This show was great. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a place to sit. I have sore feet but it was well worth it. A must see.
Been going to concerts since 1967, seen the best Led Zepellin, Jimi Hendrix, Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East amongst many more. This class act was Phenominal!!. Not only is he a pure guitarist with envigorating style, he is also a crowd pleaser, with his extra curricular activities, He's Santa bringing gifts, Bruce Lee with Nichukas, and Mr. Roboto all in one. His quick action hands mesmerized the the crowd of old and young. Played Bass better than many true bassist!!! A must see, should play here more often. He can play any venue, but should continue to stay more enjoyable, up close and acoustical venues for the personal touch.
Absolutely amazing!!!! He's such a virtuoso guitarist!!! Love the character and everything he does!!! Was 1st row and definitively an unforgettable experience!!!
Buckethead is the simplest show to watch, it's all about the string stretching shredding he does to that poor guitar. The venue was much less crowded than last time we saw him there too which made it very enjoyable.
Probably the most unbelievably amazing performance i have ever seen. His music is beautiful, he's so personable and weird, and every momment
I've seen buckethead two times previous to this show. He is an awesome guitar player. This show was horrible. The sound system buzzed and distorted. The guy on the mixer board did not have a clue. Buckethead simply turned his guitar louder to compensate for the venue. A real bad night. Where was the band? Just loops and samples. I won't bother to guy tickets again. Maybe he was better in Athens the next night.
So much fun....!!!! Amazing player who happens to entertain in many other ways. He is a superb guitar player of mad skills. He looks better than ever and his show is a non stop fun. I liked the Masquerade in Atlanta . Great audience too.
One of the best live shows I've been to!! I would recommend Buckethead to anyone that wants to have a good time.
Buckethead is staggeringly brilliant and I had been looking forward to this for a long time, but we stood for over three hours in the mosh pit before he came on; a portion of this was watching his supporting act, but with 8:00 printed on the tickets, it was rude and ridiculous to make us wait till almost 11:00 before he came on stage. I'd have given him the benefit of the doubt and assumed that there were technical problems, but no one made any announcements, and it was obvious that the set up took no time and was done "just in time." And even after he finally came on there was something wrong with the sound system (we think that Lynx - the supporting act - had the sound engineer turn up the treble and the engineer forgot to bring it back down again) which made it uncomfortable to listen to. What should have been a fantastic night turned out to be a miserable experience and we left after only 30 minutes of his performance.
If you want to see some sick guitar playing, don't be a square and see the buckethead. I have seen him a few times and it's always a good ride.
Technically astonishing; completely soul-less. Whatever the "persona" he thinks is so brilliant is all about, I don't know. I do know that, after spending $25.00 a ticket, having to wait 30 minutes between an awful opening act and him appearing (there was no equipment setup or takedown needed during that time) and then him walking off the stage without a "thank you" or an encore, I won't repeat that mistake again. Not to mention that he played with a recorded background (no other musicians present). Who know what he played or didn't play? Am I supposed to just assume?
That I haven't seen buckethead until saturday! Incredible. Music from all genres mixed in the form of guitar. Definitely a top guitar player ever. Lynx was questionable. Not an alcohol genre but may have been"groovy" if I were on drugs. Regardless buckethead is a must see
If you missed this concert you missed a pure, unadulterated genius at the guitar. He mixes elements of Slash, Clapton, and Hendrix (need I say more???) to create his own unique sound -- including numerous special effects, although at times I wished he would have veered toward a more natural demonstration of his skills -- that pays homage to these players' unquestionable talent. He also has a playfulness to his style and gives toys to the audience.
Buckethead has seemingly rocked his face off, hence the mask. And now, I may need to wear one myself as he rocked mine off Saturday night. In a word... Awesome! So much talent. His study of the guitar and his love for it clearly shine through during his playing. A great show. I don't know why more people were not there. Next time you need to make it a point. It's well worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Buckethead blew me away- he shredded through his best songs with aplomb. The venue took the entire experience to the next level, the sound was the best I've ever heard. If you get a chance to go see Buckethead here or anywhere else you should take it.
An amazing show. Ive been a fan for years so it was a dream come true to be in the front row and watch Buckethead masterfully execute stunning solos and epic dances.
Having just seen Buckethead a few weeks prior in Baltimore and being so impressed with the show, I was excited to have the chance to see him again. This review is really about 2 things; the musician and the sound at the venue he played. First the musician: Buckethead came on very late (nearly an hour after the opener- who was also a victim of the "deaf sound man"). Even a poor performance by Buckethead is way good by any standard of guitar wizardry. This venue doesn't have video capabilities, so the awesome backdrop movie "Giant Robot" couldn't be shown. Bucky seemed to be a little tired and played somewhat lackluster - compared to the show I saw in Baltimore. He only played one slower number and seemed to get obsessed with the "kill switch boogie" - at one time letting audience members "play along". Many in attendance hadn't seen him before and they were suitably entertained. Like I said, a so-so show from a master, is still way ahead of most. NOW, the total bummer of the evening was the HORRIBLE SOUND of the National ! This is not the first time I've encounter this at this venue. It seems that with an act that doesn't have their own soundman the supplied soundman doesn't really understand what a properly mixed sound is. The main culprit was too much bass and overall way too loud. When the bass subs would kick in, they were twice as loud as the overall mix, therefore destroying the sound. It seemed as, instead of turning down the bass, the mix guy turned up the rest, which yielded a mishmash of disjointed sound that was brutally loud. The mix guy didn't know how to EQ a backing track, so that didn't really sit with his live guitar as well as it could have. Sad really, because I know this venue can sound good with a talented FOH guy. I know that at the Ram's Head in Baltimore, the sound of the Buckethead show was blissful. Were I in a management position at the National venue, I would hire some competent FOH sound men and ensure that the sound was top notch for every show - regardless of the price. The sound of your venue is way too important to be trusting to inexperienced or uncaring wannabe sound technicians. By the way, I had friends who checked out the sound in various places, and they had the same experience, so it wasn't just in my location.
Dude plays amazingly fast. What a talent! It was a great show besides the long wait and short play time (came onstage at 10:50 and played till 12:10) It was a short set but incredible. A real standout to some of the mediocrity that plays at the national these days.
We found out about this concert two days before it was to happen. My husband has always been a huge fan of Buckethead and finding out he'd be here around my husband's birthday was an added bonus. And Buckethead did not disappoint. I have always enjoyed listening to his music through my husband, but seeing him live opened my eyes as to why my husband likes him so much. The man is phenomenal at playing his guitar and his stage show, while strange, was perfect. I have never heard the kind of sounds he made come out of that guitar before. It was unbelievable and I'm glad we were able to go. And not to be left to the wayside, the Altar Bar is a fabulous place. It is so cool how they were able to convert this church into a functioning bar and still keep it interesting instead of kitschy. I really enjoyed being able to see it and the space was just right to be able to see the stage. The only downside to the event was the girl who decided to get absolutely plastered, strip down to her bra and shorts and then proceed to grind on every guy within reaching distance. It would have been nice for security to take care of her as she was distracting from the show, but I guess the sight of a half naked girl is too hard to pass up, even for event security. Besides that, the concert was awesome and I would go to see Buckethead again as well as see another concert at Altar Bar.
