About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • BonTaj Roulet - Mann Center Phila. 8/8/09

by Tobo on 8/12/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

GREAT SHOW! Taj is on top of his game, leaning heavy on his new album, Maestro, but still digging deep into his archives. Bonnie was as spectacular as ever! First she brought out Taj's Texacali horns to help her on a few numbers, great touch to the band. Then She & Taj did a sit-down acoustic set touching on real chestnuts. the highlight was the finale with both bands on stage whipping through blues & R&B standards. Thoroughly entertaining evening with 2 of the masters of their trade!!

One o fth ebest concerts I have been to ever. The jamming with Taj Mahal and his band was spectacular. These folks are firs rate musicians and perfomers. They know their stuff and make music such a joy and pleasure to be around. I forgot all my troubles and felt like I was in heaven listening to the licks and melodies of Bonnie Raitt. Long love Bonnie and her musical style. An original and a awesome singer and guitar player.

  • BonTaj was quite impressive

    by LCB1 on 8/12/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I was very happy to have teh opportuniity to see Bonnie Raitt. I had seen Taj Mahal before but was very impressed with his diverse instrumental and vocal talents. I would recommend this show to anyone who enjoys a good show that is not too loud with excellent content.

  • Bonnie Raitt was great

The entire musical presentation was first class. The stage lighting was also very pleasing to the eye.

  • Lookin better than playin

by AwesomeBob on 8/11/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

I love Bonnie but was disapointed with the BonTaj Roulet show. Her silver lining show (the last time I saw her) blew this away. There were no standout solos from any of the musicians except maybe the keyboards in her band. The duets between Bonnie and Taj were tired and lacked excitement. They should probably put this one to bed.Bonnie sure looked great her playin suffered it seemed as though she couldn't get comfortable with her instrument because she change guitar every song. What was that all about? I still love her but I think I need more Bonnie not less, and I'll read some reviews before buying tickets to a show like that.

  • Couldn't be Better!

    by c57black6j on 8/10/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

What a combination, BonTaj. Everything was there. Rock, Bonnie's pop hits, some jazz, and blues of every description. Just watching Bonnie go from bottle-neck to electric to acoustic to vocal with just a sparse accompaniment. Reminded me of why she is such an American icon.

  • BonTaj ROCKS

Great concert. Bonnie is amazing, Taj is crazy-good. We loved it. I only wish some of the fans could manage to bring good manners with them to events like this.

  • what a show, got my money's worth!

by Mortimersnerd on 8/10/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

non stop music for over three hours! Taj was great, bonnie was even better, so much energy and what a guitar player, one of the best concerts I was ever at.

  • BonTaj tour

by DeaJa on 8/10/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

It is refreshing to hear a female blues player. Her style with the steel slide adds the unique sounds to her music. Of course Taj is always a soul getter.

  • Excellent night

by MCahill on 8/10/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The Mann Center is a perfect location. Great acoustics, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty to eat and drink. The show was outstanding. Bonnie and Taj played separate sets and came together for great duets and the finale. Bonnie’s voice was clear and her guitar licks are as excellent as ever. Taj is tireless with his great voice and excellent lyrics. I am sure the tour will be enjoyed by all. The combination of the two supporting bands brought the house down.

  • Bontaj Roulet

by Bindiboo on 8/10/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Although we enjoyed being in Philly, the outdoor setting of the Mann Center, the mellow crowd, and our excellent seats, we were disappointed with the concert in that it was too much Taj Mahal and too little Bonnie. Granted, it was only their 2nd performance on this tour but we've seen Bonnie before (at the Beacon) when she spent a lot of time introducing bluesy guests and doing their music. We prefer Bonnie Raitt all by herself. We have been a Bonnie Raitt fan for over 35 years. We really wanted to hear her songs, especially some of the oldies like "Love Has No Pride."

  • Oh to Jam with Bonnie

by Mistletoe on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was the fifth time I have seen the fabulous Ms. Raitt and God willing it will not be last. I heard some first timers grumbling that she did not do this and that song and I can appreciate that, but this was an awesome show. This is the kind of show seen in a downtown blues club. It was jamming and deeply blue. I greatly appreciate the jams and the songs that I have not heard her do live. I personally do not go to concerts in hope of hearing 'the record'. I LOVE hearing other tunes and familiar tunes done somewhat, and even drastically, differently. I believe that Bonnie said that it was the second show in the tour which leaves room for some improvment in regard their 'getting tight' with one another. The music was incredible and the weather just made it that more wonderful.

