About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • BON TAJ ROULET....... BIG UP

by GRATEFUL4 on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Inspite of the fact that I've seen both performers, independently , on numerous occasions this was a rare and delicious treat!!!!! The blending of styles, harmonies, musical expertise, stage persona and musical histories gelled wonderfully together. With each musician being thorughly accomplished in their own right....what else could you and would you expect!!!!! When the lights went down and the "train" left the station with energetic motion and kept on building steam right up to the house lights returned and the house music began to play, signalling the conclusion of an evening you wanted to last until dawn,,,, and even that would have been toooooooo soon! Way to many magical moments......Please go and see for yourself!

  • Wow Factor

by Newcustomer on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Went for Taj Mahal and he was great in the intro - Then Bonnie came out and had so much feeling in the music you felt like you were in her living room. But when they came together that was the real treat, Story telling blues and rhythm that ousted our expectations.

by Musicmaria on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Bonnie Raitt once before and she is always amazing. She played her top songs, but this concert was made more fun by the combination of these two amazing performers and I loved the selection of old blues numbers they played. Wow.

Bonnie and Taj were perfect together as their title states. They were amazing with style! Thanks for a great time!

I've seen both separate for 30 years, but put the two together and you create magic. What a nite !

  • Bonnie Raitt was better than ever!!

by ultrasue on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Bonnie in concert before, but this time she was better than ever!! She had more energy and sang with more emotion than I have seen previously. And adding Taj Mahal to the mix was amazing. He was fun to hear and see!

  • Boonie was outstanding

by schmoker17 on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Bonnie was outstandingas usual, what a great venue for her. I thought the sound was great but sightlines from the main floor could have been a little better. Taj was ok, they needed to turn down the bass for his sets. Overall, another great concert by Bonnie.

  • I love Bonnie!

by MikeyLikesIt on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie showed me again why she's the best. Raw emotion. Fabulous vocals. Great guitar play. This was her first show in MN since the death of her brother (he lived here) and being on the Fair stage brought up the pain. She channeled that pain into the blues and gave a great performance. A great moment was her acoustic slide work with Taj on the Mississippi John Hurt song. Classic. Taj is classic in his own right. The Phantom Blues Band is excellent. Great horns!

  • Bonnie and Taj Rock the Fair!!

This show was biblical!! Sound was a little off for Taj but show was awsome!!

The show was spectacular - laughing one minute, crying the next. the musical talent of both groups was over the top and together even more powerful.

by kjerom on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

By themselves great, together they were amazing. They played a heavy blues guitar duet near the middle of Bonnies set that blew me away and the ending was equal. Taj you haven't lost a thang and Bonnie you are the rooster.

  • She's still got it!

by Babystar on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Months from her 60th birthday, and a few months after her brother's passing, Bonnie Raitt showed the opening night crowd in the Minnesota Grand Stand that she's still got it. Never one to disappoint, Raitt proved herself to be the consummate performer despite whatever personal struggles she may have. She dedicated her performance to her brother Steve and honored his longtime friend Ricky Peterson, a keyboard player touring with her, as they rocked out together. Singing old favorites like Something to Talk About and Nick of Time, and mixing it up with a song most of us had never heard before from the album Taj Mahal produced in 1973, a calypso flavored tune which advises that women can cheat just as well as men. Raitt and Mahal appeared to be letting the good times roll (The BonTaj Roulet) as they each performed alone and later a mixture of his and her songs.

  • Bonnie ooozes talent

by RockinInTheFreeWorld on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Not only does she play a mean slide guitar and have a voice like an angel, her live shows get better every time she walks onstage. This is the fourth time we've seen her. Having Taj Mahal join her on this tour is awesome. Part of Ms. Raitt's brilliance is that she surrounds herself with outstanding musicians. She and Taj Mahal played about three hours total with one short intermission.

  • Beautiful evening of music.

by serenityk88 on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 4 out of 5

It was a beautiful night at the state fair. Taj Mahal got us groovin. Bonnie stunned us, as always. Sentiment was abundant for Steve. And then the final set got us up dancing. Angel from Montgomery had the audience in tears. Thank you, Bonnie.

  • BonTaj Roulet= Perfect Companions!

These two individually are fantastic in concert, but mix 'em together and it was a great spicy, fun and soulful event! You will love this concert if you get the chance to go!

What can be better than Taj and Bonnie! I have seen Taj Mahal many times, but this was my first time seeing Bonnie Raitt. What a wonderful night. (Even being a Tuesday.) We had great seats, surrounded by great people. We had a great spread of food and a great bottle of wine. The weather couldn't have been better. I could have listened to those two rock all night! One of many GREAT shows I've seen.
