About

Australian electro-pop duo Empire of the Sun possess a well-proven ability to entertain. Known for their epic performances chock-full of production value and artistic flare, the band treated fans to one of the most exciting and synergistic concert experiences of the 2013 summer festival circuit. Accompanied on stage by a troupe of costumed dancers and state-of-the-art visuals, Empire of the Sun wowed ticket holders across the US and Europe with their energetic sets of danceable hits like "Alive" from 2013's Ice on the Dune.

Empire of the Sun began as the side project of musicians Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau.  With the success of their 2008 debut album Walking on a Dream, the project became a focal point for the duo, resulting in their first live performances as a band in 2009. In 2013, their sophomore album Ice on the Dune reached No. 3 in Australia and No. 20 on the US Billboard 200, with lead single "Alive" receiving the remix treatment by some of the world's top DJs including David Guetta, Zedd and DJ Tiesto. With their electrifying performance style, adrenalized synths, and electro beats, the duo is not afraid to push the limits of showmanship, leaving fans eager for their 2014 performances.

by Romero F on 6/10/19Webster Hall - New York

Love this band. Emperor Luke Steele gets straight to the point. The vibrance of the show is what you would expect from Empire of the Sun. 10 year anniversary and they delivered every bit of egnigma and nostalgia

    Made Me Feel So “Alive”

by Cvogs on 6/9/19Webster Hall - New York

We were told the show started at 7 so that was when we arrived, however the band did not come out until 9. There was an hour of the pre show TV screen. I was most bummed about that but luckily, we got very close to the front because we were so early. However I still wish they had told us they were going to come out an 9. But the performance however, completely SPECTACULAR! EOS puts on a great show. It’s totally one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen but it made it all the more fun. The crowd was respectful and all older than me (20F) and we were all there to enjoy an incredible show. I can’t say enough about the performance as I’ve never seen anything like it. I would spend any money to see them again.

    Underwhelming

    by M. B. on 6/9/19Webster Hall - New York

The visual setup was gorgeous but that's about all. I'm not sure if EOTS was having difficulty feeding off the energy of the half dead crowd or what, but I was so bored I left early. It didn't help that instead of an opening act, we were subjected to a 45min loop of retro ads-many people were complaining about it. This was a bucket list band for me so it's painful to admit all this. I also don't know what was up with the highly passive aggressive nature of the crowd! I've had great experiences at Webster Hall in the past.

    Love Empire of the Sun

    by Leo8924 on 5/15/17Echostage - Washington

I had a great time seeing empire of the sun. It is one thing I can check off my list. I wanted to see them last october when they were in DC for a festival, but I was unable to go. So as soon as I saw that they were going to be back in town, I jumped at the opportunity to buy tickets. I wish I would have known earlier though, I would have looked at getting a table on the upper level so that I could see everything. Finally, there are two members in the band but one was only there so, I thought that was weird...unless he was playing guitar in the back ground.

    Terrible sound!

by Ursakate on 4/18/17The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

No sound - just a really loud noise. Their sound director is not professional, I couldn't hear anything. Just wasted my money. Very disappointed (

    Exceptional Performance

by AXE75 on 4/18/17The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

One of my favorite bands out there over the past 10 years. Their live performance is high energy, theatrical, and lives up to the expectation I had seeing their performances on viral video. I was proud to be there and represent the white-middle aged, heterosexual, military veterans community. The crowd was mostly LGBT and hetero-females in their 20's and early 30's. Not trying to "mansplain" (whatever that means) here. Just stating the obvious. I have a variety of friends from all cross-sections of life. The only part of the show that lost me was the "I'm your father Luke" moment where his dad's head pops up on the back screen. The lead singer and dad have dialogue and then the lead singer appears to have a near melt down as he segways into the next song. Daddy issues? This aside, the sound system, dancing, theatrics, musicianship, vocals, and flow of the performance were all outstanding. EOTS seemingly borrow from a number of influences (Bowie, Depeche Mode, Possibly ABBA, NIN, Prince), to come up with an eclectic sound all their own. For music enthusiasts who have an extensive palette, I highly recommend seeing EOTS.

    Amazing!

by WastewayWarrior on 4/18/17The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I've been to many concerts in my life but this was an amazing experience. EOTS opened with Friends and DNA. Each song and chorus exploded with lights and smoke, while Luke hit front and center and sang his heart out before a super high energy crowd that jumped with every bass hit, which made your seat shake. It was an amazing sight from above and I can't imagine the way Luke and the band felt during that. The band was tight and the dancers were on point with their costumes, which fit the style of dancing, with the music and visuals. Besides the obvious songs, I'll be Around was another highlight that slowed things up. It was beautiful live and that guitar! Also the songs most people skip sounded great live which was refreshing. I did wish the main synth melody was present for Concert Pitch and the rhythm guitar for Standing on the Shore. At one point Luke smashed his guitar like a rock star! Closed with the anthem Alive, pretty awesome. The sound quality was great. There was a moment of noise during Way To Go but I could not make out if it was part of the performance. I got there when The Avalanches were playing. They are unique and they had a great set. I had to Google them because they were pretty cool. We stayed at The Cosmopolitan so getting in and out was a breeze. They have some interesting art to view though. Getting to our seats was easy. We had the last seats on the top floor on the last row but the way its all designed, we ended up dead center and its actually close to the stage and the bar. Downstairs you stand but wow the energy of the crowd was amazing. For those of us that like to sit and chill or want to bring your child, the top is the way to go.
