About

Talk about magic!

British comedy actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have distilled all 4,200 pages of J. K. Rowling's seven Harry Potter novels into one brilliantly hilarious 70-minute show. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience is a lovably loopy two-person performance in which a Potter know-it-all teams up with a rebellious Harry newbie to create a show about -- you guessed it -- Harry Potter.

Clarkson and Turner conceived the show in 2005 as a five-minute sidewalk synopsis to amuse customers queued up for Rowling's sixth Harry novel. They expanded it to an hour the following year and opened at Edinburgh's Zoo Southside. European tours ensued, and in 2012 Potted Potter was nominated for two Olivier Awards, the highest honor in British theater. The show made its off-Broadway debut the same year and has since toured all over the United States and the world. After opening in 2018, the family-friendly Las Vegas production won Best of Last Vegas Awards for Best New Production and Best Value Show.

One actor channels a bookish Harry in Potted Potter while another plays every other character -- including Ron and Hermione, Draco Malfoy, Snape, the Weasleys, Sirius Black, Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore and, of course, He Who Must Not Be Named -- with wild abandon. Loads of wigs and other goofy props are employed in a nonstop laugh fest that also features a fire-breathing dragon, countless costume changes, brilliant songs, a plethora of props and even a Quidditch match encouraging audience participation (but no brooms, alas).

Accessible to Potter freaks and newbies alike, Potted Potter blends slapstick in the Laurel & Hardy vaudeville tradition with the wildly witty dialogue associated with Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Potting" is a British term for "the art of summarizing something into a digestible form," and, like all the best parodies, Clarkson and Turner's Harry experience is both splendid spoof and heartfelt homage.

  • Very funny

Creative, funny, and just really well-done! The length was perfect, the amount of audience interaction was perfect, and the venue was comfortable. I recommend this show to any reader of the Harry Potter books (or folks who have only seen the movies). Made me (and the friends I went with) want to re-read the books! Great show!

  • Hilarious show!

This show was in a small, intimate venue with lots of audience participation. It helps if you know the story lines of the book series, but even if you don’t, the two actors will keep you laughing and entertained! We had a great time!

by Amy Marie on 8/8/23Rating: 4 out of 5

I read the books over 20 years ago but thoroughly enjoyed the show. Actually wish there was a little more Harry Potter & a little less "filler". But it was still a great trip down memory lane!

It wasn't like anything I had expected. Not even sure what I had expected........maybe a travelogue through the Potter books. Once I let go of this fantasy, I was along for the ride and what a ride it was! These guys certainly needed guts and talent and camaraderie to pull off comedy such as this. It takes special talent to keep adults and children entertained at the same time. It was fun; farcical; filled with laughs. There were many "eggs" embedded in their script if you are able to catch them. These elements elevated their routine to another level engaging adults more deeply. Be be prepared to let your inner child out to play and I am sure you will enjoy this as much as I did.

  • Enjoyable Satire on the Potter Franchise

by New Fever Era on 5/3/23Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

While not achieving the depth of shows such as Hamilton (currently also playing in Indianapolis), Potted Potter was a fun, energetic (and appropriately brief) spin on the franchise, with homage to other well-known shows sprinkled among the jokes. There were even some good-natured pokes at American culture mixed in with the decidedly British humor. It reminded me of Mama Mia, which I had ironically seen next door at Clewes Hall, another enjoyable show that lacks depth and meaning. I recommend Potted Potter to fans of Harry Potter of all ages.

  • Fantastic

by Ron on 4/23/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great, witty and humorous, actors superior we had a great time. I would suggest staggering the seating or raising each row so everyone can see. We unfortunately were blocked for parts by the show by the group sitting in front of us.

  • Highlight of our trip!

by CB on 4/7/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Our 9 year old HP fan loved it. We also did the Highroller and saw Love and this was her favorite part of the trip.

  • Perfectly silly and delightful

by Melissa on 3/26/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Look- you are going to read a bunch of reviews about the bad props, lame jokes and stretched acting. If you don't love silliness, puns, bad metaphors, and more silliness then maybe this show isn't for you. BUT If you aren't boring and you like to just laugh at classic comedy of errors, then I think you'll like this. My family are all BIG HP fans and we picked this show so we could giggle at some silliness, not take ourselves too seriously and just have some low key fun. This is a casual comedy filled with goofiness and exaggeration. The two actors are clearly very talented and this set up reminds me of an excellent "readers theater" style with minimal set and props. If you've seen other styles of abridged comedy then this will feel familiar. We all laughed throughout the whole performance and I think you will too. As long as you aren't lame and boring.

  • Great performance

  • Silly, Goofy, FUN

by Tug on 3/24/23The Magic Attic at Horseshoe Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

A brilliant romp through the Potter canon, with Quidditch! The theater is intimate, and that adds to the experience. Having children in the audience was a definite plus. We plan to return as long as it keeps running.
