About

David Gray on Tour

David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.

David Gray in Concert

English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

  • FANTASTIC

by Michelle on 1/27/25MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was excellent. Security and attendee helping seat you. All excellent. . My view was excellent. David Gray I’m in love with. Seen him 4 times and first time was in London. He was probably in his 30’s with his tongue hanging out. I love that he talks to the crowd explaining his songs or his life. His band is wonderful. I love his drummer and fun colors of sticks. David’s voice is so good. I love how he moves his left leg to the songs/ beats. I love acoustic guitar and using his band when then come into the song a few measures later with the beats. So so good! I love you David. Wish I personally known you! I’m happy for your success!!

  • Best yet!

by Jake on 1/27/25MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen David Gray many times in concert. I think this was his best show I have seen. The play list was fantastic and spread out perfectly. His new songs were awesome and blended with his hits made for a very enjoyable evening. His two hour performance was full of energy and his band was on top all evening. MGM Fenway was a great venue to see the show. Being the first stop on the US tour was kind of nice to be part of too! David Gray is a true showman and it was a great night out and fabulous start to the weekend.

  • One of the best storyteller of our time.

by Kip on 1/27/25MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

There simply aren’t many storytellers of David’s caliber in the modern age. Not only did he sound great, but his engagement with the audience was special and heartfelt and funny all at the same time. Now, if we could get a double bill with David and Jason Isbell, I’d be in heaven!

  • Amazing

by KCP on 1/27/25MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was a dream come true. He sounded amazing and the venue was fantastic.

  • David Gray Past, Present, Perfect

by CVH on 1/26/25Rating: 5 out of 5

Tonight’s concert at The Met Philadelphia amazing. His voice is strong and in great form. Multi- talented band members made for a great night of new and old music but all of it pitch perfect. From fast paced and energized to slow and poignant the concert was fun and excitement. His joy was evident in his characteristic movements playing keyboard, guitar and tambourine. The only downside of the night is the familiar one at the Met and other venues. rude crowds at the bars that are there for talking. laughing and drinking with the music being background to their private party

  • Amazing David Gray at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery

by Heather-O on 6/15/23Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - WoodinvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Every show that David Gray puts on is amazing, and this one was extra special at Chateau Ste Michelle's Winery. Out under the stars. It was fabulous!

  • What a performer!!

by Doc on 11/27/22Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

First of all, I love the Greek Theater when seeing great performers like David Gray!! Parking does suck though! Best thing to do is park off-site and take advantage of the shuttle service. Costs about $10-20 round trip, if I remember correctly? Totally worth it! I was sitting 10th row center and ended up not having anyone sitting next to me on either side. David's voice sounded amazing and his son selection was great! Check out setlist.fm for the song selection. I can't wait to see him again on his next tour!! Awesome show!!

  • David Gray was absolutely fabulous!

by DeaconMom on 9/24/22Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I have ever attended! After waiting 4 years from date of ticket purchase until concert due to covid, David Gray was fabulous! Loved every minute!

  • Best concert I’ve ever gone to.

by David gray on 9/3/22Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

David Gray didn’t have an opening band but he played longer than any other band or singer I’ve gone to see. I love it. He is so good!!!!

  • Phenomenal

  • Best Concert Ever!!!!!

by Elle on 8/31/22Leader Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I will start by saying I haven't been to many concerts and the one's I have gone to were more of a bunch of bands like Ozzfest which were great but David..... David was by far one of the best time's I have ever had at the Leader Bank Pavillion, it was such a laid back crowd and I cannot wait to go back next time to sit front row, it was almost 2 weeks ago and I'm still listening to him nonstop. The only small negative thing is my friend looked up the guidelines for bags and had a small bag within those guidelines but they said it was too big so everyone size down one from whatever the measurements are listed ...they are not correct but the Venue was great...if your a drinker plan on spending some money.....worth it!!!

Enjoyed the concert tremendously. David Gray put on a good show, with a great setlist and some neat variety. The outdoor venue was a lot better than I expected; probably weren't any bad seats.

  • Absolutely amazing

by LynneM on 8/24/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first live concert post-pandemic and it was the most moving and uplifting experience I have had in a long time. David is always an amazing performer but he was particularly electric on this occasion. He really connected with the audience; there was so much passion in his performance and it showed in how the audience responded. He just took the power of these songs we all know well to a whole new level and made it feel like we were rediscovering him all over again. People were standing, hugging, crying. It was such a powerful reminder that nothing can come close to the experience of seeing a great artist live.

  • Amazing venue, amazing show!

We were blown away by the concert. David gray was so much more than we knew he could be on stage! So engaging with the audience and so happy to be up there performing. His joy was infectious! Gorgeous outdoor venue in an area of Boston we’d never seen and would like to return to

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!

by Erika on 8/23/22Leader Bank Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Loved that he did 2 acts. Even better-he brought out his original drummer. Please Forgive me was incredible. I also loved that he shared a little personal story about his dad when he was getting started and they met David Bowie. This was our 4th time seeing David Grey and his best show yet. Of course Harborlights is the ultimate place to see a show. Can’t wait to see him again!
