BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • Best concert I've been to in a long time

by Hailun on 9/15/09Beaumont Club - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Small-venue is perfect for Brandi's concerts. She did a mix of old and new songs, rock and ballads, acoustic and unplugged. We had a great view, even from the cheap seats, and felt like we were part of the show. I loved it when Brandi invited all of us to sing along. The opening act was really good too. We bought their CD, which has a track featuring Brandi.

What a great show and I am so glad that KC was on Brandi's tour map this year. She sound incredible live especially when it is just her and the band singing without any instruments. I think even Brandi was surprised to see how much KC knows her music and that is a special thanks to the Bridge radio station.

  • Simply Amazing

    by Patgreenfan15 on 9/15/09Beaumont Club - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi humbly walked on stage with her band and began the concert with an a cappella performance immediately captivating the audience. It's very rare that you enjoy the new as much or more as the old, however after the concert I'm looking forward to the album release!

by XELA on 7/16/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Just very nice. The soft-to-loud voice transitions. The stories in song that she tells. You can list to this over and over. . .

  • Brandi was phenomenal!

by fijimom on 7/16/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile is so extremely talented and has a voice with a range that is unbelievable. I have seen her twice, once as the opener for Cheryl Crow in Bend, Or and then as the headliner in Portland, Or. I now have seats that are 10 rows back in her new tour in October in Portland which I can't wait to see and hear. I can't say enough good things about her music and performances. I have recommended her to all of my friends.

  • it was fannnnntastic

by colinangus on 7/15/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

she is a great performer in every sense of the word. music was great and if you did not want to have a good time, she forced you to have a great time! she was having fun and it was contagious.... renditions of Johnny Cash, Elton John and personal stories made it one of the best shows of the year. I'd gladly go back for more!

  • Brandi Carlile rocked the HOB!!

by HannahLouise on 7/15/09House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I drove all the way from South Carolina to see Brandi Carlile, so there was no doubt that I was going to have to love the show... but it was seriously the most amazing experience. The House of Blues in New Orleans was the perfect place to hear and see her. The show was so intimate and personal, almost like it was your own private concert and her band and voice filled the space perfectly. She talked to the audience a lot, telling you about not only her life but also about the members of the band and the reasons behind her songs. MOST AWESOME SHOW EVER!!! GO SEE HER!!!!

  • Brandi--flawless as always

by longistheday on 7/15/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

What an evening. Brandi and the boys were spot on. She never fails to astound me. I loved the idea of the acoustic tour. Stripped down music to the rawest form according to Brandi--I was not dissapointed. She performs with such emotion it leaves your heart aching for more. I would recommend for everybody to see her live--she is amazing.

  • Intimate was right...

by Nosemovie on 7/15/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

When your heart is spoken to, it's best to just quiet down and listen. Brandi's music takes my heart to all the places it often fears to go. But it's a journey worth the pain and tears. And then she lifts me back up again and along we go on a road that we all must travel. This is a woman with range not only in her vocal skills but in the highs and lows of the emotional world of music. The boys are wonderful accompaniment and the styles of music just floored me. Radiohead? Heck ya! Then Lennon. Beautiful. I've already secured my tickets for her October return to PDX. Like so many roared from the packed crowd that night "I love you Brandi!"

  • Brandi Carlile's voice was more spectacular live!!

by Legarfred on 7/14/09House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

I was so shocked to be in the presence of such an amazing entertainer. I was also pleased to hear how fine tuned was her vocal instrument. Her simple approach to her music leaves you craving for more. She also sang a few cover songs from some of the greatest singers and songwriters of past and present. I was astonished to hear how she was able to take their music and give those songs the renaissance they deserve.

  • Brandi carlile is super talented!

by gladi on 7/14/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I was really impressed with Brandi's voice. I had never been to see her live before, and her voice in person was even more incredible than recordings. She was very genuine, and I loved that it was acoustic, it was so raw and really set her voice apart. brandi is an amazing artist. It was so easy to tell that she loved what she was doing.

  • An Amazing performer!

by thestory on 7/14/09Aladdin Theater - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi and her band covered every emotional heartstring in one fantastically grand evening. Intimate ballads, rolling anthems and even her trademark vocal breaks were highlighted by the Aladdin's fantastic acoustics. The twins were in top form, the backing band was tight, and the mood was perfect. If ever there was a performer who should release a live album, and set it at the Aladdin, it was this show and this performer. Not just carbon copies of the studio material, but richer and better. The tastes of her new forthcoming album show that she will continue to grow in stature. Such a relief from the empty, vapid singers we are forced to endure. This one is the real deal!

Brandi Carlile is a phenomenal performer. She is charming, entertaining, and her raw talent is like none other. Brandi is truly one of the greatest performers of my generation. Don't miss her live shows!!! NO ONE has a voice as pure as hers, and listening to her live is as special as it gets. Great crowd interaction, and great set lists, too.
