Talk about magic!
British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.
Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.
One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).
Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

I thought it would be like Monty Python type of humor which I don’t really get. Luckily, it was absolutely hilarious, we were laughing constantly at all the different types of humor the two creators brought into the show. It was astounding how good the show was. I want to see it again. Don’t miss this show!
This show was far less clever and more childish than I expected. More time was spent on peripheral conversations than on the HP content. The humor was peurile at best, and yet too often raunchy to the point of being wildly inappropriate in a theatre full of children. Save your money to see a show with more thought behind it.
It was ok and funny in parts but super surface level comedy that almost all didn’t really pertain to Harry Potter in honesty you really could have called this anything with the same jokes and would have got the same result, it really didn’t hit as a Harry Potter comedy it was more of give it a Harry Potter frame then fill it with super surface level jokes which mostly didn’t pertain with Harry Potter and also super inaccuracies with the stories. YOU REALLY DONT NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HARRY POTTER CAUSE IT DIDNT MATTER
I have told whoever k can about it. I haven’t laughed like that in a long time. Missing you GF and I had a blast. The creativity of those two is amazing. Loved it.
What a fun evening!! Will definitely go again when they come through town and probably spend a little more to be closer to the action!
Seriously one of the funniest things I have EVER seen! I was laughing from the moment they walked on stage and for an additional 10 minutes after! I wish I could see this over and over again! For just a 2 man act, they really did a good job of keeping everyone engaged!
I was a little nervous when the show started that it would be a bust. But the show ends up being really funny and enjoyable.
Loved every bit of this act! The interaction between these two shows a great connection that carried into the show - they seemed to be poking fun at each other while managing a fast-paced and detailed act. Lots of variety between their interactions, use of hilarious props, cool A/V add-ins and great audience participation! They picked a kid from the audience who almost stole the show and they interacted with that great boy and had no trouble crediting him for the added laughs. At times couldn’t even tell if quips were part of act or ad lib, and was even funnier the one “real” moment of a bonked head on a prop where he turned to the audience laughing saying “that was real!” I’ve seen a lot of comedy shows and loved every moment of this show-will have to see again!
We were up in the balcony and could hardly hear what was being said from the stage. Almost everyone around me was saying the same thing. “What did they say” was all I could hear from the people around me. I’m sure it was a funny show, but only hearing half of the jokes made it a complete waste. It was too bad, we were really looking forward to this show and the actors looked to be doing a good job.
Excellent show for all ages. Would recommend it for everyone. Beautiful Theater. Loved the crowd interaction!
I wouldn't have changed one thing about this show except I didn't want it to end! The actors play off the audience and each other in a way that made everyone feel like part of the show. I would recommend any and every Harry Potter fan from here to across the sea to attend this show at least once. Thanks for reminding us of the magic guys!
We loved this show! It was myself, my husband and our 15 year old and we all enjoyed it. The only complaint my husband had was that he wished it was longer because he liked it so much.
I am not an expert in the Harry Potter universe, but I laughed throughout the entire show. My family, who are experts, enjoyed it even more. I liked that the show wasn’t too long and it moved quickly.
My fiancee is a huge HP fan so I gifted her tickets to this for Xmas. She loved it and was in tears from laughing at times. I found it comical, but not always my 'cup of tea'. There were two things I wish had been done differently from a production standpoint though: 1. When there was background music for some scenes, it was very tough to hear the actors microphones up in the balcony. Adjusting the music down a bit would help in the future. 2. The balcony has a left, center, and right side. The left and right were PACKED with people. But the center was legit 100% empty. It was almost like they had donated tickets to an organization that didn't give them to anyone. It would've been nice to allow the balcony to spread out when that happened. Overall: For someone who's a HP fan, this is a good show to see. Clean comedy for kids and families as well.
This was two guys having fun up on a stage under the guise of entertainment.
This show was overly corny and empty of laughter. The only people who were laughing were in the front row (the comedians interacted w them) and two children. Avoid like the forbidden forest
This was an excellent comedy. We are still grinning thinking about it. Yes, it helps to have read and/or watched all of the Harry Potter books to get the full effect but not completely necessary. I would watch this again. Small stage with up close and interaction with the audience.
Our first theater visit since before the pandemic was fun. We were delayed getting to our seats due to the metal detectors outside and parking a ½ mile away. Not being familiar with this part of town didn’t help. The show was packed with enthusiastic people and we were delighted with the story telling, somewhat surprised with how low budget the stage set was based on paying around $100 for tickets, but enjoyed the show.
We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but a two-man show wasn’t it. It was funny, we had a good time. The tickets were a bit expensive, but not sure if we paid after-market prices.
