About

THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS IN CONCERT:

The old-timey blues and R&B of The California Honeydrops transports fans to a bygone musical era every time they take the stage. At their live shows the band whips up a New Orleans-style party, turning out their rootsy, celebratory tunes with infectious energy and tremendous musical prowess. In addition to guitar, drums, upright bass, trumpet, and saxophone The California Honeydrops incorporate old-fashioned instruments like jug, washboard, and gutbucket bass that are a heck of a lot of fun to see in action. Leading the charge is band leader Lech Wierzynski, a multi-talented performer whose soulful voice and clever lyrics make songs like "Pumpkin Pie" and "Like You Mean It" shine. Ticket buyers looking for a fresh take on the sounds of yesterday won't want to miss these talented performers as they bring the house down with their boisterous performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Polish-born Lech Wierzynski cut his teeth playing jazz and blues at late night jam sessions while living in Washington, D.C. After studying with Ray Charles' former trumpet player Marcus Belgrave he relocated to Oakland, where in 2007 he formed the California Honeydrops. The group spent their early days performing in the city's subway stations, honing an interactive style that engaged passerby with their rollicking tunes. In 2008 they started making waves above ground, releasing their debut album Soul Tub! and then embarking on a European tour of Germany, Poland, and The Netherlands.  While still occasionally performing in Oakland subways, the band followed up with the albums Spreadin' Honey (2010) and Like You Mean It (2013), both of which they supported with extensive touring and performances at major festivals like the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Hot on the heels of their 2015 album River's Invitation and their first Australian tour, The California Honeydrops are in peak form and ready to get ticket buyers feeling good on tour.

  • California Honeydrops don’t disappoint, HOB good venue

by Smiling dancer on 10/6/25House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

California Honeydrops put on an excellent show. Dancing all through the night. Loving Lech angelic, soulful voice. Really digging Lorenzo’s sick keyboard work. Everyone was just great, I don’t remember all the names. I know Lech and Ben have been together the whole time, they have great chemistry. The House of Blues Cleveland is a good venue. The CHD show was not sold out, and I think it if was the venue would have been cramped. But overall it’s a good venue, two bars. Upstairs. It was hard to tell what areas were accessible. VIP options on this evening were discounted, not sure if it would be worth the full price (which is think is $100).

They were great. I only heard a few songs before I went and I enjoyed the show. The band was very nice and the horn section was great. Highly recommend.

The band was absolutely terrific. Talented musicians and a love for what they do. Great show. The reserved seats on the upper level were great too.

Great venue at Humphreys, great weather. First time SRO at Humphreys, perfect for the Drops, would be silly to be seated. Great show, always interacting with the crowd, happy music.

  • Great venue & great band!

by Winterland Ken on 1/4/25Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

We saw the California Honeydrops at Uptown Theater in Napa. Its a great venue. Even though we decided to go at a late date, and ended up 1-2 rows in the back of the balcony, the seats were good. Decent accoustics, although there were some "gabbers"behind us. Given we were under the overhang, we heard just about everything they were saying. Irritating! First time seeing CA Honeydrops, but they were BETTER than our optomistic expectations. Much better than their live tracks on Spotify and Apple Music. High energy, classically trained musicians. Warm up artist, R O Shapiro was entertaining in the opening set. We were not familiar with this singer-songrwriter beforehand. We wish him well. All in, a great night out at a lovely venue!

  • Great band

This is the second time I have seen the Honeydrops. The first time was at the Sisters Folk Festival in Oregon, 3-4 years ago. I was impressed with them then, and even more impressed now. The are an outstanding group of musicians who ROCK!!! Very tight arrangements, great horns, great rhythm section, excellent keyboards and great guitar. Mostly, they have great energy. One of the most fun shows I have seen in years.

  • So much fun!

by TS on 10/22/24Riverfront Live - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

So, so, good. This band is full of great musicianship! Lech has a wonderful voice. Think retro-soul meets New Orleans Jazz. They played two sets and nearly three hours of music. Great horn section! One of the best shows I've seen this year. The crowd went crazy for them! Will definitely see them again, if given the opportunity.
