  • Absolutely MAGICAL

by duchessoreo on 12/24/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Stoner Winslett and her phenomenal group did a magnificent job transporting the audience on Clara's magical adventure. My tickets were originally for the Saturday night performance that had been cancelled due to the extraordinary snow event the city had. Thank you for the call of cancellation, as I live an hour away, and it would have been quite dangerous to try and make the performance. This was truely a stunning interpretation of the Christmas favourite - The Nutcracker. I have seen this ballet numerous times, around the country and this is by far my favourite. The scenery and exquisitely coloured costumes were not only beautiful but so very clever. I really felt like I was in the magical, snow laden forest, and when Clara and her Prince were flying through the clouds ..... amazing. Thank you so much for such a pleasant memory for years to come. I had attended last year as well, and this year did not disappoint. Loved both the Carpenter and the Landmark theatres - - perfect places for the production to be held. And parking was a snap - just around the corner. Thank you again, and Merry Christmas.

This was an excellent show and I highly recommend to all. The newly restored Carpenter Theatre is nice. Money well spent Richmond Va.

  • Richmond Ballet: Nutcracker is a delight.

by Mother52 on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen the Nutcracker peformed by several different ballet companies, and this one is at the top of the list. The family friendly performance is not only a beautiful ballet, but it has some lighthearted moments that bring a smile, if not a laugh. The costumes and scenery are beautiful. It is a performance that should be seen every Christmas holiday. We actually saw the Sun., Dec. 20, 2009 matinee. Our travel plans from North Carolina changed due to the snow storm.

  • A SUPERB PERFORMANCE

by 1COCO on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

THIS WAS MY FIRST PROFESSIONAL BALLET PLAY AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. MY DAUGHTER BOUGHT TICKETS FOR THE TWO OF US FOR CHRISTMAS AND WE THOUGHT THE SHOW WAS EXCELLENT. THE CHILDREN AS WELL AS THE ADULTS IN THE SHOW DID AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB. I HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE THE NUTCRACKER EVERY YEAR WHEN CHRISTMASTIME CAME AROUND FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS BUT I HAD TO WORK AND COULDN'T GO. THIS YEAR WAS DIFFERENT AND WE BOTH WENT. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND GOING. IN FACT NOW WE HOPE TO SEE EVEN MORE SHOWS. ROMEO AND JULIET IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY IN THE UPCOMING SHOWS. ALSO THE BEAUTY INSIDE THE THEATRE IS AMAZING AND THE VENDORS WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. WE EACH BOUGHT THE OTHER A SOUVENIR GIFT AND THE NUTCRACKER WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS A VERY SPECIAL MOTHER/DAUGHTER DAY AT THE THEATRE.

  • Ballet was great - preferred event at Landmark

by Veebar on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

The ballet was beautiful and well performed. The decorations were outstanding and the Richmond Symphony was fantastic. My chidren were disapponted that the Sugarplum fairy didn't "fly in the air" like previous years, however the dancing was superb. I was disappointed in the new locattion - the Carpenter Center. Parking was expensive ($12) and hard find. I beleive the Landmark Theater was a much better location with available (and affordable) parking nearby.

  • Awesome version of Nutcracker

by Jadedog on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen several versions of the Nutcracker over the years, including the ABT's, and the Richmond Ballet did a truly impressive job. The "new" sets are gorgeous, the costumes are beautiful, and there were a few fun, innovative variations on the dances in the Land of Sweets. Excellent!

  • Outstanding performance

by Enlitened on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The Nutcracker was outstanding. My 13 year old son even enjoyed the show. I cant even image the time and effort of all cast members to create such a wonderful play.

  • Wonderful holiday treat!

by Anonymous on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I went with my 6 year-old, 2 college students and my mother -- everyone had a fabulous time. Beautiful, charming production -- dancing was lovely! Carpenter Center was wonderful and with the renovations there are plenty of restrooms and concession facilities! Great seats.

