About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

I was nervous we would not enjoy this show. The 2 actors were very engaging and had us laughing the entire 70 minutes. Even if you are not a huge potter fan, you will enjoy this show! Just go, you will not be disappointed.

  • Monday March 13th show

by Big Potter Fans on 3/16/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

Out of respect for the amount of effort it takes to put on a show, I will rely on this old maxim: “If you have nothing nice to say, then just say nothing.

  • Hilarious 7 book jaunt!

by SoCalCookie on 3/11/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent, low thrills (on purpose) production. Mile a minute telling of all 7 Potter books with great comedy throughout. Magic Attic is a quaint spot, worth the visit, a blast for all ages!

  • The name is deceiving - Buy the tickets!

by Pam S on 3/7/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I booked this not sure if we would enjoy it - the name made us a little nervous if it was for us. It was THE BEST. For anyone only even slightly aware of who Harry Potter is, you will enjoy this show. If you know all the details of Harry Potter, you’ll love it even more. And it’s family-friendly.

Show was hilarious, actors interaction with each other as well as the crowd was amazing. You could tell they were having a great time putting on an awesome show and really made it fun for everybody. The soaring dragon was the best!

  • Loved it!

by MG on 3/1/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

It was funny and relevant (to my 8 y/o). Though we thought it smart and hilarious, we did have a hard time hearing some of the lines.

  • Not as expected, but still fun

by Becca on 2/28/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

This show was not at all what me or my family I attended with thought it would be. The show was still fun, but felt very amateur. We did really enjoy the moments of true improv.

  • Fantastic

by Elliott on 2/27/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

We went to this event not knowing what to expect at all. It was so much fun. It was hilarious and spontaneous and very entertaining. It had us laughing out loud. It was a great experience.

  • Family friendly

by Graff on 2/27/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

It was a fun show but not what I expected. It was more childish than witty. I got tickets hoping to see a ‘Tom Reed’ type performance like years ago in fringe festival.

  • Really, really bad

by LAS on 2/27/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 1 out of 5

I actually wanted to see someone really try to tell the stories of all seven books in a fun and clever way. That was not even attempted here. No seriously, they don't even marginally attempt to do that. What they do instead isn't even a little bit clever or even just dumb funny. Bad writing and poor delivery and very low budget. It was so phony it made it impossible to suspend disbelief for even a few minutes. I was embarrassed for them until I remembered what I paid for the tickets. Such a scam.

  • Superb!

by Jeremy Sanders on 2/24/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought we were going to a telling of the story. What we experienced was an absolutely hilarious re-imagining of the classic tale. Scott and Joe are both fantastic. I will recommend this show to anyone who is even remotely interested in Harry Potter.

  • Amazing event

by Swalsh on 2/22/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I took my 12 and 14 year olds and we all had a blast. Very interactive and hilarious. Highly recommend.

  • Great Show, Entertaining, Overpriced, Short in Duration

by Tony on 2/22/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Great Show, Entertaining, Overpriced, Short in Duration It seemed like it could have been (or should have been) longer. For the short show, the tickets definitely seemed overpriced. The content that was there was Amazing. Adults and kids all loved it. I would have liked more detail and a lengthier show.

  • Hilarious!

by Ash on 2/22/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This duo was absolutely funny, charismatic, and put on a fantastic show. Easily enjoyable for kids and adults alike! I was constantly laughing.

  • Not what we expected

    by Kim D on 2/22/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5

This event is basically 2 guys on stage making jokes about Harry Potter and sort of goofing around. I was expecting something completely different. The description said they acted out all 7 books- there was no real acting of anything. They read a few sentences and made jokes. We had 2 adults and kids (aged 8, 10, 14 and 18). There were a handful of times we laughed. But overall- kind of disappointing. Glad I didn't pay for the expensive tickets.

  • Cute but corny

by HotMama on 2/21/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

The show was cute and slightly entertaining. Mostly corny jokes with some references to HP. Maybe get a little drunk before you go to make it more enjoyable.

  • Ummm???

    by Minskin55084 on 2/21/23Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

So will you arrived at the Pantages Theater it was beautiful and clean. We sat up in the upper balcony and the chairs were so close together that my knees were pushed into the chair in front of me. The performers that were on stage were great however for over $80 per ticket I was expecting more. The two guys were absolutely adorable and funny I just think that the price was a little obnoxious for what it was

  • Surprisingly great

by Amy on 2/19/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Wasn’t really sure what to expect with only 2 actors, but they made it work. So enjoyable. Loved the show. The only thing that was a little awkward was after the show we were walking through the casino and one of the actors walked quickly around us. I said something like Good Show! He totally ignored me! Rudeness much?!? But that’s not apart of the show and didn’t let it ruin my overall enjoyment of the show.
