Superb dancing, beautiful costumes, wonderful stage and set.
Fantastic!
by hiro06 on 10/12/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5It was the first time to see a ballet. I love it and want to see again.
The Sleeping Beauty :Oregon Ballet Theatre
by ORENCO on 10/11/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5The Oregon Ballet Theatre shoujld be proud of this production. Amazing tallent and fantastic entertainment makes for an evening to remember for a long time. Wife sums it up in one word " Awesome". She was overwhelmed by the costumes .
Bolero was intense and amazing!
by serene42 on 6/7/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5There were three parts to this repertoire: classical, lyrical and the very passionate Bolero. The classical part was lovely, really showcasing "traditional" ballet. I admit, I'm not usually a fan of lyrical dance and this was no exception, but the dances were very athletic and those who prefer more poetic movement would most likely appreciate this. The final part, Bolero, was wonderful. I love the song Bolero, how it starts out so small and ends so intensely. The choreography was interesting, the dancing beautiful and the music very moving. I highly recommend!
Amazing!
by Anonymous on 6/4/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5One of the best dance performances I have ever seen. Go!!!!
Utter delight!
by Pengelesau on 6/4/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5My mother and I went together, not at all sure what we were in for---and came home utterly delighted. It was all a ballet could possibly be! Wonderful alternating of classical and more modern versions of ballet and music; exquisite dancing all around. We couldn't have been happier with the evening---except if it had gone on twice as long!
Oregon Ballet Theatre's Duets
by KZCA on 5/3/10Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5Oregon Ballet Theatre continues its forward progress under Christopher Stowell's direction. Gavin Larsen was beautiful in her final performance, and was deservedly showered with flowers and applause. Wish all of our jobs could end so gracefully. She was beautifully partnered by Artur Sultanov. Yuka Ilno was a stand out in all three of her roles. She is so delicate, yet confident and strong, very pretty too, delightful to watch in every way. Chauncey Parsons was very entertaining in Known by Heart Duet. Many of the steps in the modern Twyla Tharp ballet were outside the realm of classical ballet. He handled them all with grace, ease, and a bit of humor. The musicians were outstanding, Susan DeWitt Smith on piano and Margaret Bichteller on violin. The piano pieces for Tolstoy's Waltz were lovely and all new to me which made them a special treat. Stravinsky's difficult Duo Concertant was played beautifully. Looking forward to what OBT will do next.
DUETS mixes it up
by Valdez on 5/3/10Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5I must first say that this was my first trip to the ballet. I had always imagined that my first ballet performance would be The Nutcracker, so the diversity of dances executed during Duets seemed all the more wild. There were five distinctly different shows -- classical, modern, a mix of the two -- and the routine Like a Samba which was achieved a very sixties jazzy feel. I would recommend this show to ballet fans, whether they are season fans or new to the game like me.
Great Samba Ballet!
by Anonymous on 5/2/10Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5We enjoyed the ballet but felt some of it was very slow. We loved Like a Samba...would love to see more of Trey McIntyre's works! Also loved the lighting used for that piece. Over all a B+ and a bit over priced.
Waste of money and time
by Anonymous on 4/26/10Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5I think this was the biggest waste of time and money. I have know idea what the purpose of the ballet was.

It was wonderful. I was really impressed with the quality of the performance as well as the diversity of the pieces danced. The Oregon ballet theater has a wonderful group of dancers and I would highly recommend going to this and other productions put on by them.
often mechanical
by garlec on 4/25/10Newmark Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5OBT always dances well. The Stowell and Tharp choreographed pieces were mechanical and rigid. Not surprising of Tharp, one of my least favorite modern choreographers. "Divergence" from Lecrone was the star of the evening for its tenderness and connection between Martuza and Fry--that alone would have been worth the evening. OBT women have always been great. I am VERY impressed now with the superb quality of the OBT men. The program was varied and enjoyable. I miss Canfield for the intensity of the duets we saw with him. Wish the first balcony wasn't a sauna.
Second part was much better
by opera2009 on 3/22/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5I loved the second dance. The first was too contemporary for me.
Granddaughter's first Ballet
by dandalong on 3/14/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5This will be one of many ballet's that I take my granddaughter too. Having the orchestra was great! She loved the "people making music" as much as the ballet!
A Midsummer Night's Dream
by LadyCarol on 3/8/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5We enjoyed the production very much. Costuming, participants, orchestra, all a very worthwhile and affordable event
Oregon Ballet Theatre
by travelbunny53 on 3/8/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5Really enjoyed this show. The first part was modern with expressions in fun with body movements and the second half was Shakespeare's Classic Comedy done in a lighthearted and fairy filled ballet that was a joy to watch.
Midsummer Night's Dream
by yesyesyes1111 on 3/8/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5Excellent for my little 6 yr old ballerina. We attended the shorter children's performance. Truly a great show.
loved the midsummer part, not so much the four t's
by berryjam on 3/8/10Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5The Ballet advertised as a Midsummer Night's Dream was actually only half of it. First, we had to sit through a series of movements called the Four Temperments. It was technically impressive, but stark, plot-less, and dissident, so I did not enjoy it. The second half- the Midsummer Night's Dream part- was great. I loved the costumes, and I thought the play converted to a ballet really well. Puck was funny, and cupid was cute. The waiters were supposed to be funny but were just a little stupid. The dancer playing Oberon was a good actor- very regal.

Much shorter than I expected, it was entertaining, but I didn't expect to be there for less than an hour for an adaptation of a Shakespeare play. This was the consensus of the four of us who attended the show together.
