About

PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT IN CONCERT:

Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook carries on the legacy of those legendary bands in 2014 with the Light, thrilling fans with end-to-end performances of seminal albums from their collective discography. Whether tearing through New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies or ruminating on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures,  Hook and the Light are never short on energy, sating fans with epic three hour sets of classics like "Age of Consent" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The band impressed even the staunchest New Order loyalists on tour in 2013, building excitement for another round of North American dates in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Manchester, England, Peter Hook formed Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in the late '70s after the two were inspired by the anyone-can-do-it ethos of a Sex Pistols concert they attended. After several epochal post-punk releases, frontman Ian Singer committed suicide, leaving the rest of the band to press on as New Order. With former guitarist/keyboardist Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. In 2010, Hook put together the Light, continuing to thrill fans with end-to-end performances of classic albums from the Joy Division/New Order discography.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Great night out for Joy Division and New Order fans -- Peter Hook is having a lot of fun and so is the crowd."

"Peter Hook is the man!! He still has not slowed down at his age, three hour show and it was amazing!"

"... I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power, Corruption and Lies and Movement, but the big surprise came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division, it was so awesome!"

by Tankgirrl on 9/17/24House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The house of blues is a great venue to go see a live event, and Peter Hook was amazing live! The crowd was good, good drinks and food, all in all a great experience !

  • Immersive experience!

by LLeen on 9/16/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

like I've attended two concerts: the one is to dance to my favs New Order, the other is to dream come true (to attend the original Joy Division concert, which I couldn't due to young age)! Great show!

  • Great show but to crowded once again!!

If you can 't raise your arms or grab a beer without losing your spot on the floor, then this is no fun.

  • Peter Hook was fantastic!

by Michael L on 9/16/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

I got this ticket last minute since I didn't have anything to do Friday and had just gotten paid. I was hesitant to see the show without the full band, but Peter really put on a great show. All the musicians were great, including his second bassist and "bernie"guitar/vocalist. He did all the hits from JD and NO. He threw in quite a few songs I didn't know, but I was interested to hear what he had to offer so I still listened. Also had a break in the middle, which was nice.

  • Sad. Hook Mailed It In

by Pete W on 9/6/24Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Venue was great! Looking forward to some great bass playing. Hook mostly sung while holding his guitar as a prop. When he wasn’t singing, he was swaying around with it. Many songs he didn’t play a note. Backup bass player did most of the work. A ton of canned music, including bass riffs he should have been playing. Totally disappointing experience. I guess I should’ve expected it from a 40+ year old band.

  • Bad sound for Hookies track act,

by Dougie on 9/6/24Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The sound at the Paradise may be worse than ever, and I have been going there for over 40 years. Very muddy at this oversold show. Hook played an outstanding setlist, but leaned heavily on pre recorded tracks. This was not hidden. The drummer left the stage for much of the show. During Blue Monday, I think they just played the record and sang along a bit. That all said, He is Peter Hook and he does have a fantastic catalogue! He should rejoin New Order and they should do a residency at The Sphere!

  • Peter Hook & Tge Light

Great venue, great staff, and amazing show (as always) 🤘

  • Tour de force

by Jim on 9/4/249:30 CLUB - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Peter Hook is 68, and outperforms most musicians half his age. With a catalog that would take days to listen to, his most difficult task is figuring out the 2 1/2 hour setlist each night. The crowd was stoked, the band was strong, and Hooky delivered.

  • Hooked me Line and Sinker!

by Brian on 9/4/249:30 CLUB - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

A motivating show by a true musical hero and groundbreaker. Both albums played with enthusiasm! Thanks for the memories!

  • Great show

    by Mike H on 9/4/249:30 CLUB - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Peter Hook & The Light put on a great show. They played both Substance albums in full, plus a few other Joy Division and New Order tunes.

by Wainair on 9/3/24History - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Peter Hook and the Light were awesome through both sets! It was like a Time Machine! History was great too. A great club to see a band! The Sound and service was perfect!

