About

PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT IN CONCERT:

Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook carries on the legacy of those legendary bands in 2014 with the Light, thrilling fans with end-to-end performances of seminal albums from their collective discography. Whether tearing through New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies or ruminating on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures,  Hook and the Light are never short on energy, sating fans with epic three hour sets of classics like "Age of Consent" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The band impressed even the staunchest New Order loyalists on tour in 2013, building excitement for another round of North American dates in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Manchester, England, Peter Hook formed Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in the late '70s after the two were inspired by the anyone-can-do-it ethos of a Sex Pistols concert they attended. After several epochal post-punk releases, frontman Ian Singer committed suicide, leaving the rest of the band to press on as New Order. With former guitarist/keyboardist Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. In 2010, Hook put together the Light, continuing to thrill fans with end-to-end performances of classic albums from the Joy Division/New Order discography.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Great night out for Joy Division and New Order fans -- Peter Hook is having a lot of fun and so is the crowd."

"Peter Hook is the man!! He still has not slowed down at his age, three hour show and it was amazing!"

"... I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power, Corruption and Lies and Movement, but the big surprise came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division, it was so awesome!"

  • Hook & Co bring a spectacular show to NYC

by Tigerbabysob on 9/16/13Webster Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely fantastic show... Hearing the first two New Order albums, "Movement" and "Power, Corruption & Lies" in their entirety was pretty special. Closing With "Temptation", "Blue Monday" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was great... But a surprise opening set of Joy Division? Absolutely stellar. The band is powerful and tight. Hook's son doe a great job on bass, a killer guitarist and drummer along with keys give a serious energy boost to the Joy Division and New Order sets. I personally prefer Hooks vocals on all of the New Order songs. He has a presence and power that aren't Bernard Sumner's strong suit especially live. I only hope Hook returns to New York soon.

Hooky is still as good as ever. And the crowd was into every song played. The bonus was the Joy Division songs played to start the night.

  • Awesome

Incredible show. Hooky is still a rock star with great stage presence. Good sound & lights except for a critical tech failure near the end, which was appeased by two great Joy Division songs.

What can you say about Hooky? No backup band required as there no time for one with the marathon set list the band went through. For those of us that never had the pleasure of being able to see JD or NO what he is doing is pretty special. They sound great and I hope he returns again soon as I will definitely be there.
