PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT IN CONCERT:
Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook carries on the legacy of those legendary bands in 2014 with the Light, thrilling fans with end-to-end performances of seminal albums from their collective discography. Whether tearing through New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies or ruminating on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, Hook and the Light are never short on energy, sating fans with epic three hour sets of classics like "Age of Consent" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The band impressed even the staunchest New Order loyalists on tour in 2013, building excitement for another round of North American dates in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Manchester, England, Peter Hook formed Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in the late '70s after the two were inspired by the anyone-can-do-it ethos of a Sex Pistols concert they attended. After several epochal post-punk releases, frontman Ian Singer committed suicide, leaving the rest of the band to press on as New Order. With former guitarist/keyboardist Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. In 2010, Hook put together the Light, continuing to thrill fans with end-to-end performances of classic albums from the Joy Division/New Order discography.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
" Great night out for Joy Division and New Order fans -- Peter Hook is having a lot of fun and so is the crowd."
"Peter Hook is the man!! He still has not slowed down at his age, three hour show and it was amazing!"
"... I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power, Corruption and Lies and Movement, but the big surprise came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division, it was so awesome!"

Love will tear us apart….is my favorite song in the world, I have it tattooed on my chest….it was amazing to finally hear it live ….
Second time seeing Hooky! If you can’t see New Order then to pass on seeing Peter Hook live. Hook doing New Order is good but when dives into Joy Division he takes it up a level!! Very Rock n Roll attitude while performing JD, loved it!
The promised joy division and they delivered. Seeing those iconic songs brought to life was a great experience. Also, the opening band was also remarkably good. Check out El Ten Eleven, too.
Peter Hook continues Ian’s legacy in powerful form. Haven’t been to a rock show that has immersed me so much in a long time. The Light sound better than ever. Thankful The Paradise still sands.
OMG what a performance by Hooky. The man gives his heart and soul to his audience. He keeps the spirit of Joy Division very much alive.
I'm a contemporary of Hook so it was great to see so many young people at the show. Great performance of timeless music. Short New Order set bracketed by "Your Silent Face" and "True Faith". JD albums were great though I would give the "Closer" set the edge. There are a couple of songs on "Unknown Pleasures" that I would not expect anyone to do justice to given the original performances by Ian Curtis but there's no shame in trying. Venue was great as usual.
A wonderful mix of New Order and Joy Division, all executed with loads of skill and passion. It also clear that Mr. Hook and the band are enjoying themselves, which is infectious
I turned 13 years old in 1980, the year ‘Closer’ by Joy Division was released. It has always been an integral part of Gen-X music culture. I was never a big fan of JD, but had a few favorites, like “She’s Lost Control “ and “Atmosphere.” And I’ve never liked “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” their most popular, influential, and enduring song. Peter Hook’s ‘Celebration of Joy Division,’ changed everything. I heard each song as if it was the first time, and I felt myself becoming the Joy Division fan I never have been. I loved every song more than I had before, except the aforementioned ’Love…’ Although still not great, I appreciate it more now that I’ve heard 100s of fans in the audience singing the song as if it was their very own. It was beautiful to see and hear. So 1,000,000 thanks to Peter Hook and the band for revivifying the Joy Division songbook in such a way as to lead an aging Gen-Xer, who grew up with their music, to feel more warmly toward them than I thought possible. I think it’s a clear testament to the love of the band for the songs, to Peter’s profound understanding of the groundbreaking music he helped create, and the awesome quality of the songs and music themselves. I’m thrilled to have been a part of the celebration and go forth now with Joy Division not in my pocket, but in my heart and soul.
Can’t ever go wrong with a 2 1/2 hour set of Hooky!
Peter Hook & the Light were fantastic! Best live show I've seen in ages. It was amazing to hear Closer live. And of course Uknown Pleasures... plus a few New Order hits.
Having been a diehard New Order fan for years I finally got to see Peter Hook & the Light at the gorgeous Wiltern Theatre. Sitting in the balcony is probably the best place to sit in the theatre because the stage is so large you can see perfectly anywhere there. The sound quality was excellent. PH & the Light are essentially a cover band that sounds better than the real thing now. The album Technique played in its entirety sounded perfect. The band brought immense energy, especially during the encore set. The opening band Night Dreamer was very good and I’ll keep an eye out for them. We were very happy to have caught them. The staff on hand was polite and efficient. A great night and all for $20!!
Peter Hook’s rendition of JD NO tracks are truer to the original classics than New Orders recent shows. Hard to admit. Its the closest you would get to a Joy Division concert whenever they play.
He's a frickin machine. Started promptly on time.. and chugged right on through.. hit after hit. I saw him last year.. and I got tickets in Feb of this year for a Nov show as soon as he announced. Technique defined my early 20's .. I was in nostalgia nirvana. Don't miss him. And DON'T be late!
What a great concert! The Neptune is a fabulous concert venue, and the price for these tickets were a bargain for what a great show!
Peter Hook & The Light did an amazing job. I had a show the next night and was worried it wouldn't measure up - PH&TL set the bar pretty high. I have seen hundreds & hundreds of shows and this one is in the top tier!
better each time (3rd for me), never miss Hooky and the light
I am sure that you will have a better time going to see Peter Hook and his band play hits from New Order/Joy Division than you would for New Order and their crazy expensive shows. Hooky is fantastic and really appreciates the fans! His band, The Light, is as tight as can be and lovely people. Go see this show!
No opening act, just Peter hook in the lights, (amazing concert) can't wait to go again.
Sat an listened to every song ever made for over 2 hours before he finally got to some of his top songs. Lost patience and walked out before he finally got to that point (first time ever walking about if a show). Would have appreciated mixing them up a little so to keep everyone happy.. not oldest song first, all the best at the very end.
