About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

  • BonTajRoulet was Superb!!!

by Beaderlynn on 9/1/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I had never seen Taj Mahal live previously, but was very anxious to do so, and definitely NOT disappointed! This was my fourth Bonnie Raitt show, and by far her best, in my opinion. Incredible how she gets better and more beautiful with age. She seemed so relaxed and comfortable with Taj, and visa-versa. They are a special force together. The handsome Taj is truly the MAESTRO, and man can he move! Both of their bands were AMAZING, and having all of them on stage for the last set was absolute FUN!

It totally rocked, they obviously had as much fun as we did.

  • Taj and Bonnie were awesome, crowd sucked!

    by Landshark78 on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

I though they put on a great show, and would see them again alone or together in a heart beat. The crowd though was a different story. I have NEVER been yelled at and had things thrown at me to sit down in my life while music that is meant to be danced to and enjoyed is being played, LIVE! Come on people....I will totally sit down if that is what is preffered by the musicians, but I would bet anyone that they (Taj and Bonnie) would prefer we get up and shake the tail feather, if that's what moves us. No where on the ticket does it say a seated show, and until then I will dance when I feel like dancing!

  • Bonnie and Taj were fabulous!

by Micalena on 9/1/09Minnesota State Fair Grandstand - St PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed Bon Taj Roulet but would like to have seen more of Bonnie. She was obviously in a lot of pain from Steve's death and the fact that she was able to give such a great concert shows how much she loves making music and entertaining her fans. I had never heard Taj Mahal before and thought he blended well with Bonnie. I will always go to see Bonnie whenever she is in Minnesota!

  • Wildly Transcendent!

by Babslaff on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Taj Majal was frisky, bluesy, sexy, with those moves and that serious harmonica. I only knew the name, but now he is set to get a little richer as I am buying up the music--probably the best opener I have seen. And Bonnie? Ah, Bonnie...dished herself up in little, succulent spoonsful leaving everyone fully satisfied. I had waited 35 years to hear her sing 'Angel from Montgomery' live, and though she must have sung it more than 1,000 times, she did not disappoint. It was, for me, transcendent. Red Rocks Ampitheater is an almost holy venue, shrugging around the stage like an embrace, and the music felt as necessary as my own soul-shaped sweater as she sang that song. The musical choices of the set were predictable as they must be--can't play music from 10s of cds--but energetic and da total bomb. Bonnie looked and sounded like an angel with a twist of the sensuous, twinkling edge of a sprite. The encore began with quiet, mind-blowing energy as the crowd held silent for her heart jamming rendition of 'I Can't Make You Love Me." Again, she brought me to a place where I felt it was just she and I, a personal performance. Her voice was as pure and dramatic as my most fervent wish for it, and again. She is the ONLY performer of whom I can say, "She sounds better live." The set was finished with racous, flippant, joyous and straight forward blues with Taj Majal, and the house was rockin' every single moment. I went home satisfied, and people nearly floated to the parking lot. I hope Bonnie and Taj felt the same--I saw many hijacked hearts floating their way as they made their way off the stage.

  • Bonnie was great as always!

Bonnie Raitt never disappoints her fans and appearing with Taj made for a great evening of entertainment. Both of them are exceptional performers and they delivered in the best concert site in the US - Red Rocks.

  • BonTaj: Smokin' Hot

by RedRocksMike on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

I would have liked to have seen Bonnie Raitt play more from her first three recordings and the horns provided by the Phantom Blues Band gave her a golden opportunity to do so. Who can complain though. The chemistry between Raitt and Taj Mahal was there. The bands played flawlessly both together and for each band's solo set .

  • BonTaj Roulet Rocked

    by Candy9494 on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Greatest venue - can't beat Red Rocks. Both Taj and Bonnie were great alone and really rocked together. When Bonnie sang Angel from Montgomery, I had tears in my eyes - wonderful!!!!

  • Taj is a must see!!!

by montysmom on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Going to this show, I was mainly interested in seeing Taj Mahal. As usual, extremely entertaining, connecting with the audience. I was never a big Bonnie Raitt fan but I must say, she's got a wonderful and powerful voice. When the two sang together, it was magical!

  • Fan-tabulous!!

by Minion on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

The artists were glad to be there, the crowd was excited to be there and the weather cooperated after giving everyone reason for concern. It was the perfect ending to summer--blues New Orleans style! So glad we made the trip from Grand Junction for a grand time.

  • Great Mix of Taj, Bonnie and Large Band

by srdzak on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed the show! Taj Mahal is great and backed by the Phantom Blues band has really got a good sound. Bonnie of course is amazing. Would have liked to have her solo set a little longer because she has so much good material and is soooo good. When Taj and Bonnie and the Phantom blues came together the party really started and everyone was on their feet dancin. This show was a good concept and I like how they put it together and performed! Highly Recommended!

  • BonTaj Roulet a real treat

    by Stringbend714 on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

WOW! Love Bonnie. Love Taj. The two of them together? 100% pure, outta this world blues GOLD!! Performing at Red Rocks can be a bit of a challenge. Thunderstorms earlier in the afternoon had prevented a thorough sound check so there were some "live" adjustments early on and there were a couple of occasions when instrument signals obviously weren't reaching the sound board, but there was nothing to diminish the thrill at all. It was a little windy and just a tad chilly that night, but Bonnie and Taj got things cooking early and kept it that way. One of my most favourite moments came when Bonnie and Taj pulled up a couple of chairs and started an acoustic guitar jam session right on stage. I could imagine these two friends just sitting in their living room doing the same kind of thing - just an easy, happy, affectionate musical interplay between them. No egos, and nothing to prove. When the two bands came together at the end, I wasn't sure how that would come off (two drummers?) but the blend was really smooth and the result was virtually seamless.

  • Bonnite Raitt/Taj Mahal review

by Watchorn on 9/1/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Great show but I drove 300 miles & couldn't even take a picture. Red Rocks is such a beautiful place & we couldn't even bring pics home from it to look @ or show our friends. We won't go again if camera's aren't allowed. When I bought the tickets there should be an info section that tells you if you can take pics or not.

  • Bonnie at the Rocks

by wwilke on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Both Taj and Bonnie were awesome and their set together was the best, particularly the acoustic set. It was a cool and rainy day and it started out windy but overall totally awesome.

  • Bonnie Raitt and Tah Mahal

    by Toot356 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely the best show I have ever seen. I have always been a fan of Bonnie Raitt but after seeing her in concert I can't get enough. That woman is absolutely the best entertainer I have ever seen and I love love love listening to her sing. I could never get enough.

  • Bontaj, Bonnie Raitt

    by Billybob13 on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

As a real big fan of both of these artists, I have seen older performers like these before whom are still in their prime. Taj Mahal was average at best. Sang with a lot of gravel. It was his reluctance to play guitar in his first set that did not highlight his talent. He did some later duets with Bonnie that was better. Bonnie's last portion of her second set was sloppy did not bring much intensity to her guitar skills. Some of her more popular songs were to done to script instead of jams. Neither artist was there to jam anything. Red Rocks was (is) a great venue.

  • Fabulous performance

though she didnt play too long, the music was excellent. Bonnie's guitar and voice were in perfect form.

  • Bonnie's voice soared against the wind

by drewage on 8/31/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Bonnie's voice was incredible even though the cold wind was against her. She still could carry incredible emotion with her songs. Not to mention she can play an axe like any great bluesman. Taj Mahal is a legend, but Bonnie Raitt is one too. Taj was not on his A-Game and Bonnie did carry him some, but there were great moments when they played acoustic together.