  • Very odd, unsatisfying show

by MusikFan on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

I purchased the tickets to this show early: shortly after they went on sale. Although we live in central Maryland, I was not concerned about the 2-hour drive to Philadelphia: I figured we'd make a day of it. I have long been a Bonnie Raitt fan, and I wanted to also introduce my daughter, who is an aspiring guitarist/songwriter, to her. We go to a lot of concerts and they have been predominantly male acts, so I thought that Bonnie Raitt would be good for her to see. I do not think that the blending with Taj Mahal was handled smoothly at all. The choreography between the two acts was very awkward and did not flow smootly. Taj opened and did a mixture of blues, calypso, and other styles that I did not expect. His blues numbers were exceptional, the others significantly less so. He played a 50-minute set, which I thought was about right for an opening act. Bonnie was great, but she did not play several of her more popular songs and that was a disappointment. After her set, she and Taj got back to gether for a few more numbers and it just felt awkward and wrong. I think the who show was all over the map and lacked focus. One final note that adds to the oddness of the evening: After Bonnie's too-short set, she left the stage following the typical concert formula: leave, crowd stands for an encore, artist comes back. In this case, however, she left and ONE THIRD OF THE AUDIENCE got up and left too! It was bizarre. She came back, only to see all these people leaving en masse. It was so shocking, she actually was moved to plead "don't leave," although leave they did. We stayed, still hoping for the rest of her act, but it never came...

  • Let's give them something to talk about is my fav.

    by Whatever1 on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie was incredibly great, along w Taj, and the 5 piece band on stage blew us away. We loved that she mentioned Phila. spots, such as 'the Main Point', and other venues. It was the perfect night for an outdoor concert w a great breeze blowing through. Oncore, Oncore!

  • BonTaj Roulet ...ssssmokin'

by tompen on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

It was raw.It was sweet. It was hot and jumping. The show opens with Taj backed by the fabulous Phantom Blues Band. They kill for about an hour. Then Bonnie and her band come and blow it up. Sprinkle in a little Bonnie and Taj 'blues summit' during her set. Then for the finale both bands play together...let me make it clear... THEY PLAY TOGETHER. It's not a mish mosh of a bunch of performers trying to be heard . It is twelve musicians just makin musical magic. Bonnie's voice was crisp, clean, and strong. Taj was awesome. If you only see one concert this year...If you've gone to ten concerts this year...do yourself a favor and go to see this one. They will not disappoint.

  • This duo was made for each other. A must see event

by darkeyes on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

bonnie raitt never sounded better, and with Taj Mahal it seem to take both of them to an even higher level of performance. The energy and enjoyment that both of them displayed by playing together made each and every part of the show beyond compare. A fantastic night hearing two greats!!

  • Bonnie and Taj were great together .

    by Dave122 on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Phili was the second stop of the tour. It seemed that both bands were working our the kinks. Taj opened and did a great job opening. Bonnie hit the stage in good voice. Her guitar got better as the night went on. Both bands hit the stage for the last hour and rocked!

  • bonnies blues

    by dee49 on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

I saw Bonnie Rait a few years back at the Mann Music Center and really enjoyed the show. This time around there were several songs I did not recognize, since I have not really listened to her music as of late. What I really wanted to hear was more of her older songs, but besides that fact, I found the show enjoyable since she is a great performer.

  • What's better than Bonnie?!?

by Hairem on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

OMG!! The only thing better than Bonnie Raitt is Bonnie Raitt jamming with Taj Mahal! Absolutely perfect pairing.

  • BonTaj - memorable

by moleyzyx on 8/9/09The Mann Center - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

An awesome performance and some what historic. The tribute to Blues patriarch Robert Johnson with the performance of Walking Blues had me realize how fortunate I am to witness this collaboration. if you are still deciding to see this tour and you love the blues, Bonnie and Taj, don't delay!
