About

Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards including BEST MUSICAL, ONCE is a truly original Broadway experience. Featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage, ONCE tells the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician who's about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. As the chemistry between them grows, his music soars to powerful new heights... but their unlikely connection turns out to be deeper and more complex than your everyday romance. Emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking, ONCE draws you in from the very first note and never lets go. It's an unforgettable story about going for your dreams... not living in fear... and the power of music to connect all of us.

    Once

by NickM111 on 1/14/14Boston Opera House - Boston

I have been to a few shows mostly in large part bacause my wife really enjoys the theatre however I never really got into most of the story lines and the music is often brutal to me! once was just he opposite! the music was beautiful and the show was very well done. I was not bored or annoyed but yet another drawn out over the top song about taking a walk to the grocery store or singing about waking up in the morning or singing just because 2.5 hours need to be filled.....Each song served a purpose and was fantastic. The Boston opera house was very nice as well except for the terrible layout to get to the bathrooms and not enough drink lines.

    Amazing

by hkelly on 1/14/14Boston Opera House - Boston

This show exceeded my expectations! I took my mother to see it, as we are both huge fans of the movie/music, and we were both blown away!! The music, acting, everything was sheer perfection. I would suggest that anyone who loved the movie and is on the fence about the play, go see it...you will not be disappointed!!

    Once was magical

by deliciousnicity on 1/14/14Boston Opera House - Boston

This show was one of the best musicals I've seen in years. The performers were absolutely incredible, singing, dancing, playing instruments and telling a lovely story about friendship, dreams, love and music. I'd recommend it to anyone. See this show while you have the chance.

The performers the characters the music the voices and the instrumentals were all incredible. The story (even though it strayed a little form the movie of the same name) was involving and emotionally satisfying. Go see it

Once is a must see musical!

by Anonymous on 1/14/14Boston Opera House - Boston

I've been anticipating this musical for quite some time and needless to stay I was not let down. I was surprised when I entered the theatre and saw all the actors on stay performing as if in the bar or on the street. I thought when I was in the lobby I was just hearing a loud CD playing of some sort! Also during intermission the seats infront were able to go on stage and use the bar on set to get a drink and view the set up close. The music was absolutely amazing, I enjoyed more than the movie and original soundtrack. I would defiantly recommend anyone to go!

    fabulous

We went to the play due to our enjoyment of the movie. We felt the play, though different then the movie, stood on its own and was very entertaining. Very impressed with the acoustics, could hear everything very well.

It was not what I expected. I thought it would have more of the Irish heritage but it did not. One of the main characters the "girl" was not Irish she was Czech. It was a little hard to understand what the Czech girl and her family were saying, their voices were not clear. The music was amazing, I loved all the songs but they were ALL slow songs, nothing upbeat. I may of dozed off a bit. Beautiful love story but the ending was disappointing.

    Once a singular musical experience

by ajabMPT on 1/13/14Boston Opera House - Boston

Once was an unexpected pleasure of musical virtuosity. All characters played one or more instruments in the on-stage 'orchestra' which was impressive and unusual. It was a musical which the songs all had a yearning, lost-love quality to them which at times didn't advance the plot the way classic musicals do. Lovely story of a chance meeting changing lives, without a saccharine ending to wrap it up in a convenient bow. I now want to see the movie that inspired it. Highly recommended for all music and musical lovers.

Sound was awful, volume was too low and could not understand or follow artists dialogs.

The show was awesome. It was fun and funny and the actors are charismatic. Going on stage is a fantastic part of the show. Get in line early enough to do it and you'll love it. The accents are a little rough at times but the music and singing are enchanting and there are few experiences like well executed musical theater. Do yourself a favor and find a way to get in the building.

    ONCE was enough

by Marjalo on 1/12/14Boston Opera House - Boston

The story and the music are great - but it was really hard to hear, exhausting by the end just from straining, and we were on the mezzanine. The choreography was at about high school level, and if you've never seen the movie I don't know how you'd be expected to follow the plot, especially the ending - - but the actors were good, and really lovely music if you don't care about hearing every (or most) words.

This show was outstanding. Very different from any other show I've ever been to. The talent of the cast was amazing. Every actor played multiple instruments and sang beautifully. The score was so unique and beautiful. I would definitely recommend this show to a friend and would love to see it again when it comes back to Boston or in NYC.

    Once was once too many

by Laney277 on 1/11/14Boston Opera House - Boston

Found this show to be very boring...the music was slow and somewhat depressing. Think of Irish pub music as upbeat and this nearly made us fall asleep. Left shortly after intermission because the 2nd half didn't get any better
