fiddler is one of the best I have heard in a long time.

Blue grass music is not my favorite type of music: However with that being said, the evening was still fun and entertaining. We had a great time.

  • Bluegrass Heaven

by SweetPetunia on 2/1/10Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - MontgomeryRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was such a breath of fresh air with a warmth of springtime you almost forgot it was winter. Excellent toe tapping entertainment. The Musicians seem to enjoy it as much as the audiance and made you feel like you were at front porch jam session. Great group of talented musicians. Tommy Emanuel was a true delight, never seen anything quite like him. Ricky mentioned possibly doing a Christmas concert , I certainly hope they do, would love to make it for that one.

  • Ricky Skaggs was everything I expected!!

by walkwithHicks on 2/1/10Montgomery Performing Arts Centre - MontgomeryRating: 5 out of 5

Unreal... WOW... Awesome! Ricky and his band were everything I expected. It was great to watch such masters of their instruments play together. His fiddle player from "the old days" was in Montgomery, and accompanied them on stage, and everyone could tell they were glad to be on-stage together again. Tommy Emmanuel - wow - I have never seen anyone play a guitar that well before, and I'm quite a music enthusiast! If you have a chance to see either of these guys, make sure you don't let that chance pass you by!