  • Great show - but shine some light on the rest of the band!

by Gillybuns on 9/3/24History - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the show- I have always loved New Order but missed out on Joy Division when I was young so not as familiar (or in love) with JD… BUT it was great to bounce around to NO for the first half and then switch gears and get absorbed in the JD set. You really get a chance to see how foundational and influential the sound of JD was/is. I deducted one star because I found at times that the other band members (and their instruments) were literally in the shadows. Even when the drummer was going off and the keyboards were in full flight … and Peter Hook wasn’t singing or playing the bass… all the spotlights were still on him and you couldn’t really see the others playing in the shadows. Is it “Peter Hook and the Light” or “Peter Hook In the Light”?? 😉

  • A fantastic night 36 years in the making (for me)

by Rayman on 9/24/22House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

New Order at the Fox Theater in Detroit on November 22, 1986 was the worst concert I'd ever attended. Among the many awful things that night - Peter Hook continually walking up to the amp to cause a screeching feedback throughout the venue. Peter Hook and the Light At HOB in Houston on September 2, 2022 was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was everything I could have dreamed of - raw punk energy, a mesmerized audience, a band fully invested in making a great experience for the audience, familiar songs with an enhanced live feel, and my best music buddy (my daughter) loving it all next to me the whole time.

  • Awesome

by Jon on 9/23/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the most fun concerts I've been to in years. Awesome music, played spot on, tool me back to my college days, many years ago. So glad I went, will definitely go to another show if they come back to SD

  • Hooky 22

It was a good show. Only thing is at times wish sound was better for an outdoor venue.

  • Peter Hook and the Light: A Review

by Chris on 9/10/22House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

There are several Rock and Roll acts that cross international boundaries and traverse time and still draw emotion from people. Queen, Journey, Joy Division, etc. The trick in performing these songs that move people is to keep that feeling alive that they felt listening to the album, or going to the live show years ago. Joy Division as a live show is arguably a tough one to pull off, even with a founding member present, as the only really and truly irreplaceable member is dead. Also, one could fall into the pitfall of parody, or worse yet turn each show into a death cult shrine. All of this was going through my mind the week before going to the Peter Hook and the Light show at the House of Blues in Dallas. Flash forward to the show. Hooky came onstage and opened with Elegia, playing the bass while sitting on a stool. "He looks tired" my wife said. And he did. There followed a brief New Order set. Folks around me sang to the lyrics, and the energy began to ramp up. After a brief intermission, I heard Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk begin to play. Ian Curtis's chosen track to warm up the audience. At that moment, I realized the genius of what Hooky had done. It was as if Joy Division were on tour, about to take the stage and play all of Unknown Pleasures and Closer. My palms began to sweat. Hooky an the light come out and lead into Disorder. Pandemonium! Drums, bassline and I hear my wife shout: "Ohhh Wow"! Another Joy Division fan was born right then and there. Energy surged upwards, Hooky looking less tired now. Into Day of the Lords. Heaviest and darkest rock and roll song ever written. Hands down. He was fighting with pure evil, and just wrote it out and sang it. He meant every word. Lived what he wrote and didn't survive. His lyrics were not a show. But turned into a concert, there is a power there that was like a runaway power turbine in a nuclear plant, headed for meltdown. There was a point during "She's lost control" that Hooky was standing across the stage from the mic and let out a scream. You cold hear him un-amplified over the song. He was no longer tired. Hooky was clearly at the controls of the nuke plant and had planned the melt down all along. Admittedly I am not a huge fan of Closer. However, performed live gave it a different feel, much like the Amsterdam Paridiso versions of the songs but with Hooky at the Mic. The big surprise for me was the end of Closer, 24 Hours, The Eternal and Decades. They just build and build until Decades, which was an absolute banger. Perhaps even more spine tingling that Ceremony during the Encore. As a three song suicide note, as a reactor meltdown, and the earth stops spinning and you step off, with Hooky singing the chorus: "Where have they been"? It was an absolute revelation, and now the end of Closer makes sense to me. It is truly a towering monument of an album. And live, it is sublime. Short break and the light come out and Hooky leads into Ceremony, energy even higher, dude next to me is a dervish. Transmission has everyone screaming lyrics. Love Will Tear Us Apart with the audience participating. The last three songs alone were worth the admission price. If he was really tired, Hooky had rallied and had more energy than anyone in the audience. As my wife said afterwards: "I don't think any rock band could top the power of that encore". If you hate Joy Division, you should go and see what all the fuss is about. If you like Joy Division, you should go because you will hate yourself later for not going. If you love Joy Division, you should go because this is the cancelled 1980 tour from Kraftwerk intro to Love Will Tear Us Apart, albeit minus Ian Curtis, but with a respectful and reverent craftsmanship benefitting from an extra 40 years of polish on the performance.

  • Peter Hook and the light concert

by Gale on 9/10/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the very best concerts ever seen at Humphreys. Ian Curtis would be proud. What a spectacular performance by Peter Hook and the opening band.

  • Loved the shiw

by Little Richard on 9/9/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

If you are a Joy Division or New Order fan you loved the show with plenty of old hits as well as some newer material blended in.
