About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

  • Okay but not worth $75

by LostGeekGirl on 1/1/23Rating: 2 out of 5

It’s funny entertainment but not hilarious. I was expecting more given the reviews, but I just don’t think it’s worth the money. It’s actually pretty cheesy with cheap props and 2 actors.

  • FUN show for Potter nerds of all ages!

by Mrs Clark on 12/31/22Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Lots of kids in the audience, but at nearly 70 we certainly weren't the oldest! Clever writing and performing; my only gripe was that on occasion, the sound effects or music obscured the dialogue, and especially the lyrics to the I Will Survive song. And we were sitting in the 12th row of the lower section! A must-see for all Harry Potter fans.

  • Magical

Potted Potter is a very funny show; it's hilarious, and simply brilliant. You don't have to be a Potter fan to enjoy it!

  • Silly, high energy

by Smd on 12/31/22Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

Not so much a recap of the books but improv, slapstick, and references to pop culture. Very British style comedy. I’m glad I saw it, I would not see it again.

  • The show was funny but not worth the money

by Kannan Muthiah on 12/22/22The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

The show was hilarious. The kids loved it. Those who have not read the books and not seen the movies also are able to enjoy the show. Those who have read/seen it, are able to enjoy even more. With just two actors and not much props, the show is not worth more than $20-30 though!

  • Waste of time

by Blake on 12/13/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

I don’t usually leave bad reviews and can usually find something positive but this was the exception. In short it wasn’t funny; not even a little funny. I love goofy humor and slap-stick but this was so over the top with such horrendous delivery that I’m not sure I ever cracked a smile. There are far better shows in Vegas that are a better use of your time. Don’t bother.

  • All Harry Potter episodes -in one short evening.

by Theatre Geek on 12/11/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

This two person interactive theatre event is charming, silly, animated and non thought provoking. Clearly a off off Broadway production that entertains and surprisingly works. The two cast members work throughout the evening entertaining and just being silly while attempting to relay the contents of J K Rowling's "Harry Potter" books. All the while conveying the Harry Potter stories with limited props, accents and warp speed dialogue. An exhausting endeavor for two talented performers. Their work is fresh, fun and convey all of the attributes of a fun night in the theatre. They succeed on many levels and you leave the theatre with a sense of wizardly charm being told in an unconventional way.

A hilarious take on the Harry Potter series. Had me laughing from beginning to end. An amazing job paying tribute to our boy, Harry, and his adventures with a twist. I highly recommend seeing this show.

I laughed till I cried! I was skeptical when it started, it looked like it was going to be really cheesy, but those two nailed it!

I was late to the show so I missed the first three books but the remaining four were parodied to a T and the players performed flawlessly! I truly enjoyed it and it was worth every penny!

  • So much fun!

My 9 yr old and I went as a mommy and son date. We had a fantastic time! This was relatable to everyone who is a Harry Potter fan. The jokes were on all levels from Adult references to plain ole kid nose picking jokes! Very entertaining and engaging. These gentlemen are amazing at their craft and I would watch it a million times over!

My daughter and I caught this show while in Vegas and it did not disappoint! We both had tears from laughter. The theatre was quaint and seating was good. Not a bad seat anywhere. The actors were amazing! I would see it again!

  • It was okay

by Lisa on 10/19/22The Magic Attic at Bally's Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

It was disappointing for the price of tickets. I think I would recommend skipping this, and going to a cirque show instead. A lot of the banter and comedy was lost on me. I really was disappointed

Lots of humor and audience participation. Captured the essence of Harry Potter books in quick little skits.

  • Brilliant!

Went to see this while we were in Vegas as we hadn’t pre-booked any of the big music shows and absolutely loved it. The guys do a brilliant job and a lot of parts were “laugh out loud” funny. The audience participation was fun without being awkward and it was a really unique experience.
