About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • Bontaj Roulet was awesome!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was everything we expected and more! I have seen Bonnie Raitt at Red Rocks in the past. She changes up her shows so that I never hesitate seeing her in concert repeatedly. I had never seen Taj Mahal, but they added a dimension to her concert that we adored.

  • Chasing the Blues Away at the Rocks

by RedRocking on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

It had been a day filled with scattered showers. As the 7:30 show time approached, the clouds began to slowly clear. The sign of a great evening ahead. As the tour name states - Alone and Together, Taj Mahal and The Phantom Blues Band took the stage first and got the crowd going. Taj has a wonderful way of connecting with the crowd, both with his music and conversation. Now that the clouds completely cleared - because the winds had really picked up - and the moon was shining down on Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Bonnie Raitt and three of her long-time bandmates and the new addition of Ricky Peterson, took the stage. Last night's performance was a real treat for Bonnie Raitt fans. Not only did they perform many songs from Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw, but Ms. Raitt also shared with us her great gift by presenting new interpretations of the songs. I know many people want to hear the songs the way they are on the albums, but these are the moments we get to see and hear an artist grow and change with their body of work. Her standing ovation rendition of Nick of Time, Angel from Montgomery, and the set ending - I Can't Make You Love Me were all beautiful, of-the-moment performances. To paraphrase Ms. Raitt, "There wasn't anything that could follow my last song, but what is coming up next." She wasn't kidding! Now for the "Together" part of the concert. Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal and both of their bands took the stage and brought us back up with Calypso and Reggae, some blues jamming and Taj Mahal taking the vocal lead on Gnawin' On It. The steel slide and guitar duet by Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal was just too much fun - because it was obvious this is a long-time friendship of two great musicians who want to share their craft and their love of music with all of us. Those of you with a ticket it in your hand for this concert are in for a very special evening.

  • Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal turn Red Rocks Blue!

by stonejam on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal performed exaclty how you would expect two American Music Icons to perform. Brilliant, focused, and fun. Bonnie and Taj also brought a bag of suprises, that as funny as it sounds, was expected (expected suprises, you say?!). Well, the types of suprises that can only be expected when you are a fan watching, listening, and anticipating entertainment from two artists that are synonomous with the saying 'sure thing'. Two seperate performers, with intertwined careers, and on this night, playing solo and together. What else do you need to have a good time enjoying roots blues, with a heavy dash of sass, and a groove that would make you stand up and dance? Encores, would be nice, and they delivered to much the crowds delight, there to boot! Blues music in its finest form. Great artists that truly love what they do, because they truly 'are' the art form that they 'do'. It looks effortless, but you know that is only because they are the 'sure thing' of 'blues'!

  • Bontaj phenomenal!

    by ilvmym8 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

When are they coming out with a CD?!? The show was fantastic, both artists are so unbelievably talented. Bonnie's voice was so clear and beautiful, her guitar playing blew my mind... She acknowledged the difficult financial times and thanked the audience for attending.

  • Great Performance

by bigaldepr on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great performance on the part of both Taj and Bonnie given the weather conditions. Taj played a wide variety of music showing his diversity. Bonnie stuck with her most popular songs which the crowd loved and well that was the reason we went anyway. There was lots of interplay between the musicians that created a real party atmosphere.

  • great showmanship

by darw on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. Do wish she sang her backbone song. Also did think the last 3\4 songs of the evening with Taj Mahal were weak for their standards.

  • The coolest rock-chick on the planet

by cpgator on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen Bonnie many times over the last 35 years and she always puts on a great show. This one was no exception. Bonnie's guitar playing was as cool as always, and her voice was in fine shape. She and Taj really had a great time, and the music was awesome. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because her solo set was short and she did not play as many of her older tunes as I would have liked. (But in all the times I've seen her I've never seen her play "Wah She Go Do," so that was cool.) But this was a different type of show, and the playing, singing and the general vibe was just great.

  • Bonnie with Taj Mahal was an excellent venue

by NickL on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Bonnie Raitt at Red Rocks four times now. Listening to her perform with Taj Mahal was by far the best.

  • Ageless

by Saula on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Last evening two consummate artists and their bands shared an evening of emotional depth and musical invention that sets the standard. This knowledge and these skills settled into our bones and allowed our souls the freedom to sing, dance, and share our love of music. The audience was ecstatic and people felt, between the exquisite setting and the music on the stage, that we were exactly where we were meant to be. You sensed infinite possibilities for the world with Bonnie's words and the creativity born of faith in themselves, the power of music, and live performance. What a gift we received!

  • So great!

by OkieInCO on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

First, they were incredible. Classy, classy, classy. Second, probably the best value in concerts out there! And part of the proceeds still went to charity. They each did individual sets, Bonnie invited some Taj Mahal band members to come out and play with her, then they she and the entire Taj Mahal band came out and played together. At the end, we counted 12 band members on stage. Wow! They even had played a few sets with both drummers!! What a great concert. If they could have only done something about the bone-chilling wind that kept sweeping through Red Rocks! :-)

  • Bon Taj was excellent in every way! Totally great

by Darie on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

I loved how comfortable everyone was on stage together. The sax player was fantastic and the combination of Bonnie and Taj was excellent in every way. Together and alone should not be missed.

  • Bonnie and Taj blew it away!!!

by Muggling on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

They started out in a pretty good Wind Storm, but blew that wind back into submission!! A most inviting and invigorating concert!!! I danced all night!!

  • Bontaj was awesome!

    by Luv2rock2 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Unbelieavable band. Good sync. She sang great. Still has it. Taj was fun and loved his personality in his songs.

  • The vibes continue...

by Godard on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

One helluva performance. A great performance by great performers. Well balanced in selection, sequence and show timing. The show was obviously expertly mixed for sound quality...not a single twanger or feedback overload heard in the crowd with good volume front to back, The stage was clean, simple and highlighted the bands. The crew was obviously ready for anything considering how quickly the stage sprung to life even in the inclement weather. Mother nature did her part to clean and cool the air before the show but seemingly warmed up as the night went on. The senior in our group, a blues lover who turns 69 today, could do nothing but tap his toes and say "what a great show" all the way to bed last night. Too much fun!!!

  • BonTaj was stunning and touching!!

    by mountainman60 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen both Bonnie and Taj for nearly 40 years, I anticipated a great concert. The concert not only exceeded my wildest expectations, it showed why both of these people have lost nothing through the years and deserve all the accolades they have received. Taj was high energy and great, Bonnie alternated between the ballads that have made her famous and some of the dirtiest slide guitar you will ever hear. The kicker, however, was the acoustic set they did together. Wow. Unforgettable.

  • Bonnie Raitt

by DiannaWilson on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie Raitt was as beautiful and awesome as always! She Rocks like no other!

  • BONTAJ ROULET WAS TERRIFIC!

by ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVXY on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this show. It had a wonderful mix of nostalgia, sweetness, and drive. Hope that it returns in a similar form.

  • Bonnie Raitt: Ms. Charisma

by Carloincitta on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The shear force of personality of Bonie Raitt is enough to carry almost any venue. After all these years, she is still terrific. My favorite part of the show though was the low key "club" blues that she sung along with Taj Majal with very little (sometimes none) of the backup musicians. What a great evening!

  • SuperShow!

by albertp on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Bluesy rock at its best. Bonnie just keeps getting better and better and Taj was never better. They were made for each other.
