Saw the production with family - adults & kids. All were impressed with the excellent production: characters, cast members, costumes, music, & props.

Theater was very warm, uncomfortable warm. Staff was excellent in handling an emergency.

  • Great show, bad theatre

by Maestro on 12/30/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Lion King is an absolutely beautiful show and was well performed. Unfortunately, the sound balance was terrible and was often impossible to hear or understand the vocals or dialogue. Also, after intermission, itnappears theatre turned off all air flow, as it got unbearably hot in the theatre, especially with everyone dressed in winter clothes. This was the primary discussion overheard on the way out, instead of how great the show was from young and old alike. For reference, this was the Tuesday, 12/27, 7:30 performance at the Palace theatre.

  • Loud and noisy

by Chicagoan on 12/30/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The show was over-miked. I understood very little of what was said or sung. It was loud and fuzzy. The concessionaire sold water bottles made of thin plastic that made a terrible noise when squeezed, and many people squeezed them throughout the show. Extremely distracting. The puppets, of course are the reason to see this show, and the young Simba was a standout among an otherwise so-so cast. This was my third time seeing The Lion King, and I had been looking forward to it. On the whole, I would not recommend this production.

  • King

by Joe on 12/30/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Very good production. Venue has great acoustics and no bad seats. Young Simba steals the show but total cast is excellent. Great theater experience for young teens - not so much for kids younger.

  • Great performance - bad logistics at theatre

    by Carolyn B on 12/28/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The performance was great. Dropped the star because of the venue logistics at Cadillac Theatre in Chicago. We saw the show when it was -20, and due to security lines, families and grandparents were left in the cold for 20-30 minutes. Not sure if it would be possible to open doors earlier, or perhaps move the metal detectors a bit further inside? Also, from our seats in the lower balcony, we could not see the actors when they were on top of some of the equipment (pride rock, etc) due to the location of the lights in the theatre.

  • Fun in Chicago

by Fun in Chicago on 12/28/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The lion king was absolutely the best performance I’ve seen. The costumes were unbelievable and the actors were so into their animal characters. Recommend 100%! The theater was beautiful.

  • Problems with Sound

by TaxingJean on 12/28/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

From the initial song and throughout the show, certain characters were not clear or able to be understood. I heard audience members asking people around them if they could understand. It appears the sound level was too low. It improved for some characters as the musical progressed, but it did detract from overall enjoyment.

  • LionKingLive

by Tru on 12/27/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed this production. I went alone with myself, it was freezing cold outside, but it was totally worth it. They did some ad-libs which were funny and it was, I would say true to the movie. I'm glad I went to see it. I would recommend it. Kids would enjoy it as well. My granddaughter lives out of state so it was just me.

  • I loved it !!

  • magnificent

by FamilyV on 12/27/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

What an encore to last years Frozen. We’ve been waiting quite sometime for the return of The Lion King. Well worth the wait. Saying we were amazed is an understatement. Not only are the performers magnificent bit also everyone behind the “curtain” to make this what it is. The orchestra, sound team, visual team, stage and costume team. We cannot wait to see what is coming for December 2023. Thank you to all for making our Christmas that much more special.

  • Absolutely Phenomenal

I took my husband, sister and elderly Father to see the show on Christmas Eve. My Dad was so amazed he was wearing his BIG smile. That made me proud. My entire family went home raving about such a wonderful show experience. It was so worth it!

  • The music was beautiful. The costumes were amazing!!

by BARBARA on 12/27/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I had seen The Lion King when it first came to Chicago over 20 years ago. I loved it then and I still enjoyed it once again. The costumes were even more clever than I remembered. Some of the actors voices were amazing. I would definitely recommend everyone to see The Lion King. There were many children in the audience and they all seemed to enjoy the show.

  • Hard working cast!

by winjo on 12/26/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Show itself was good. would recommend sitting as close to the stage as you can afford. We were in the 1st balcony and I think it was hard to focus on the animal costumes vs. the humans manipulating them but the actors were energetic and did a very good job. Wish there were more songs that were memorable. The two issues we had were the LONG lines for the restrooms during intermission but more annoying was the group of 5 children with one adult in the row immediately in front of us. The adult and two of the kids were on their cell phones playing games and reading texts/emails etc. almost non-stop throughout the performance which really was a distraction. Wish a staff person had asked them to not use their devices during the show. I guess I should have tried to find someone to address the situation.

  • Good but not the lion king from 17yrs ago

by Meg on 12/26/22Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

We had great seats in the dress circle, took my family has a Christmas gift. Getting in was bit hectic not typical to Broadway play. This stage seem a bit too small for the Lion king production and the play itself didn’t seem as grand as the original. It was good but not like the original.
