About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

Bonnie has timeless beauty fused with boundless talent. Taj is the embodiment of powerful mojo! The rain held off and the atmosphere at the venue was blissful.

  • Bonnie still the best!

Bonnie is so hot the stage warms in respect. A voice of the ages and man, what a guitar she can play. Mix in a bit of Taj, some great horns, versatile music and you've got the BEST SHOW OF THE SUMMER!!

Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal, two masters of the blues, turned Celebrate Brooklyn into a nightclub. It was a great show. Bonnie was in good voice and looking beautiful. Taj rocked out. The affection and respect between these two veterans of the music scene was genuine and infectious.I A wonderful night.

  • Venue great, show pretty good

Bonnie Raitt put on a good show. I enjoyed listening to her- her guitar playing was great and her singing was pretty amazing. Listening to her sing "i can't make you love me" was the highlight for me. When Taj Mahal joined her on stage the place was rockin. You can't beat the venue- it was a cool evening, the air was sweet, the crowd was into it and the beers were cold. Happy days.

  • Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal still rock

by pksmama on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing concert! These two have the most distinct and awesome voices around - and have prevailed after all these years - it's downright inspiring! It was a perfect pairing of talent & energy. Bonnie's voice has grown a bit raspy w/age - yet her gut-wrenching solo I Can't Make You Love Me, showed off her sweet and pitch-perfect voice - & reminded us that she's still got it, & is not afraid to use it. Her deference to Taj & band members, spoke to her willingness to share the spotlight, acknowledge the talents of others, & play music collectively, reminded me of why I love her. From her playful banter w/the audience, to her awesome slide-guitar-playing, to the wonderful duets w/Taj - she gave it her all. A generous performer, with class & style - this was the best concert I've been to in recent memory.

Still has the voice, the look, the amazing performing persona! Last saw her at Studio 54 20 years ago, and she was just as hot.

Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie.... the Queen of Moisture with only one set change (the lady's got a self-deprecating sense of humor) . It was some hot and humid night, and I am grateful it did not rain on her and the bands and crews. How to put into a few words the gift she put out there for us? On the way home, I thought to myself that she made me feel 20 years old again. I felt sexy and energetic. She made me dance to the rhythms like days of old. When I got home and looked in the mirror, Reality Check: "Wow, I look much older than I feel!" (I'm 59.) You want details on the music? I am sure someone will post of list of all the songs. Bonnie Raitt is a professional and knows what to do. With a wave, a nod, a guitar gesture, she queued the group to excellence. All you have to do is relax and go along for the ride. What a ride. It was a grand tour of music spanning her life's work: a collage of emotions and energies. We couldn't thank her enough. That guitar, that voice, that gracious hostess repeatedly acknowledging and thanking the members of her band and the crews. One of the most memorable songs, due to its sudden intimacy, was "I Can't Make You Love Me" in which she sat in the spotlight and serenaded a hushed and rapt audience. Ending with an electric piano lament, It was lovely. Her encore, a mini-concert in itself, incorporated Taj Mahal, who had opened the show. I really did not know Taj Mahal, and he joked about the fact that he is not well known. With the brass and Taj's energy and expressiveness, the earthy blues they put out to close the show was a special treat unique to a live concert. The audience was rocking, writhing, jumping and hooting it up. I left full to overflowing. Thank you, BonTaj. Please do make this an annual event... for all of life's ups and downs, we need BonTaj Roulet.

  • That girl can rock

The show was amazing! Bonnie's voice commanding the nightime air was an unforgettable experience. First time seeing Taj live, what a great combination. Looking forward to many Bontaj's in the future.

Bonnie and her band are in great shape, incredible new keyboardist - and the Taj Mahal collaboration is a natural. I love them both. Watching Taj Mahal dance would make DIck Cheney feel better, if he had any feelings.

  • Bontaj Muy Bien!

I have seen Bonnie many times since 1971. She always gives the audience 100%. She is personable and speaks to the audience as though we were hanging out in her living room. Taj Mahal went on at 7 PM- he is an awesome bluesman. I've seen him several times before as well. Then Bonnie came on- what can I say? Her voice is spectacular- she plays bluesy slide guitar amazingly. Her rendition of "Angel from Montgomery" blew everyone away. I just love watching and listening to her. The band was great- I especially enjoyed the keyboards and guitar-wow. Then, the show went from great to amazing when both Taj and Bonnie did a set together. It's a great combination. His rough deep bluesy vocals with her clear crisp melodic vocals rocked. The show went on until after 10 PM. We definitely got our money's worth of fun. I wished it would never end.

  • Bravo Bonnie

by SoLucky76 on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie keeps getting better, more beautiful, and more insightful. I have loved this woman's talent since the first time I saw her back in Mpls. in the 70's. When she came out with Taj last night to do that final set, the whole audience was on their feet, I was dancing in the aisle, and never wanted it to end. Bonnie is in a league of her own!!! Bravo!!!

  • Bonnie rocked!

What a great night. Under the trees with Bontaj. Taj started off the night before sunset but he was no opening act. The duet he did with his daughter was beautiful. Then Bonnie came out and really got the place to its feet. She pulled from years of unforgettable albums. Transitioning from rock to her moving ballads. Taj joined her at the end and played my favorite, "She Caught the Katy." All and all, a beautiful night in Brooklyn. Thanks!

Love Bonnie and she never disappoints. Her voice is as rich as ever. Taj was great and together they were fabulous. It was a great time full of soul and rock. Love the smallish venue.

  • Bonnie keeps on rockin!!

by sb4blend on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I first heard Bonnie Raitt in 1976 and then soon after saw her in concert. Now here I stood with my 10 & 8 year old children watching her on stage in Prospect Park and feeling like I was back in '76!! She just keeps us rockin and amazed at her musical talents. Her command of the stage and audience is a beautiful thing. You can tell she is having a hell of a good time and is happy to share these moments with us. Bonnie Raitt is a timeless musician that reminds of us what great music is all about.

  • Bon Taj Roule Was Great!!!

    by KMan007 on 8/13/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

The coupling of Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raiit was a superb blend of styles. Bonnie's contribution was reminiscent of her old R&B music and it was obvious that they both really clicked. Fantastic concert. She did play some of her pop music which I guess she had to do to appease some of the audience, but it was the old style music which made it happen for me.

  • Could not hear Bonnie's guitar.

by billmweber100 on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

It amazes me that sound men sometimes only listen to their monitors. I counted 8 times the Bonnie Raitt asked that they bring up the level of her guitar.Nothing ever happened. This is a shame because the rest of the sound was superb. But it kind of misses the point. Her's was the only instrument you could not hear clearly. That aside, this was an excellent concert.

  • Loved BonTaj!

Prospect Park Bandshell was a great venue and both Taj and Bonnie sounded great! If you like blues music, you'll LOVE this show.
