Opening Night 2010 was my first attendance ever of the Richmond Ballet's Nutcracker, but it will most certainly not be my last. The Symphony was flawless, the performances entertaining and inspiring, and the costumes and set were delightful. Viewing was difficult at times. But that was not a production issue. I will definitely attend again!

The Richmond Ballet is wonderful and the Richmond Symphony is exquisite. The City of Richmond is very fortunate. I most certainly will be back. KPS III Hatteras, NC

  • Nutcracker is always consistantly great!

Wonderful Holiday treat that I have been attending for many years. Production is exceptional and the talent is A+. Would recommend highly. The only downside was Clara's teaparty event afterwards where 75% of the people waiting to get in were surprised to find out that there was an additional charge to attend. With ticket prices well over $100 a piece, an additional $27 for a teaparty left a bad taste in my mouth (which was fortunately remedied with cidar a few moments later). The fact that almost no one knew that there was a charge for the event because it was not advertised as there being a cost should be fixed by the Ballet's marketing dept.

The production was excellent. The costumes were wonderful and the dancers were great. It was an event for children and adults to remember.

Great show. My only concern was the large head man that sat directly infront of me preventing me from see the stage.

  • Amazing, as expected

The performance was, for lack of a better word, magical. The music, color, lights, details, costumes, everything was just incredible. I did find it odd, however, that the audience kept applauding throughout most of the performance (at other performances, applause usually only occurred at major breaks, not periodically mid-piece, etc.

I had never been to see a ballet or anything like this production before in my life. I bought these tickets as a surprise to my wife and her sister and husband and did not know what to expect. I was initially surprised at what I originally thought was a very slow start only to be put back in my seat by what I can only describe as boyish wonder when the toys came out of the box. Before I saw this production, I would have never believed that I could be so enthralled by story told only by people's bodies, but let me tell you I have a new family Christmas tradition. Absolutely Spectacular!

My first show was awesome! The customer service was extraordinary. Thank you very much for the extra extra miles that you shown on Saturday! They should give a raise to the ladies that helped me plan a special night!

I have attended this Ballet in Richmond for many years. It has always been outstanding and I travel approx 300 miles to see it. I am aware in the past this ballet has won many awards. However, this year, the tallent was just not there. Not sure if we saw the main principles dancing at the matinee, but the chorography was weak at best and the dancers were not strong. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed.

  • Best Nutcracker yet

by HayTay on 12/13/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

My mother and I have gone to see the Nutcracker 3 or 4 times before. We took my 11 year-old niece for the first time and she loved it. It seemed like the most colorful and alive performance we have been to. We had the best time and it was a great experience for my niece's first time attending.

Could have done without the commentary from the director at the beginning, but the production itself was good.

Once again, The Richmond Ballet inspires us in The Nutcracker! I never tire of dancing in the production or watching. The Nutcracker continues to be a family tradition.

The performance was beautiful and I love how some of the performers interacted with the audience. The little girl playing the black sheep stole the show.

  • Richmond Ballet rocks!

OK - I confess this was my first time at a ballet event (wife's idea). I was pleasantly surprised. Three separate pieces were presented, including a more traditional one (nice to watch), a very intense two-person one (Adam and Eve after being ejected from Eden) which was completely amazing, and a newly-commissioned piece that would probably benefit from a couple of viewings -- lots of motion with seven dancers, constant changes, and lots I didn't understand. Did a mention the great seats? We had front-row center (this was at the Studio location on Canal Street). Since the stage was floor-level rather than raised, the close seats were fantastic. Ones further back would give a different perspective, also good.

another magical night of dance at Studio 2 performance of Richmond Ballet. Consistently superb series. We just haven't seen a bad one yet. Dancers eager, hungry & fabulously graceful. lighting is itself another player in the performances, and we love the variety of music.

  • Richmond Ballet now even better

by jazzleomom on 11/12/10Studio Theatre - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

We were not able to attend any of last years ballets, so we were so impressed with the the way the dance troop hasgotten even better. Two of the ballets we saw the other night were very difficult and the way they were performed knoced our socks off!!! Richmond Studio Ballet was always good, but now it is really excellent.

Amazing! It was life altering... my seats were so close, I got to see every single movement clearly!

This was an amazing performance. The pieces were each so unique and emotional. Well worth seeing.
