If you have a opportunity to see buckethead -- DON'T PASS IT UP!!! I was honored to go!!! His show was fantastic!!!! Totally worth the 12 hour round trip!
If the experience that you are after is one of musical adventure, then Buckethead is one show not to missed. From the opening act to Buckethead's performance a sense of the unusual filled the hall.
There are few shows that can make my jaw drop... and Buckethead seems to do so consistently.
Buckethead gave an awesome performance. The sound was great just loud enough for the venue. We sat in the back in the "Old Men's " section and could see and hear very well. Had to get there and get in line about an hour and a half early and sweat in line to get a couple of those rare seats but well worth it. Somebody tried to offered us $40 for our table and chairs - wasn't gonna happen. Not sure why there was so much time between the opener and Buckethead and the organizer made no announcements nor introductions which kinda sucked leaving people just milling about, maybe they had to boost the beverage sales. Anyway the reasons we went were all met as Buckethead played his ass off like a cross between Ulraman a Pantomimist and Judge Shred - nice.
BUCKETHEAD WAS AMAZING. THE ENERGY WAS CRAZY IN THERE! I WILL NEVER MISS ANOTHER BUCKETHEAD SHOW IF HE IS EVER AROUND THE DETROIT AREA AGAIN, UNTIL I DIEEEEEEEEE! BUCKETHEAD IS THE MAN. I WAS FRONT CENTER, UP AGAINST THE STAGE THE WHOLE TIME, SO THAT PROBABLY HELPED MAKE MY EXPERIENCE THAT MUCH MORE AWESOME
i saw yngvie Malmsteen and the sound was terrible way too lound and distorted, but buckethead was still loud but clear and enjoyable... good . i loved it...
Show started off really bad, concert was scheduled start at 8pm. 8:15 this guy comes out with a tuba and a mixing board. He was cool for the first two songs but then after an hour we were all praying he'd stop! After his final song he said bucket would be out in 15 min. 30 min later a guy comes and plugs in an ipod that starts playing Sci Fi sounds, after that went on for 15 min FINALLY buckethead came on stage. He was incredible, initially I didn't he would be worth the 2:30 hrs of standing in the same spot waiting, but he definitely was!
This is the 1st time seeing him so I don't have anything to compare it to performance wise,but his technique is flawless and astonishing(effortless virtuosity).The only negative comment I have to make is on the lack of a live backing band,where is it?I know this man is held with great regard in the music community and has played and been sought after by many notables.So I would think getting others to play with him would be an easy task.And this is where the enigmatic part comes in is he so eclectic that he scares others off,or is it out of simplicity and convenience?Regardless the man is an amazing talent,and I am in awe of his abilities.His stage presence is peculiar as well,robotic,giving,unique for sure.I would recommend this show to aspiring guitarists and music lovers alike.What a character!
Buckethead is my favorite guitarist and he definitely impressed this weekend in Mesa, AZ. I've never seen him live before, so it was really awesome to get the chance. Any time that he visits AZ, I'll be there to watch, and so should you!
I completely understand when big fans of some artist will give him 5 stars for a show, no matter what the show was like, but even Buck doesn't deserve it here. The opening band wasn't awful, and knowing Buck's quirky history of opening bands, was actually decent. All instrumental, good drums - bad keyboards. The main show was VERY late - it started at 9:45 and most of the audience was very annoyed. That's not what you want to do right off the bat. Secondly, the show was subpar because there was an actual band, not just a backing track that Buckethead controls himself. I have seen him play solo and there is just no comparison. YouTube "crossroads kc 2009" to see how capable of putting on a fantastic show Buckethead actually is. Lastly, it seems as if he played way too many non-songs, i.e. just messing around for a loooong time. The bass player did the same. Too many exercises in distortion as well. And what's up with the dwarf looking dude getting the crowd engaged?? All he did was stop the show dead in the tracks for about 10-15 minutes. Overall, a lot of fluff that made the show almost 2 hours long. The 2009 Crossroads concert in KC was less than 90 minutes, but I feel like I heard a lot more songs and I still listen to the bootleg of that concert almost daily!
This show was great, even though the openers kinda dragged, and there was a very long wait for the Chicken Boy to hit the stage... wait well worth it!!
They show was awesome. Buckethead is a guitar god. I was just a little bumed that he didn't do an encore.
Fantastic show. This guy is a rare talent, and a spectacular showman.
Show started at 8:00... opening group hit the stage late and sucked for a little over a half hour... then we waited... waited and waited some more for nearly an HOUR for Buckethead. Don't know if the club was just trying to sell more drinks or if he was just late, but we nearly gave up and left at 9:30. 9:45ish he finaly hit the stage, and it was a good show... not sure that it was worth the price of tickets, Ticket Master charges, price of parking, jacked up drink prices, putting up with the opening group (who had Nepolian Dinamyte on the keyboard) and the swelling of my knees from standing around waiting, and the smell of someone near me who smelt like they crapped themselfs... but it WAS a good show. We were a party of one adult, two minors and I had one Long Island Ice Tea, two Cokes and Over all cost was $115.
This was the third time I've seen Buckethead perform, but the first with a live backing band. With Bucket, you have to expect a lot of guitar wankery going in, but the band allowed for a lot more noodling than the other shows I saw. Buckethead is still an incredible guitarist, and I had a good time, but it wasn't as good as some other shows I've seen.
Buckethead is simply awe-inspiring. I can't say enough things about how incredible it was to watch such a master of the guitar from the second row. Though he took an HOUR to come on stage after the opening band, it was well worth the wait. I've never seen a crowd that transfixed by the action on stage. It was as if we were all captivated by his fantastic play style, and quirky stage presence. I'd definitely see him in concert again. Definitely.
October 2008 marked the one-year anniversary of teaching myself how to play guitar. Back in '07, Buckethead inspired me to buy a guitar and practice on it everyday. I'm still playing to this day, hoping to reach his level soon. The show was everything I could ask for. I knew every song that Buckethead played and I was so close to the stage! I left him a fan letter and a stuffed Leatherface doll onstage to thank him for inspiring me. That 1 Guy opened for him and now he's one of my favorite musicians! Buckethead gave a memorable performance that I wish I can relive again and again :)
I first witnessed Buckethead live on Governor's Island. The show was amazing, he has amazing technique and skill. Everyone has a little bit of the bucket inside of them. Everyone was super excited for him. What made it even better was that there was a really bad performer opening for him, this made it that much better when he came out. My legs hurt so much, but I couldn't care less, it was amazing.
One his great shows! Almost got him to sign my mask but my stupid sharpie didn't work! He ended up giving me a toy at the end :) Sorry for the peeps I stepped on tryin' to make it to the front lol :) Meeting him was... Majestic.
