About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • Excellent Performance Despite the Cold

by Relaxed on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

We had an excellent time at the concert. It misted prior to the event, but ended before we got to the seating area. Also, a brisk wind blew through about 2/3's of the performance which made it fairly chilly. It had to be difficult at times for the artists playing their guitars with cold fingers and the wind in their faces. Red Rocks is a great place for concerts and Bonnie and Taj put on an excellent show.

  • Under the stars with Bonnie and Taj

by SaphireRose on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was pure medicine for me. AWESOME is an understatement!! My experience is personal and highly biased; Bonnie crashed into my personal life in 1991 with "I cant make you love me" and catapulted me out of some very deeply rooted delusions and a failing marriage... in effect she liberated me and saved my soul... She may never understand the power of that song and the magic that it has continued to offer my soul whenever I fall back down into that old delusion... Many years later she came storming in again with "I will not be Broken" once again offering magical power to me in a time of great trepidation and uncertainty.... affirming my strength, and restoring my faith in my own personal power to preserve my freedom and integrity. Live music is always an incredible experience especially with an artist that you have a particularly deep connection with. And if the venue is nice then it's pure spiritual gold. Two of my most critical life passages were marked and sustained by the brilliance of Bonnie the blues goddess ... this show was for me like returning to some very special place in my life... and Red Rocks is by far and away one of the finest live music venues on the planet. The seating and views (both skyline as well as stage) are breathtaking. Even when the gods don't offer up great whether and the snow is blowing in, the place is so magical that the experience is simply phenomenal enough to stay and just enjoy. And most folks do!! Both Bonnie and Taj are legends in their own right and having them together was such a sweet treat. The sound system, the crowd, the weather, the night sky... Both performers and their bands... it was all perfect... I laughed and cried, danced and swayed, and truly felt the power... of just how meaningful and necessary creative souls are to the healing of our lives... individually as well as collectively... Thank you Bonnie... for being.

  • Bonnie Rocks Red Rocks

by CPCP on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Taj Played - he was fun. Bonnie played - she sounded great (as usual). They played together and rocked the house. High point was 2 songs Taj and Bonnie did in the middle of her set.

  • FANTASTIC SHOW

    by Mike45 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

The house was packed and everyone left smiling ear to ear. Though a bit cool and windy the audience was warmed with the delta rythums of Taj and the classics of Bonnie! Bonnie's voice is still as powerful as ever. The sound was crystal clear. If you missed this classic duet, shame on you! Well worth the price of admission!!!!!!

  • BonTaj Rocked!

by Nants on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

ok, it was a bit chilly and windy on the Rocks, but no rain so we stayed DRY! Taj Mahal started with a set to get everyone moving. Great tunes and awesome band. Bonnie played her set next and threw in her obligatory hits amongst some great blues, including a tune with the horn section from Taj's band. Her keyboard player was great. Then they all got down to some serious fun with both artists and both bands. A nice variety of tunes. The Rocks were Rockin'. What a great show - I didn't belive it was already 10:30 when they played their final tune. Almost 4 hours! Whoop.

  • Bonnie Raitt was awesome

by Kiwiwanabee on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

When Taj Mahal came together to play some of Missippi John Hurt's pieces, their collaboration was outstanding. I must admit to being more a fan of Bonnie Raitt than of Taj Mahal, but their styles of music meshed well together.

  • Great show

by scoulter on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Bonnie Raitt was outstanding - her voice / piano duo rendition of "Final Hour" had all 9,000 in the audience absolutely silent, entranced! For 5 beautiful minutes we all forgot we even HAD cell phones, or side conversations. Taj Mahal was thoroughly entertaining, as well, and their slide guitar duo of Mississippi John Hurt's "I'm Satisfied" was wonderful - a fitting tribute to one of the all-time great bluesmen.

  • Bonnie is my idol!

    by Sarita6 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great show - perfect weather and Bonnie still rocks as good or better than ever!!! The collaboration with Taj was great, but I would have loved to hear more of my Bonnie favorites...There's always next time!

