About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

  • Way better than I expected!!!

Great show! Funny and entertaining. Not at all what I expected.

  • My face hurts from laughing

by Mich on 1/6/20Rating: 5 out of 5

This is one of the best shows on the strip (and we have seen them all). My whole family enjoyed it (kids ages 6-10) even my husband (who doesn’t know anything about Harry Potter) almost fell off his chair laughing.

  • Even better than expected!

by E. D. on 1/2/20The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

While the audience was urged "to have low expectations" this show was even better than I ever expected. We went because my 8-yo had just finished the book series and I thought she would enjoy it. My husband and I might have laughed more than she did, and I thought she was going to fall out of her chair she was laughing so hard. There were maybe 2 jokes that were more for the grown-ups, but this didn't seem to bother the kiddos. These guys really pulled it off. Somehow we ended up with VIP tickets (I have no idea how), and were the first in line for general admission (that never happens), so we did have seats front and center, but the theater is so small, I'm not sure there are any bad seats.

  • Most fun in Vegas!

    by C. R. on 12/28/19Rating: 5 out of 5

If you have a sense of humour run to this show. Bar none it is the most hilarious 70 minutes in Vegas. Great for the entire family. Nice that it has the matinee or evening show options. Highlight is the game of quidditch. Sit near the front for the best experience.

  • AMAZING!

    by Mia R on 12/28/19Rating: 5 out of 5

I love this show! It's so funny and always a hoot no matter the age you see it at. I love the quidditch game, and the singing. The actors always are into it and perform a fabulous show! I love the audience participation aspect as it always makes me feel very involved. The jokes are to die for and overall I recommend going to this show again and again as the plot never gets old.

Delightful two man play. Suitable for all ages. Great job of keeping audience's attention and involved. Fast replay of the seven Potter books. Very abbreviated version. Recommended.

Hard to give details, laughed the entire time. It was not what I was expecting but in the best possible way and I am so glad I went.

The venue is small and the show is interactive. These two guys have A LOT of energy and keep the laughs coming.

  • Slightly disappointed

by Brigitte on 12/10/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

The theatre experience was wonderful in itself. However, being a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, I was disappointed by the lack of actual events being brought to live from the series.

  • High Energy and Entertaining

by kcheathbar on 12/4/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! I had no idea what to expect but maybe a little bordem with just two people on stage, but was I totally wrong. These two actors had so much energy and enthusiasm it was unreal. Not one moment of lull in this play. And you don't have to know much about Harry Potter to enjoy it. It is hard to describe what they did or how they did it, but it was really enjoyable how they broke the 4th wall, they even had the audience involved in one part. I would highly suggest this play to anyone. It was family friendly but there were two moments/lines that were not suitable for kids but it would be over their head to understand it. if that makes sense. Kuddos to these two young men and their acting skills.

  • eh...

by katespadegirl on 12/4/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 2 out of 5

Was expecting much much more. The people around us seemed to really enjoy--they laughed a lot. I didn't think the experience was at all worth how expensive tickets were.

  • Must-See Show

by MRydings on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Potted Potter exceeded our expectations! The talent was AMAZING, the dialogue witty, and the comedic bits hilarious. We (me, my husband, and twin 12 yo daughters) laughed until we were in tears. Well worth the time and money.

  • Not what we expected

    by M on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 2 out of 5

Actors very slapstick. Did not get very creative with the actual stories. Show geared to 11 year olds who may or may not have read the books. Very overpriced and overhyped for such a meh show.

  • Poor Potted Potter

by Poor Potted Potter on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 1 out of 5

The Theater was beautiful, but concessions and services were minimal. The show Potted Potter wasn't what we were expecting at all. Disappointed that the show was so costly for what we received for our 7 family members who love the Harry Potter series.

  • Fun and Engaging

by Jimbo on 12/3/19Rating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I went to Potted Potter after having read a little bit about what to expect. We thoroughly enjoyed the show. The acting was excellent and the audience participation was hilarious. We would highly recommend it. I guess those reviewer‘s who felt like it was low budget or to kiddish must not have looked it up before they went. We thought the two actors did an excellent job and the pace was great.

  • Marvelously Magical!

by LUMOSS on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Potted Potter was hilarious! What other show can you dress up in robes, bring a wand, and not get funny looks?! My sister and I had a magical time. We loved all of the nods to other major franchises, as well as the improv feel to the scripted show! We really enjoyed getting to be a part of the show as Quidditch fans. The dragon in the first task was well worth the wait! 5/5 stars would recommend to all of my Potterhead friends!

  • Lackluster low budget performance

by GQsir on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

I went in with high expectations from a broadway performance on tour and walked out feeling cheated for the money I had paid to see it. I guess when I saw Lucky Seat selling tickets for half the cost of what I paid, and then walking into a half-empty theater I should have lowered my expectations.

  • LOVED It

by MKS on 12/3/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 2nd time I've seen Potted Potter & it did NOT disappoint. If you're still struggling to understand everything that happens in the Harry Potter world, this is a fun, hilarious, easy way to understand what's going on!! A MUST SEE!!

  • Kiddish and Ticket Cost Too Much for this Production

by Kayo on 12/2/19Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

Our group was comprised of three, 30ish and one, 60ish avid Harry Potter fans. Although we had fun, the price of the tickets for this event did not balance well with what was presented. We felt the production was more "kiddish" than expected and resembled more of two "boys" just acting silly. It was a rare night out for all four of us together and we had fun and did laugh. However, we all felt the price of the tickets did not warrant the quality of the production.

  • Fantastic!

Funny and smart! Great singing, acting and comedic timing! Engaged the audience throughout the show! My teens loved it and were laughing the whole time! Wildly entertaining for the whole family!
