  • Meh

by Jennem on 12/21/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

The sets were amateurish, the dance quality was not high, the storyline choppy. Music canned and low-quality sound. Since you can pay the same price for some absolutely spectacular Nutcrackers, the ONLY advantage of this one is the short length. I'd say go see a different one and just leave early if it's too long for your child.

  • Great starter production

by ClAq on 12/19/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This production is great to introduce children to ballet.

  • by keelees123 on 12/15/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This was my daughter's (4yrs) 1st time at the ballet and it super exceeded all of my expectations. The how was wonderful and the length was perfect for children. I would definitely recommend!!

  • Pretty good overall

by nycmommy on 12/15/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Good performance for the 3-7 set! The event is short (1 hr) with lots of great and lively costumes. Esp. for girls who are into ballet--there are lots of real live ballerinas! Only criticism is that the actual printed program could be a little more detailed and elaborate.

  • Mediocre at best

    by selena4now on 12/14/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

Perhaps as a former ballerina, and someone who has been in Nutcracker performances for many years, I was incredibly dissapointed with the alteration of the storyline. Yes, I know it was for small children, but how dumbed down does it really need to be? Where the act that got the most applause was a batton twirrler? really? It was not a ballet, I would not take my daughter to it. If they want to see a fun dance/acro performance take them to Cirque du Soliel, don't ruin the Nutcracker....

perfect story version for the audience and perfect amount of time for the performance!

  • A great first ballet

by OmiMormor on 5/3/10Tilles Center Concert Hall - BrookvilleRating: 4 out of 5

On Sunday, May 2nd, I brought my granddaughter to see her first ballet. She simply loved the presentation. She laughed at the animals and marveled at their dance. Being a first year ballet student, she appreciated the hard work of the dancers. In her words, "They really practiced a lot!" She sat on the edge of her seat during Sleeping Beauty. I am sure there will be many ballets in her future.

  • NYTB's Nutcracker, best for kids

    by Gretchen123 on 12/21/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I have enjoyed NYTB's Nutcracker for a few years now. I love how interactive it is with the children and the whole audience. Their dancers are outstanding and the acting is magical. You truly feel transported into a delicious little girl's dream. Not to miss, especially if you have young children.

  • Great Nutcracker Introduction for Young Children

by DoubleDad on 12/21/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

We took our 8 year old daughter and 4 year old son to the New York Theater Ballet's Nutcracker and they had a wonderful time. The 8 year old really wants to see a full production, but the 4 year old isn't ready for something that long and he really isn't ready to be quiet enough for Lincoln Center audience. But both loved this short version at Florence Gould Hall. The show includes a short narrated introduction that is fun and helps introduce children to the idea of ballet as a story without words. The dancers are great and engaging. The halls is terrific. The youngest ballet students were adorable. It is really a simple, fun hour and great for young kids, parents and grandparents. Some impressive dancing is toned down, but it still works well. My whole family recommends it. One thing to be aware of is that access to the theater involves climbing down a few flights of stairs. If accessibility is an issue, there is an elevator available from the building next door. That sounds weird, but anyone at the box office can direct you and it is actually quite easy.

  • The worst Nutcracker ever

by bluedanube on 12/21/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

I am very used to big productions and this event was not it. It was a one hour event for little kids which is not how the event was advertised. The ballet was completely horrible, the dancers even worse and the complete story was broken with characters missing and a horrible stage. The seats that I bought were supposed to be one of the best however when I showed up at the theatre the first 6 rows layed flat, which mean that if someone one inch taller than you sat in front of you you will not be able to see at all. I couldn't see the stage well, plus the stage was no bigger than 20 feet wide. Overall this was the worse event I have ever attended. I left in the middle of the performance because I didn't want to waste my time nor ruin the image that I have about the Nutcracker. I am so dissapointed that I wasted my money on this event. Word of advise, if you are in NYC and you want to spend less than $100 in a ballet ticket, expect a horrible and small production which inexperienced dancers. You better save your money and go to the big productions if you want to see something worth seeing, this by far was the worse ballet I have ever attended.

  • wonderful

by meeshp on 12/21/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent introduction to the ballet for young ones. Beautiful choreography and kid friendly scenery. Short enough to keep their attention span. A special treat

  • PERFECT for little ballerinas

by VVCHOPS on 12/21/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

My 2.5 year old LOVED this event. It was the perfect length and since the audience was all kids, there was no pressure - kids can just enjoy themselves. The perfect start to a Nutcracker tradition.

  • The Nutcracker

    by RYLGCNY09 on 12/20/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

This was a wonderful show. The length of duration was perfect or 5 year old, and the story is magical. Great performance!

  • Fantastic

My five-year-old son was spellbound. I will be back for their next performance.

  • Great show, too many crying children!!

by JGBNOLA on 12/16/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

It was my first time seeing the Nutcracker or any ballet for that matter. They put on a great show, I was definately impressed. I went to a Saturday afternoon show and it was children galore!! I'm ok with kids, I'm a teacher.... but many of these parents just let their children talk, yell or scream and cry throughout the show. I understand there will be "meltdowns", but take your children outside of the theatre if they can not be controlled!!

  • The Nutcracker Ballet

    by dan6er on 12/14/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The abridged version for children was wonderful. I think all the children were transfixed at the stage most of the time. Would recommend.

  • Nice Event for Kids

  • NYTB Nutcracker a winner!!!!

by Botonidyl on 12/14/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic child-friendly show! The ballet dancers were amazing! My daughter didn't take her eyes off the stage for one moment! A great way to celebrate the holidays!

  • Wonderful Nutcracker Experience

by Anonymous on 12/14/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This is my third year taking my daughter and I was very impressed with the changes made this year - the new costumes and sets were incredibly colorful and fun, and the changes they made to the choreography were all terrific - I especially really loved the way the entire cast came together toward the end. The performance was very fluid and dynamic. I usually get pretty bored at the ballet (even ones that only last an hour) and this performance had me enthralled the entire time.

  • Wonderful for younger children

by Aniashivilli on 12/14/09French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I love the Nutcracker, but usually it is too much and too long for younger children. This version is only 1 hour long - perfect for all ages but particularly for children under 6 years old. The dancers kept the adults entertained as well and so did the beautiful Tchaikosvky music.
