Bay Area to Portland this weekend, mostly to see Christopher Stowell's Oregon Ballet Theatre's "4 Temperments" and "Midsummer Nites' Dream," and both were very good, especially Balanchine's "4" which thru the mounting by his mother, Francia Russell, who danced in this at NYCB in late 50s/60s, gave it an authentic rendition that I very much enjoyed. I kept thinking of such dancers from that time as Maria Tallchief, Tanny LeClerq, Diana Adams, Patricia Wilde, Jacques D'Amboise, Conrad Ludlow & Melissa Hayden. The Midsummer was also good, but the stage was too small for all the sets/choreography, but overall, out of a 1 to 10 rating, I would give this company and performance an 8.5, which is quite good for a company that has limited resources and also a limited, ballet-wise, audience. My 1st visit to Portland, and thanks to Chris, it was worth the 625 miles driven each way.
