  • This will be a tradition

by ChrisInRichmond on 12/19/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I took my wife to the Richmond Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker for her birthday. This is now, oficially, a tradition. We had a splendid time. The dancing was splendid and the dramatic costumes and intriquite set designs were magnificent. The Richmond Symphony did not dissapoint either. We had a fantastic experience and can't wait until next year!!!

Very well executed. Costumes were beautiful and the sets were amazing. Good for all ages. I noticed even the very young (and this was an evening performance) were enjoying the show. The dancers were awesome!

  • The Nutcracker/Delightful

by TOBRocks on 12/18/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I never tire of Richmond Ballet's production of the Nutcracker. It is always excellent and delightfully uplifting. The talent in the company is unsurpassed. Though we see it every year as a mother/daughter tradition, it's always as enjoyable as the first time. Bravo to all who entertain us with their inspiring art.

I give the performance five stars. The kids stole the show for me. Loved the entire performance. Can't wait to go again! The seating is not recommended for anyone who is larger or tall- unless it is an isle. The show made me forget that my big butt was crowded in the small seats!-hehe The dancers seemed to love what they are doing and it shows.

The Nutcracker was the best this year that I have ever attended. The costumes and props were wonderful. The talent was fantastic. It always helps me get into the Christmas spirit. The orchestra was incredible and it was wonderful. I hope everyone gets to see it and appreciate the talent we have in Richmond. It was a first class production.

  • Richmond Ballet's The Nutcracker was magical

by InTownGirl on 12/14/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed yestederday's matinee performance of The Nutcracker at the Carpenter Center. Clara and the Nutcracker Prince were both wonderful - amazing stage presence and gracefulness for such young dancers, and their smiles could be seen all the way up in the balcony. The entire performance was magical, even humorous and lighthearted at times, just the way it should be. The scenery and costumes took my breath away. And let me add that the Carpenter Center's restoration is beautifully done, from the twinkling lights on the ceiling of the theater to the festive (and comfortable) lobby. My daughter and I arrived about 45 minutes early, found a parking space right away, and enjoyed drinks and snacks in the lobby bar. And getting out of the garage on 7th Street was a breeze - we sailed right down 8th Street to the Downtown Expressway and were home in 10 minutes! Unbelievable. I couldn't have asked for more, even in the pouring rain.

This year's Nutcracker by the Richmond Ballet was lovely. Great to see resources put into having a choir for Snowflake Ballet rather than for a flying butterfly--that was silly in past Waltz of the Flowers and distracting.

  • The best production of The Nutcracker!

by RVAnewb on 12/14/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best production of The Nutcracker I have seen. The first act, which, in my opinion, can get boring and cheesy was actually bright and entertaining. I was blown away by the set design and the costumes. I would recommend this event to anyone; it was well worth my money!

  • The Nutckracker

by Monsey on 12/14/09Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

While the Nutcracker is beautifully done with its era-costuming, talented ballet dancers, wonderous colors and lighting effects, not to mention the incredible Richmond Symphony, it is entertainment I would do no more than once every 5+ years or so. My daughters (ages 22 & 7) LOVED it but they both agreed that the Snow dance in Act I and the Sugar Plum Fairy dance in Act II were a bit longer than they should have been. They enjoyed the fun the Bear brought to the stage. My youngest love the little sheep! I enjoyed the flowing performance of all the ballet dancers. There was so much talent on that stage!
