The Nutcracker was a great first experience at the ballet for my 4 year old daughter!! We are still laughing and talking about it 5 days later!

  • The Nutcracker was wonderful.

by DAMOORE on 12/21/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

This was a fantastic ballet. It was the first time I had ever been to a ballet and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. And the orchestra was better than excellent. I would go again and take my whole family.

  • A children's classic

by dantinis on 12/21/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

This venue was perfect for this fanciful Christmas delight. The production is one I have wanted to see since I was a little girl, and 30 years later will be making this a new family tradition. We went to the 4:30 showing, and saw loads of children all dressed up, and thought what a nice way to introduce the next generation into a cultural classics of ballet and the orchestra.

  • Clara's Tea Party: Perfect End to The Nutcracker

by ollibear on 12/21/10Rhythm Hall at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The characters and dancers posed for pictures and signed autographs for the little ones. The party food was delicious (finger sandwiches and pastries). The piano player was wonderful, and many children walked over to dance to the Christmas music. It was a lovely ending to the day.

  • Best Nutcracker Ever!!

The Richmond Ballet always does an absolutely amazing job of every show they perform. This year the Nutcracker was EVEN BETTER than ever before and I've gone for the last 25 years. We are so lucky to have them in Richmond.

  • The Nutcracker was breathtaking

by happycamper5 on 12/21/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best performance of the Nutcracker I have ever seen. The orchestra sounded amazing. The stage and costumes were breathtaking. The souvenir selection was nice. Having multiple places to get refreshments made for shorter lines. The newly renovated Carpenter Theatre is very nicely done. Can't say enough good things about our experience. Made for a great Christmas memory!

  • Nutcracker was great

We went to see the Nutcracker at the Carpenter Theater and it was our first time taking our kids. They loved it, but when intermission was almost over, some woman spilled wine all over my husband as she was heading back to her seat. Why are there drinks allowed in the theater? There's no food allowed, but drinks are. Why take the chance of getting red wine or hot coffee spilled on your good clothes? If no food is allowed, maybe consider not allowing drinks as well - only in the lobby.

Very good performance. The Nutcracker is much better at the Carpenter Center than the Landmark Theater.

by MaryMMM on 12/16/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

This is a must-see event for anyone looking to make special holiday memories and in particular, parents seeking a timeless gift for their children. Ballet and music afficianados will appreciate the top-notch dance talent and choreography of the Richmond Ballet, one of the finest companies in the South, as well as the Richmond orchestra's flawless rendering of Tchaikovsky's magical score. The sets are enchanting, as is the Carpenter Theater itself. Together, all these elements make for a wonderful holiday event!

  • The Nutcracker brought generations together!

by SSQTCH on 12/16/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The generation gap seems to grow larger each day. Children can use computers in their sleep, parents can barely operate email and grandparents have difficulty turning a computer on. Finding common ground can be difficult. The Nutcracker provides a timeless vision that can be shared by all. The Richmond Ballet and Richmond Symphony performed flawlessly! The audience of children, parents and grandparents sat mesmerized as the classic holiday dream came to life. We left the theater with warm hearts, brilliant visions and a priceless, shared joy. The Nutcracker was a brilliant way to start celebrating Christmas.

  • THE NUTCRACKER WAS SPECTACULAR

by BALLET4ME on 12/15/10Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I GREW UP IN RICHMOND, VA AND NEVER WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THSI EVENT. I HAVE THREE GRANCHILDREN (BOYS) AND CONTEMPLATED BACK AND FORTH WHETHER TO TAKE THEM OR NOT. THEIR AGES ARE 9, AND THE TWINS ARE 7. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THEY WOULD LOVE IT AND THEN I WAS WORRIED THEY ARE BOYS AND THEY MAY BE BORED AND I WOULD HAVE TO CONTEND WITH 3 VERY DISSATISFIED LITTLE BOYS. WELL, WE ATTENDED THE EVENT AND THEY KNEW EVERYTING THAT WAS TAKING PALCE AND THEIR LITTLE EYES DID NOT LEAVE THE STAGE, WHAT A MAGNIFICENT SHOW I WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR WITH ALOT OF CHILDREN....GREAT, AMAZING,STUNNING PROPS

  • Nutcracker Ballet

While the Nutcracker performance is always enjoyable, I would have preferred the "original" interpretation. I missed the marching Nutcrackers, which would have been very enjoyable for our 6-year old grandson. Even with the changes, the performance was very good, and I am always impressed with the performers!

My family and I have been each year for the last five years. This was the BEST performance yet! We truly enjoyed every aspect this year.

This was one of the finest shows I've ever seen! I took my six year old daughter and she was mesmerized. Frankly so was I. I felt I was watching a magnificent Impressionistic Painting for 2 hours. The orchestra was perfect, the dancers were wonderful and the concessions were friendly. I have seen Broadway shows on Broadway and this holds up easily. It was the first time I had been in Carpenter since the renovation and it's just beautiful. So proud of Richmond and this place.