  • Great Performance, great venue, poor policies

by Mickeyfan33 on 12/23/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

The performance of both the Richmond Ballet and the Richmond Symphony was superb; the sets were fantastic and the venue is beatiful. The overall experience was less than enjoyable however as people were allowed to trickle in for 15 - 20 minutes after the show started as well as people coming and going during the performance. Very distracting; probably would not go again!

It was a lovely performance. It was my daughter's first time seeing the performance, and she loved it. Thanks, Richmond Ballet, and the great people sitting around us. The Richmond Symphony also did a fantastic job! Everything was just magical. Merry Christmas!

  • Delightful and Entertaining

by Jomaree on 12/22/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Going to the ballet I was a little apprehensive about how good the show would be. After the first 50 minutes had passed I couldn't belive how well thought out the production was. All of the dancers did a wonderful job. You could really tell the skill and devotion they have to their art. I was impressed that the children did very well . It is usually difficult to have young children in a production as important as Nutcracker, but the Richmond Ballet children were outstanding. I was impressed how the ballet incorporated humor into Nutcracker. It was very family friendly and even audience members who do not prefer seeing a two hour dance show enjoyed it. The stage was beautifully decorated and the theater was wonderful. When the curtain opened, the audience was treated to a colorful and impressive stage decor. Not very many companys put so much ardor and excitment into the stage. I am very happy I went and the money I spent was well worth it. I plan to attend every year and eagerly await the Richmond Ballet's next production. When you enter the magical world of The Nutcracker, you will never want to leave.

  • Nutcracker tradition

by MomSheri on 12/22/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

The Nutcracker is beautiful and the performers were wonderful as usual. However, we missed the intimacy of the Landmark. Our seats were a bit high because we waited too long to purchase tickets. Next year, I will get them early.

  • The Nutcracker was magical ...

by MaryBeth9 on 12/22/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Took our daughters, 8 and 9, for the 3rd time in their lives ... they loved it as much this time as they did 2 years ago (we go every other year). The costume colors and scenery this year were gorgeous. And, the dancing, as always, was superb! A friend was in it this year, which made it a little more fun ~

  • Best Nutcracker Performance I've Seen

by Red37 on 12/22/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen multiple different ballet performances of The Nutracker in the country, but the Richmond Ballet has the best arrangement and execution. Stunning and wonderfully entertaining! I especially love the small side-stories that occur at the Christmas Eve party. There were too many to catch them all. The butler was particularly amusing!

  • The Nutcracker

by Fitgmom on 12/21/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The Nutcracker was incredible......I absolutely loved the choreography and the scenery. The dancers were excellent. A magical afternoon for my grandchildren, daughters, and myself.

  • Nutcracker was exquisite!

by TRIgirlDebbieJo on 12/21/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous sets, beautiful costumes! Peter Farrow, who played the nephew is a boy to be watched. We will see him go "big time" in the future. The girl that played Clara,( Sunday, 4:30) danced Clara the best I've ever seen her danced.

OUTSTANDING!! HAVE SEEN THIS SEVERAL TIMES. THIS WAS THE BEST EVER.

  • Very Disappointed

by tlthurston on 12/21/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 2 out of 5

This is an annual event for me and my family (group of 7). My 5 year old nephew was able to join us for the first time. I was excited to introduce him to the ballet. A bit of culture in the arts. I felt like the show was rushed. Perhaps it was because of the snow storm the day before but is wasn't the WOW show that I wanted to see. It seemed like scenes were cut very short.

  • Great first-time experience!

by LoverOfDance on 12/20/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see the Nutcracker for years. My boyfriend and I had never been to a ballet before, so we decided to treat ourselves to a night out for our Christmas gifts to each other. After finally finding the place, and slipping in the door just as the opening scene was starting, we made it to our seats and thoroughly enjoyed the evening! What an impressive display of elegance and strength! Merry Christmas to all!
