  • Gary Jr was the best

by dafelonousone on 10/7/13Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Gary jr on the guitar, no one is better. This dude is a legend already. His live shows remind me of Prince musically. He doesn't dance around like Prince but that's not his style.

  • Gary Clark, Jr. is one of the best guitarists!

    by Reader256 on 10/7/13Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Gary Clark, Jr. played a fantastic, eclectic show at the Fox Theater; he was sublime and riveting. I do have two complaints about the Fox Theater: 1) the percussion (bass and drums) are severely over-mic'ed. They were painfully loud during both the opening act and the main act, so much so that Gary's softer guitar-playing got lost in the mix. 2) the seats offer no leg room. I'm only 5'6, but I had to sit squashed back against my theater seat as far as I could go, and my knees were still touching the seat in front of me. My friend, who is taller than I am, was in pain from the experience, and twice had to get up and move around.

  • Superb

No wonder everyone says Gary Clark Jr is the new blues guitar sensation. Fantastic gig, wonderful musicianship and such a modest guy. What a talent. And the Fox Oakland is great.

  • Awesome real blues soul

by TheRealEddie on 10/6/13Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark Jr. is a phenomenal guitar player. His blues licks will drop your jaw. I love is voice too. Versatile and subtly cool. What a great, straight-ahead no-frills show. I only wish he had a band that would interact with him more. The band was great and followed his lead throughout, but they were more in the tradition of BB King or James Brown backing bands than Jimi's Experience. I'll bet Gary could fly pretty damn high with a band that was interacting instead of just backing.

  • It was good, but there were some minor things.

Venue: I enjoyed my experience there, mainly because I upgraded my seat. I'm disappointed in the seating in the mezzanine area because that seemed to be strictly to make more money because that area was not suited to have seats that people would have to constantly get up throughout the show so other guests could move around. The upstairs volunteer staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, the downstairs staff and manager who I upgraded my ticket with were professional and very helpful. The bartender in the V.I.P. section was not, on the other hand. I'm going to leave out why I thought she was especially aloof to me while gracious and smiling to the other guests in V.I.P. Show: Gary Clark Jr. was amazing, very energetic, I loved every moment of the show. It was a real treat to be able to watch the show from the V.I.P. section and go out into the crowd. Clark's voice is one of a kind and I hope he continues to prosper.

  • Gary Clark Jr. was AWSOME

by rroadie on 10/6/13Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

The Fox Oakland venue is just beautiful. Gary Clark Jr. played all his great songs. I was surprised how much the live show sounded like the Blak and Blu album. If you are the weak of ears you didn't want to be there; the music was LOUD just like I'm sure his fans expected. The crowd was unexpectedly middle aged. There were fans of all ages and colors but Gary has a middle America fan base I think.....He takes the blues and fuzzy overdrive to a new level......did a great show and every one in the packed house LOVED him and his music. Also I took BART to Oakland from S.F. and it was just seamless and painless (my first time )...I recommend the FOX and BART !!!!!

  • Gary Clark Jr. is brilliantly amazing

What an amazing performer/musician! He can play it all: blues, rock, jazz, even did a little beat boxing. He's absolutely incendiary with a guitar.

This was my first time at the Fox Theater in Oakland and it is a great venue. Gary Clark Jr. Is fresh and he put on an excellent concert. Our seats were way up in the balcony, but visibility was good, sound was ok.

Mind. Blown. I wish you could stay small venue, but with that talent...no way. Thank you, sir.

Amazing! One of the best shows I've seen in a while. Wish I could do it all over again.

  • Gary Clark Jr - improving on Hendrix

    by Candyman10 on 10/5/13Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

In addition to the virtuosos guitar play of Gary Clark, Jr., he has a beautiful voice and another guitarist that also can play an exceptional lead. His unbelievable and awesome guitar solos and jams in the middle of the songs always seemed to stay within the integrity of the song and add to it instead of being a random jam or rift. Great experience for lovers of blues to guitar rock.

If you have the opportunity you need to see Gary Clark Jr. I haven't seen a guitar player like him in a long time.

  • Awesome!

by TJinCA on 9/30/13House of Blues San Diego - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Gary Clark Jr. was awesome. Not your typical blues flashy leads (a la Bonamassa, etc), but he FEELS the blues. Great show.

This was the first time my husband and I got to see Gary Clark Jr live. He was amazing! I'd say he's in the same league as Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn! I highly recommend everyone to see him live!
