About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

  • Potted Potter is Hysterical

by PhilisAnn on 1/4/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

In less than an hour and a half, two brilliantly funny actors completely pulled the audience into their crazy recap of all 7 Harry Potter books. From water gags, to audience participation Quiddich, to the one lone voice of a Hufflepuff audience member, Scott & Brendan had us rolling in the aisles. And when Brendan managed to break Scott into laughter, it was all the better! In addition to knowing their Potter, the actors snuck in a few well-placed local and timely digs at the real world. Unfortunately, my tickets were for the last show of the local run, or I would have gone back again!

by clo on 1/4/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

We took our 7 and 11 year old grandsons and none of us have ever laughed or giggled as much as we did. And it seemed the entire audience felt the same. The venue was perfect also. Just the right size.

  • Very enjoyable evening!!

    by Cindy R on 1/3/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Potter fans will love this, but others may enjoy it as well. They did a good job of including current info into their dialogue. The show was really funny!

  • Almost Peed My Pants

by Andie on 1/3/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I laughed so hard I almost choked. BTW, the teacher jokes were NOT funny to teachers.

  • Waste of Money

by Disappointed and Disgusted on 1/3/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 1 out of 5

This show was geared to 12-year old (or younger) boys. Allegedly Olivier award-nominated, I expected something witty and intelligent, like the books themselves.

  • Not really what I thought

by Potter Fan on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

It was funny at times. It’s more of a comedy show I would say, they touch on the books but as an HP fan I really thought it would have more detail and less crowd involvement. It may be for some but not me

  • For every Harry Potter fan

    by A. Baker on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was an excellent show! Every fan of the wizarding world of HP should see this. The humor is terrific and is perfect for all ages.

  • Good for big Potter fans

by Mother and Daughter on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

My 13 year daughter loved it. She’s a big fan and has read the series multiple times. As a parent fan, I’ve read them too and thought the show was just okay. I enjoyed how high energy the duo kept things and the physical comedy. The writing was juvenile but probably expected for the audience. It seemed that the duo were having fun on stage so it felt fun for all.

  • Spectacularly Funny!

by Jweishaar on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Great show for all ages! The perfect combo of comedy, interaction and even some song and dance in there. 5 stars!

  • Funny but overpriced

by Feather on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

My ten year old and I thought there were some very funny parts, super cheesy type of humor that had us giggling, but for the price we paid, good grief…it was more of a $30-$40 show, not $78. A bit disappointing unfortunately.

  • So underwhelming; I had to apologize to my guests

by Annie on 1/2/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 1 out of 5

Seriously third grade humor, should have been described as children’s theater

  • Awesome! A must see for Potter fans.

by Modiggity on 1/1/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are genius. I went in with zero expectations and it blew my mind. Truly funny and engaging.

  • Perfect for Potter and fantasy nerds
