  • A Feel-Good Show

by Grendelror on 11/25/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

In today's world, we all need a feel-good show. This play delivers. My only complaint is that the musical instruments sometimes were too loud, and I couldn't hear the actors/singers. Coupled with the Newfoundland accent, several times I was straining to understand what was being said. My husband said he had trouble too. I wish you could make it easier for us Californians, unused to that accent!

  • Great story. Wonderful performance by delightful cast.

This was a true story about a tragic event in human history. The small cast each member playing multiple roles did a marvelous job engaging and relating with the audience. You will experience all emotions watching this musical. Highly recommend.

Just an awesome performance. I think every Canadian should see this show. It made me so proud to be Canadian. The actors were fabulous and the way the show was put together and presented is absolutely amazing. Absolutely worth every penny. The people from Gander Newfoundland are just an amazing and should be recognized and commended for what they did.

  • Wonderful

by Janice on 10/3/24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the performance. The songs and individual performances were wonderful. The accent however was too heavy. People in Central Newfoundland don’t speak with that heavy Irish accent.

  • Amazing and inspirational!

by Jude on 10/2/24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Come from Away is a joyous, inspiring, experience! Funny, heartbreaking, thoughtful and full of life it celebrates the best in humanity. And it showcases the beauty of the people of Gander (and surrounding communities). Its music is infectious, moving and beautiful. It is a “must see” show. This was our third time seeing the show and it did not disappoint!

Having recently visited Gander and remembering 9-11 with clarity, we thought the show was really well done. Enjoyed the real people (all shapes and sizes) conveying all aspects of an incredible life experience with sensitivity and humor. Highly recommend!

  • Cone From Away

by Jay on 10/2/24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

This version of Come From Away was better than several others! Despite the actors nor being Newfies, their portrayal reflected NL at its finest. Idiosyncrasies of life in NL were woven into their performances and executed incredibly well. Well Done!

  • A Heartfelt Celebration of Newfoundland Spirit (10/10)

by Ex-Newfie on 9/30/24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

As a proud Newfoundlander, seeing *Come From Away* was an emotional experience like no other. This show captures the heart, humor, and resilience of my home province in a way that makes me burst with pride. Based on the true story of how Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed 7,000 stranded passengers after the events of 9/11, it perfectly embodies the warmth and generosity of our people. From the very first note, I was swept away by the music, which mixes Celtic influences with folk traditions, transporting me back to the rugged beauty of the island. The songs are not only catchy but filled with the kind of emotional honesty that Newfoundland thrives on—simple, yet deeply moving. The show manages to strike a perfect balance between laughter and tears. The comedy is sharp and genuine, rooted in the quirky charm of Newfoundlanders. I couldn’t help but chuckle at the familiar accents and local wit. It felt like I was sitting in a St. John’s kitchen party with friends, swapping stories and poking fun at life’s oddities. Yet, just when the audience is laughing at a joke about cod or moose, the next moment pulls on your heartstrings as we’re reminded of the immense tragedy that brought these people together. But what truly stands out is the emotional impact. This is a show about community, kindness, and compassion during one of the darkest times in recent history. As Newfoundlanders, we pride ourselves on looking after one another, and seeing that kindness play out on such a grand stage was deeply affirming. The stories of the locals and the passengers intertwining felt so true to life, capturing both the uncertainty of the time and the incredible human connection that blossomed. *Come From Away* isn’t just a musical; it’s a testament to the power of kindness, of neighbors helping neighbors, and of strangers becoming friends. As a Newfoundlander, it made me proud of where I come from. As a theatergoer, it left me moved, entertained, and filled with hope. Whether you're familiar with Newfoundland or not, this is a show that speaks to the best of humanity, and it’s one you’ll carry in your heart long after the final curtain falls. A perfect 10/10.
