About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • The Bontaj ruled!

by Babydoc on 8/30/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Taj may be a bit older but no less sexy and his voice as deep as the ocean and as cool as a Kauai stream. Bonnie's voice alone can bring you to tears it is merges the sweet & light with an irresistable melancholy. The two together hit the mark completely!

Taj Mahal - great. Bonnie is sexy & sassy... was hoping to see more of her Blues stuff (not the 80's "Pop" stuff). She seemed subdued & too much on the mellow/sentimental side at this show.

  • BonTaj Roulet Amazing

Long time fan of long time musicians thinks their performance was very fun and very comfortable. They both seemed very much at home with each other. The weather was beautiful. the venue was great and the sound was clear. It was just wonderful!

  • BonTaj Roulet was fabulous!!

by ricdak on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the entire show. Bonnie can really sing and play the gituar and Taj Mahal is nothing but class!! This was our first time to a grandstand show since it's been remodeled and it could be our last. The seats were the worst!!! They tipped down in front so you had to brace yourself with your feet or you would have slid right on the floor. We also had obstructed view seats without being told ahead of time. We were in the second row/center section of the bleacher seats which would have been perfect but they put up an awning to cover the sound board which blocked our stage view. This was very disapointing!!

  • Bonnie Raitt/Taj Mahal Emotional

by Kimmer22 on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Bonnie Raitt at the Fair a few times now and this was her best concert by far! She was especially warm and chatty and funny. Her emotions were running high and it all came out in her music. Wonderful, beautiful, talented musician. Taj was a lot of fun and the two of them banter together often and well. Very enjoyable evening.

  • Bonnie Raitt was moving!

Bonnie Raitt is always awesome in concert! Her dedication of the concert to her brother was meaningful and you could tell she was grieving this loss. Bonnie and Taj Mahal together were amazing and as always a display of true talent!

  • Great show

by Gags on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The sound system was incredible ! The tunes were all great. Both bands were at the top of their game. Mike Finnegan [keyboards in the Phantom band] and Bill Peterson were outstanding. Taj and Bonnie were right on. Bonnie made Steve proud. FABULOUS show. Thank you Bon/Taj !! Who did the sound ???

  • BonTaj - A "Memorable" Incredible Show!

by BasketGal on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Not only was the show terrific as usual, but the personal moments made the show extra special. For an old guy, Taj Mahal rocked! Great band, terrific songs and the synergy with Bonnie was remarkable. Loved the variety of songs, loved the twists she added in her favorite songs. You could feel her pain as she remembered Steve and played songs in honor of the friends and family that helped him through to his death. It was heartfelt, touching and terrific. The crowd was supportive and, as usual, I know she could feel the love back! She is an incredible woman, has obvious respect for her band and was well matched with Taj!

  • Bonnie Rocked the House

by tcjammer on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Spectacular is the only word that comes to mind when I replay the Bonnie Raitt/Taj Mahal concert in my head. I have done so many times since it's conclusion, and I will continue to have those soulful musical memories for the rest of my days.Taj and Bonnie were the perfect compliment to one another. I could actually feel the downhome blusiness of Taj's solo set. inside my bones. The respect and admiration they obviously have for one another on a persional as well as professional level came through the music during the sets they shared. But it was Bonnie's grief tinged solo sets that made this event so special. Her voice almost giving way on a couple of occasions highlighted the vulnerability of this gifted human being, pouring her heart and soul out , in honor of her beloved late brother, Steve. Bonnie, thank you. All of us should receive such a tribute! Plus, when she put "all sadness aside", she rocked the house down!!!!

  • Taj Mahal Bonnie Raitt

by Seiftim on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 4 out of 5

great show. Taj Mahal is still the best showman out there. When Bonnie Raitt comes out it's all fun and great music.

  • Bonnie is always beautiful!

by jkb1988 on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The three hour event started with the masterful blues of Taj Mahal. You don't have to be a blues fan to appreciate this groups performance. After a short intermission, Bonnie took the stage. Her voice is just incredible live and my wife and I wished she could have sang all night. Bonnie knows how to connect with the crowd and deliver a superb performance. During Bonnie's set Taj Mahal did join her for a few songs and then at the end of the concert they both joined up to close out the show. You won't want to miss this show! I have loved Bonnie since 1973!

Her performance was emotional and you felt it in the music. It was the best live performance I have seen from Bonnie; and yet they have all been good.

by annette22joy on 8/29/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I felt so many emotions during the concert. Bonnie showed her love and tenderness when speaking of her late brother. She also captivated the audience with her wit and attitude. She is so talented. Taj Mahal is a perfect compliment to Bonnie. I enjoyed every minute of it.

  • BonTaj was great!!!!!

by smithe2 on 8/28/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Loved it! Was the response I received, I purchased the tickets online for b-day presents for my parents. They came home from it last night and raved about how great it was. Both would go again in a heartbeat. Only downside I heard was that they didn't play enough of the "old stuff".

  • Ah, Bonnie, God bless you sweetie

Individually, there were two hot bands. When they combined them for a seamless third set it just got hotter on a cool summers night at the Minnesota State Fair. The audience was definitely in tune with the spirit.
