This is a wonderful show! Everybody was glowing and it felt like a very happy performance!

  • Nutcracker is a holiday treat

by artlover87 on 12/11/12Florence Gould Hall at FIAF - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I took my four year old daughter and she made it through the whole show! Barely, but she made it. We loved the rat queen. Her costume was amazing. The choreography was creative and entertaining. Incorporating the rat tails and giant exercise balls was whimsical and exciting. From the moment we entered the building the experience was lovely. I appreciated that one of the little dancers handing out programs told my daughter her dress was pretty. That made her day.

Fine for young children. Would have been fun to meet the ballerinas.

  • Creative, exquisite and unique Nutcracker!

by JTandP on 12/9/12Florence Gould Hall at FIAF - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I would highly recommend this production of the Nutcracker to anyone and everyone, not just those with young children (although the length, energy and creativity of the production certainly will hold the attention of even very little ones)! The sets and costumes are lush and gorgeous, the dancing is first-rate and the choreography is unique and unforgettable!

  • Sleeping Beauty

by MeliaD on 5/18/11French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

We went on a Sunday afternoon - the place is okay not very thoughtful for children my dc is 4 and we were lucky nobody was in front of us and she could see the entire show without moving to much but i could see a lot of other kids upset because a lot of the adults were covering there view - The Ballet started very well, beautiful customs but didn't do it justice to the story, also they introduce red riding hood into the play and confuse most of the children. Overall I would tell my friends to go with there children for the experience but not very impressed -

  • Loved It

    by LBK1212 on 5/17/11French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

My daughters first ballet - she loved it and was mesmerized - they did an amazing job keeping 3 year olds interested!

no talking throughout. My 3 year old daugter enjoyed it though. She takes a ballet class, so maybe that added to the enjoyment. Me (and other parents) helped the kids by quietly narrating the story. Good show, though it would have been better if it ended 10 min earlier. All in all, it was a little pricey, but definitely enjoyable.

Exquisite Little Ballets is a one hour production of 4 ballet pieces, geared to children from 4 to 100 and is delightful. NYTB is adept at storytelling with fluid musicality. The children around me, myself and the other adults all ooohed, aaahed and giggled. I left wanting more.

  • "Alice in Wonderland Follies" -- O frabjous night!

by MissJeanLouise on 4/15/11Florence Gould Hall - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

Keith Michael's choreography is exceptional. Such a variety of dancing styles in this work match perfectly with the outlandishness that is Alice's wonderland. Highlights include the slapstick laughs inspired by Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the creative and original "Jabberwocky" scene, and the poignant Alice/White Rabbit pas de deux. Strong dancing plus an interesting post-show Q & A with NYTB directors, Keith Michael and principal dancers. My 5-year old and I both really enjoyed the evening.

  • "Exquisite Little Ballets" -- exquisitely done

by MissJeanLouise on 4/15/11Florence Gould Hall - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

Four charming and diverse dances plus an informative interactive session with the founder/artistic director of NYTB (all within one hour) = a fun and successful outing for young children. My 5-year old and her friend loved the show. It was thoughtfully organized with short, high quality pieces (Tudor, de Mille, Goslar). NYTB clearly understands the attention span of kids but does not talk down to them or offer watered down works. The educational portion was surprisingly rich, and it definitely captivated the children in the audience. Highly recommended.

  • Exquisite Little Ballets

by Booklyn01 on 4/15/11Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderful program of small ballets that appealed to children and the child in all of us. The dancing was lovely and the inclusion of the children as dancing examples was charming. Loved it!

The combination of short, well-done ballet segments interspersed with Diana Byer's teaching points about the ballet was new, and kept the children in the audience amused. It was especially fun to have children from the ballet school as part of the performance.

Not bad, buut not great. Good for those interested in history of theater ballet.

  • Cinderella was so-so

by MISSAIM on 2/15/11French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Length of performance was very appropriate for a toddler; the set was visually pleasing; the casting choices for the wicked step sisters (ie., males) were confusing for a toddler and overall the performance was average.

  • Boring for the most part.

by Lanimay on 2/14/11French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

Waste of time and money. They didn't let us in until it was about 10 minutes before the show (and it was windy/freezing, so were standing by the door shivering)!!! Then the show started 10 minutes late! Never again ...

  • Nutcracker lacks luster

by SantaDeborah on 12/22/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

I took my three year old grandaughter to see the Nutcracker and opted for the best available seats. The best available seats happened to be terrible. The whole first section of the theatre, seats with double letters (our seats were EE 110 and 111) are totally useless for chidren and should not be sold for children oriented productions. My grandaughter who has up until now shown interest in ballet was far from awed by this production. She was more interested in the lights above the stage and the snowflakes reflected on the wall than with what was happening on the stage... that's because she couldn't see the dancers very well. The set for the production was also rather colorless and lacked imagination. Needless to say, I don't think we will return for another show. Thank you for this opportunity to report on our experience.

  • Not worth the money......

    by Angie306 on 12/21/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

The times I remember going to the Nutcracker it was an ADULT show only! There were crying babies and too much talking to even enjoy the show. I felt like the show was rushed and the dancers were not that great. Very dissapointed!

Went with a friend and our 3yr old sons and had a great time. Very child friendly and age appropriate. Would certainly recommend for other parents w/young children. Expect a bit of noise in the crowd as there were as many 3-5yr olds as there were adults. At 3, a 1hr performance is perfect. Any longer wouldn't have worked.

  • Nutcracker for kids - terrific and engaging!

by KalJackjul on 12/21/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Perfect in length. I wouldn't spring for the orchestra bc it's hard for the kiddos to see. The costumes and set design were better than expected for such a short production.
