THis festival was great! the weather could not have been better. The acoustics inside fort gains are outstanding. I love festivals with such a relaxed comfortable atmosphere.

It was a great event. I had an awesome time there. The music was excellent and the overall feel of the event was wonderful. I really enjoyed myself.

Overall well done. Great musicians and fine performances. Was a bit put off by the security screening--e.g. I had to open my glasses case ( glad I didn't have anything interesting in it ). Also thought that the mixing could have been done better--e.g. I thought some instruments too much or too little from time to time. Food court could have been better.

This is the third time I have seen Ricky Skaggs. First time at this venue. Great show, lots of energy as always. Look forward to seeing him again

From the openinng show by "High Valley" to the main attraction "Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder" the evening was incredible! The vocal harmonies were awesome and we've never heard better instrumentals.

  • better than I had hoped

This was the first time to see Ricky Skaggs live. I knew he was good from television, cds, and videos. This performance surpassed all expectations. These guys are just that good. I went with a friend who enjoys the same kind of music and he was very impressed. Also the crowd was great, people had fun, and everything was upbeat and positive. What a show. WHAT A SHOW!

  • Loved it. Ricky & Kentucky Thunder were great.

by financialwriter on 4/4/11Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

I have been watching Ricky Skaggs schedule, hoping he would come up to the Great Lakes area. I was very happy to be able to go see him. He brought Kentucky Thunder, and it was a wonderful show. The Bear's Den is a great place to see a performer. It is comfortable but intimate. I will go back whenever they bring a performer I would like to see.

  • great show all around

  • The bomb!!

by Rickwilldoolittle on 3/28/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of bluegrass since I was a child, and I have 5 years on Ricky, so I could have been let down. But hands down, they are great!! As we were walking to our car after the show I said to my wife, it doesn't matter how long you live, you'll never hear those songs played any better than that!!!

  • Ricky in Chandler

by Scorchy2 on 3/28/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

I almost did not attend this performance as it looked like an all bluegrass festival and he would not be playing his old country hits. I am not a fan of bluegrass. Ended up buying tickets at the last minute and I was sure glad that I did. Ricky was phenomenal and so was his band. Every note was sung pitch perfect and crystal clear even at breakneck speeds. You can't help but love his singing, the inflections, delivery, everything is just masterful. The band was superb as well, particularly the fiddle player. He must have been in his mid twenties only but was a true virtuoso. He was able to play in all styles superbly, and had a moment to show off in a signature gypsy style piece. One of the rhythm guitarists was also given the opportunity to solo in a signature piece. He had a phenomenally sounding voice, such a great sound and totally unexpected judging by his appearance. He truly blew the roof off the place and got the loudest ovation of the evening. There were some great tunes I had never heard before that are still playing in my mind that I will have to find a copy of. I never realized bluegrass could be this good. Ricky teased the audience stating he might come back in a year with his full country band to play his country hits. I truly hope this happens and I will be first in line! Thank you Ricky!

  • Success for Chandler Center for the Arts

by macvsogdon on 3/28/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

The Chandler Center for the Arts scored another huge success with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Ricky was terrific, as he has been for years and years. The Kentucky Thunder must be one of the best bluegrass bands in the world. What a group of extremely talented musicians. Andy Leftwich was on fiddle and set the strings on fire.I loved the piece he played from his album, although I missed the title. Cody Kilby on lead guitar was terrific. Paul Brewster played rhythm and also sang "Everybody's Talking" from his new album. I am ordering that album! Jim Mills played that banjo so smoothly it was hard to believe the wonderful sounds he brought out of it. The other members Mark Fain, on Bass, and Eddie Faris, who played rhythm and sang background, were also marvelous. A truly enjoyable evening and well worth the cost.

  • Ricky Skaggs great show, great venue

by dojoel on 3/28/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 4 out of 5

We really enjoyed the show. The Chandler Center for the Arts is a great venue with good visability and sound. If you are a fan of Bluegrass it doen't get much better than Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. I am always amazed at what fine musicians work in the Bluegrass genre. I was especially impressed by the guitar picker but the whole band was very polished and solid. I like Ricky and enjoyed his onstage patter. I would have liked to have heard more of Ricky's tales about working with Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley, two legends of Bluegrass music. One of the best live shows I have attended!

  • Fantastic

by lgpyryt on 3/28/11Chandler Center for the Arts - ChandlerRating: 5 out of 5

The Ricky Skaggs concert was fantastic. I found it so nice to not see tons of glitz & lights that take away from the music, so nice to see & hear raw awesome natural talent of Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. Love his bluegrass music and always have. The gospel music was so touching. He certainly let everyone know that God is the center of his life. It was wonderful that he shared that with the crowd. The band is certainly full of real talent. How nice they are able to play with such a real Master.

by MapDude on 1/16/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent Concert. Always memorable when he comes to the Birchmere. Should be the subject of a live album and video

  • Ricky Scaggs is great.

by CalvertHouse on 1/11/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Had a wonderful evening with friends celebrating my husband's birthday. The music and energy level was great. The Birchmere needs to do something about sound system however. Sound is a little lost on those of us in the back 40, and it sure wouldn't cost too much to do something about that. Wonderful bluegrass artist, beautiful mandolin and the tenor's voice a great treat. But the sound system.....

  • Ricky Skaggs at Birchmere

by SilverLn on 1/10/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first time at Birchmere. Loved the show. Ricky and the band played beautiful music. Talk to the audience some times and created warm atmosphere. I am sure everybody had special memories and shared special moments through their songs.

  • All the musicians were amazing.

    by Grammy71 on 1/10/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great. They started right on time and went through an hour and a half with no intermission. The food at the Birchmere was also very good with very friendly service.

  • Ricky Skaggs at the Birchmere

    by volunteer71 on 1/10/11Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

It was good as expected, but he needs to do more of the diversity of songs he's done in the past. including his years in Country & Western. To do 75% Bill Monroe and Stanley is too much and does not fully display the talent of Ricky and the band.