  • BONTAJ ROULET: BONNIE RAITT & TAJ MAHAL ALONE AND

by tallandshortofit on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows we've ever seen in decades. Great musicians, tight bands and the horn section made it so rich! Songs from lots of styes - calypso, acoustic and electric blues, blow your socks off rock, reggae and more. Bonnie and Taj sound great together.

  • Bonnie & Taj Share the Stage, but...

by JulesSchools on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

... the show doesn't quite work. Some parts are killer, other parts feel lumpy potatoes. I think 1. Bonnie should open the show, do the same set as last night, 2. invite Taj out for one rip-roaring duet, 3. hand over the stage to Taj & his band for the same shorter set as last night, (a lot more people are still up & dancing this way), then 4. the two headliners come downstage with two guitars and just play/riff on a couple of real old blues tunes, and 5. then Bonnie does "I Can't Make You Love Me" and brings down the house, and finally 6. the two bands and Taj & Bon rock out for about 15 minutes. Say goodnight. 7. Return with a 12 minute encore. The song selections were strong for each individual artist, but if the final Bon-Taj combination is going to build and intensify, the set list needs to reach back into Bonnie and Taj's more familiar old catalogues. (Corrina, Shake Sugaree, No Business, Love Sneakin' Up On You, Love Me Like a Man.) Between them, they have so many great tunes for a re-imagined duet, or feature Taj on one of Bonnie's tunes and visa versa... Once again, my guitar-playing high school sophomore was really loving each band's set, but the show went on a little too long, and just didn't take us anywhere after "I Can't Make You." The blues guitar duet was truly awesome. The bands are so fine and tasty in the groove. You guys don't need an intermission, and neither does the audience. Let the Bon Taj Roulet!

  • Bonnie & TAJ were AWESOME!

    by Blondie46 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

They are amazing singers and the show was excellent. Bonnie was very down to earth and spoke to the crowd a lot! What a beautiful voice at an amazing venue! TAJ that man can belt one out...so fun.

  • I Love Bonnie Raitt !

by LuLu54 on 8/31/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 4 out of 5

I have been to several of Bonnie's concerts and I always enjoy her performances. Bonnie opened the show with some of her more famous hits such as Something to talk about, but I really enjoy some of her older songs.

  • Bonnie just keeps getting Better and Better!!!

by Hunamystic on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous show! Loved Bonnie and Taj together. Blues, Brews, Rain, Wind, and Moonlight along with Bonnie and Taj's 3 hour show made for an AMAZING night at Red Rocks. For entertainment value, it just doesn't get much better than this! I have been going to Bonnie's concerts since 1973 and love her more with each passing event... she Rocks me "like my body ain't got NO bones" each and every time! Just love you heart and soul Bonnie ;-D

  • Incredible show. Bonnie &Taj great together.

by ozziedoggie on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Bonnie shares her love of music and of people with the whole audience. A terrific performer who connects with the audience. Two stars whose voices are still in good shape. I loved how the 2 bands combined on several numbers. I left feeling like I really got my money's worth.

  • Bonnie Raitt, my girl!

by sqeila on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Bonnie was excellent. Taj Mahal wonderful. Surroundings at Red Rocks couldn't have been better. However, the wind was blowing hard enough to move the suspended speakers. This caused the sound to vary between loud enough to enjoy and barely audiable. Bummer. Why no close ups of Bonnie the way Taj did it on the monitor?

  • bontaj roulet

Fantastic show. Bonnie's voice is more incredible than ever.... loved the Blues duos with Taj too. Very moving.

  • Can't wait to see them again

by regatta on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Bonnie Raitt.. saw her at RR in '82. Can't believe I'd never listened to Taj before. They were both awesome. Have been to hundreds of concerts and this was up there as one of the top 10. There is not a better venue, for sure, and the performers obviously love it, too. My boyfriend wasn't familiar with either before and loved it as much as I did. Hope they come back again next summer.

  • Best Bonnie Raitt concert I have seen

by nursemimi on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

She sang all her best songs, was jammin' with Taj and they played for 3 hours.
