About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • Bonnie Raitt is ageless!

by crazymofomama on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

For over 3 hours, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal rocked the Mann with the best Blues I have ever heard. She did "Angel from Montgomery" and "I can't make you love me" to overwhelming crowd response. Taj played "Queen Bee" and many others, changing instruments with almost every song. He played banjo, guitar, bass, keyboards, harmonica, and more. They played some of their best stuff together, with the whole crowd on their feet.

Absolutely magical. Bonnie is in top form and Taj Mahal is a gifted musician. All in all a wonderful show. My husband gave up tickets to see Bonnie Raitt 7 years ago because he was asked to babysit when a grandchild was born. I've been waiting ever since to get him tickets again and finally !! Great show - can't wait to see her again. Great bands as well.

by Gailbo on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Been going to her concerts for close to 40 years and she is still fabulous. What a great musician/singer and humanitarian!!! Loved the solo stuff and also loved her joint efforts with Taj Mahal. Bonnie knows how to pick them!!! The crowd was on its feet and enjoying every bit of it and so was I. We love you Bonnie!!!

  • Together was incredible

by BonTajfan on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The show opened with a set from Taj and the Phantom Blues Band. It was a well chosen set mixing tunes from his early 1960s days to the more current. The energy was incredible, the band was tight yet loose enough to appear to be having fun. Bonnie came out with her band and played a really great mix of her tunes as well as great blues and R&B from others. She brought out the sax and trumpet players from Taj's band for a few numbers before Taj came out for a few numbers with Bonnie's band. The energy really went up for these. Bonnie finished her set and brought the whole Phantom Blues Band out to join hers. The set that follows was one of the best Blues/R&B sets I've seen over 40+ years. All said, it was a great show all fans of blues and R&B.

Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal brought their A game to the Mann last night. They make amazing blues individually and especially together. It was over 3 hours of hand clapping, foot stomping good times.

  • Raitt was all Raitt

by holty on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The cool evening breeze was a prelude to what was to come. The show was COOL. Bonnie was on top of her game, her voice was as strong as ever and her musical selections, and slide guitar revved-up the crowd. It was good to see Bonnie's followers still swaying, clapping and dancing to her rhythms. The show ended too soon but Bonnie and Taj came back on stage and ROCKED the house for another half hour. Fantastic!!

bonnie was in great form, as good as ever, and the interaction between Taj Mahal and Bonnie was great and didn't seem at all forced.

Bonnie alone is unforgettable and classic. Her pairing with Taj Mahal shouldn't be missed!

  • Binnis and Taj...good show

by LawCF on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

We have senn Bonnie before and she seems to get better the older she gets. She really seemed to enjoy herself. Taj was a great partener and the jam sessions were entertaining....Bonnie played for nearly two hours! I could do without the liberal politics but the music was great.
