BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

My wife and I had another great experience at the House of Blues for the Brandi Carlile concert. This venue has quickly become our favorite. The intimate setting allows for a great vantage point from anywhere in the room. The sound was a little off during the first song but the engineer seemed to dial it in pretty quickly. They gave us a great set and an encore that contained somewhere around 10 more songs. The twins gave us a dead on rendition of Sounds of Silence. My only complaint had nothing to do with Brandi or the venue. Behind us sat 2 women that were competing with the band to see who could be the loudest. They carried on a conversation for the entire show completely unaware of how loud they were. Several people asked them politely to take there conversation to the bar area. They assured us they would stop and did not. Astounding. Overall, a well-behaved crowd with the occasional "marry me" yelled towards the stage.

Brandi always puts on a good show and the House of Blues in Dallas is a great venue!

  • Awesome!

Show was awesome, her voice is even more amazing in person - one of a kind. Only complaint is waiting for too long between acts, and at the beginning. From 7.30 to 9.25 - opening act only played for about 40mins. The rest was just waiting. Standing only room means this is a long wait. Just start the show later or something if that's how long the opening act is going to be.... Have to say though - it was worth the wait. Once it started was fantastic.

Had a wonderful time watching Brand, Alison and the boys. They made the very intimate setting feel welcoming, and included the audience appropriately, and put on an expertly executed show. Would love for her to create some more challenging music technically.

I never thought it was possible for an artist that I love on CD to sound even better live, but that's exactly what I thought last night. Brandi (who's voice is amazing) and her band members have magnificent talent. I was blown away! Her songs are poignant and gripping and continue to move me whether acapella, unplugged, acoustic, whatever--Brandi draws you in. This concert rocked and ranks as one of my all time favorites!

Brandi has an amazing sound, and of course HOB is one of the best places to go to a concert! It was such a fun night!

  • Brandi Carlile was emaculate!

It might have taken a little too long for the show to begin, but when it did it was more than worth it. Brandi is able to entice the crowd and still perform to her utmost without letting anything go by the wayside. Overall, Brandi Carlile is one of the top musical artists of today.

  • Brandi Carlile's Moving Performance

by Scamp1010 on 3/8/10House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

With a powerful and provocative voice, Brandi Carlile rocked and moved her audience last night with the grace of a conductor, and the power of a seasoned rock n roll star. She seems to be a living legend that the rest of the world has yet to discover. Her voice lilts and surges at all the right moments, giving her a Sara McLaughlin-Roy Orbison mix that is at times shocking it is so haunting. I was completely blown away by her and also by her band. True talent doesn't need technology to enhance anything. Raw talent oozed out of every member's pores while on stage. I don't know the twins names, but their rendition of Sounds of Silence was jaw dropping, and the final encore with Brandi seated at the piano with a lone cellest, sent chills up the spines of everyone. I was amazed from start to finish.

Saw Brandi Carlile at House of Blues in New Orleans, LA on March 4, 2010. She is an amazing singer and songwriter. The show was much enjoyed. She was very well received by New Orleans. Love seeing her in a small venue. I am already looking forward to her next visit.

I was completely blown away by Brandi Carlile. This was my first time to see her live, and she far surpassed my expectations. What an incredible voice! One of the best live shows I've seen!

  • Brandi Carlile again proves to be best live act!

by MPenn on 3/8/10House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Another great show by Brandi and the band. She was very interactive with the audience...told stories, encouraged singing along. The original songs were a great mix from tear jerkers to rock-n-roll, they also threw in a few covers which added a great dimension to the show. At this show they covered Johnny Cash (which is a standard part of their sets now), Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel (a great duet by Tim and Phil Hanseroth). Great composition of the performance. If you like the sound of her recorded music, you'll love her live show(s). Brandi has a awesome voice and is a great show person.

  • Brandi is incredible LIVE!

by Anonymous on 3/6/10Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

She sounds even better live than recorded. This venue allowed an extremely personable show, and she was even able to play "Dying Day" unplugged! Amazing! Go see her TODAY!

  • Brandi was amazing!

I lived in Seattle for 4 years and never saw Brandi until is past Tuesday night in Mobile with the Indigo Girls. I have seen the Indigo Girls many many times and love them however, Brandi rocked the house and truly stood out as the best part of the night. I thought she was amazing but it wasn't until last night in New Orleans that I was blown away! Her voice is indescribable! I was awestruck. I was lucky enough to be in the front row and meet her after the show. She is very gracious. I have seen many concerts throughout the years and met many artists including Madonna but Brandi takes the cake in my book as the most original and most talented of them all.

  • Brandi Carlile was even better live!

by nonprofitjunkie on 3/5/10House of Blues New Orleans - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

This show rocked! Great venue, very pumped audience and Carlile really seemed to enjoy playing. It's rare to go to a concert the artist preforms as well as they sound on their album. With Carlile, she was even better live than any recorded song I've ever heard.. I can't wait to go see her again!

  • Brandi Carlile is absolutely amazing!!!!

by Cobo on 3/2/10Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

The only issue i had with this event was the lack of communication from the venue. I bought the tickets to the Culture Room but on the website it did not have an age limit to enter. On the website it actually says that "Age limit varies by performance" or something to that effect. I checked everywhere, i googled the number and called the Culture Room SEVERAL times and my anger increased exponentially each time i heard the voice recording stating upcoming shows and i have not to this day talked to an actual person who works there! Well i just showed up and prayed that they wouldn't check I.D.s........ Brandi Carlile and her band are so extremely talented it is almost unbelievable! They stated off the set with one of her new songs "Oh Dear". She, Tim and Phil (the twins), and drummer Allison Miller sang this song beautifully! She was extremely interactive with the audience, talking with them while introducing songs, and throwing guitar picks into the audience. She did one song completely unplugged and that is when it really hits how astounding and strong and earnest and beautiful her voice truly is. Aftrer the performance she went to her tour bus for a few minutes after letting fans know that she would be back out to take pictures and such. She came back out and took pictures with every single one of her fans who were waiting, she signed everything handed to her, and she made the effort to talk to everyone who came up to her and to let them know that she appreciated them coming out to watch the show. Basically she is amazing, down to earth, and the coolest chick on the planet!
