David Gray on Tour
David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.
David Gray in Concert
English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

Great show great venue at the Greek Theater!! David is a fantastic artist and brings great entry and personality to the stage!!
The best concert I’ve been to in a hot second! He was better than. I could have ever imagined! He was so fun and entertaining! Thank you DG for the lifetime memory!
This show was fantastic! David Gray is always so good and such a powerhouse! The Greek is such a wonderful place to see him perform.
This was the most special, magical night. So well worth the wait. I loved the format of the show with no opening act, a greatest hits opening set and then a cover to cover playing of White Ladder. I saw the show twice on this tour and will cherish this forever. Thank you to David Gray and this band for such a magical experience. His voice is still so pure, the music sounded exactly as recorded and they all looked to be enjoying themselves so very much. Loved every minute!
I have seen many concerts in my life and David Gray at the Greek was particularly AMAZING, AND JOYFUL. He is such a wonderful performer…….his music is genius, he dances and jumps and has so much fun on the stage, engages the audience beautifully. It was a spectacular light show with the fog rolling in. Their concert was rescheduled from May 2020 and it was more than worth the wait. 10 stars!!!!!
Phenomenal performance and music by David and the band. David was at 100%. His command of the music and smallest detail was surreal. It could not have been a better experience. So good to see Clune. Shout out to the new drummer. He was awesome throughout the show!
David Gray never disappoints- and at the Greek! Amazing! The David Bowie tribute encore was the topper! Thank you for an amazing evening.
My Hisband passed away 3 years ago , 20 years ago together we went to hear David gray in San Francisco, I loved ever song then and I loved every song Friday night I closed my eyes and could feel the love of my husband again
David Gray played all of his hits and the White Ladder album from start to finish. An outstanding show, well worth the time and cost. He played for 2 and half hours (20 minute break). The Greek is a historic venue and has upgraded their facilities (more restrooms, thank God).
David is as good, if not better, in person as compared to his album work. He and his band brought an electricity to the stage that made for a truly unrivaled experience.
What a great show. He seemed thrilled to be back performing and so was the crowd. He sounded amazing and played everything I wanted to hear!
David Gray knocked it OUT OF THE PARK! The best show i have ever attended! The Greek is the best Theater. We had pit seats but it was so good i wish we would have gotten lawn seats. It was so much fun and so much dancing.. Great job David!
Performance was amazing. His voice sounded great. Perfect in every way. Loved David and venue was awesome.
I bought the tickets to see David Gray 3 years ago and after Covid cancellations it was very special to finally get to this sweet, heartwarming concert! I love the Greek Theater in Berkeley. It’s small, intimate and has amazing acoustics. And I love David’s voice, but I never imagined just how good he would sound there. Hearing him sing in concert is like going to see a Van Gogh in person. Life changing! It was a cold and foggy night and we laughed about them making more fog on stage, but with the incredible light show that fog turned into magic! The energy of the crowd was high, everyone was so excited to be there and David played a perfect song line up to get the audience more and more involved until we were all up singing all the words to all his stunningly beautiful songs! I LOVED everything about it!
David Gray is a true professional musician. He gave us heart and soul, made us laugh and cry all in a stellar 2 1/2 hour performance. I can’t wait to see him again!!!
One of the best shows I have been to. He sounded great as always, band was good - acoustics at the Greek were great. I had a wonderful night.
David Gray is truly a remarkable artist. He sounds incredible live and not all artists do. Definitely a show worth seeing again!
From checking in to enjoy the sound check, to dancing the night away. Seeing behind the curtain was intimate and fun. The sound was bang on. Professionally executed and as clear as a recording, loved hearing the personal stories as well as singing along to the well known tunes. Very personal to many I’m sure and David and his crew certainly didn’t disappoint. Definitely memorable and will certainly come back to see him and the band again. The venue was clean, ushers were polite and well organized. Thank you to everyone for a wonderful evening. Especially Clare who greeted us upon entry and did such a great job of signing us in. Awesome stuff 👍🏻👍🏻
