  • Much to be Desired

by Mrs. K on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

Arrived at 6:15 to be in line for Covid protocol and to get seated when the doors opened at 6:30. The only way I can describe it is that it was Organized Chaos. People were everywhere, in lines and in crowds indoors and outdoors. It was very hot, with many people struggling to remain in line (older people, disabled people, overweight people etc) We waited in line for an hour and a half before the doors opened!! After being processed through, we waited in line AGAIN. Venue security informed people that the reason was because "Blue Man Group" was running late and their promoters did not allow people to be seated while they were getting the stage set up. After waiting in line another half hour, we were finally allowed to go to our seats. One plus, didn't have to wait long for the show to start, even though it started about an hour late and people were still being seated after the show had started. THE SHOW WAS VERY ENTERTAINING!! BUT.... Due to the disorganization of the whole thing, I won't go see them again.

  • Bad Staging

by Ellie on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

The opening for the stage was so small that people on either side of the venue closest to the stage could not see the entire event. The venue should not have sold seats in those sections or should have noted that there would be an "obstructed view". Blue Man Group was wonderful. Just wish we could have seen the entire view.

  • Poor venue

by Jac on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

Cross Arena in Portland, ME was a poor venue to see Blue Man Group. Floor seating had terrible views. Stage to low. Staff stated tour group was behind in setting up stage. Patrons ( many elderly and children) had to wait outside in a line that went around the building for over an hour with no bathrooms or places to sit. Show did not start until 50 minutes after stated time on tickets. Felt as though show was shortened. Spent a lot of money for family to attend. Waste of money at this venue.

  • BAD

It was horrible, we left the show after 5 minutes. Would not recommend for any age.

  • No View

by JMH on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I have seen Blue Man several time, including the Complex tour in 2003, It was at the Civic Center & was amazing. The seating was poor, we had floor seats and couldn't see anything. No screens, so you could see what was happening. We spent a lot for our seats. I could deal with the show starting late but seating was horrible

  • So Disappointing!

by K. L. on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I have seen BMG two times before this show (Vegas and New York) and I thought those shows were AMAZING. The one in Portland fell flat in MANY ways. Not worth the cost at all. First of all, they started AN HOUR late. Not only is that disrespectful to all of the paying attendees who made plans to get there on time, but that makes it really challenging for families who brought young children who now have to stay up later than planned…on a MONDAY (school night). Secondly, the show itself was a watered-down version of the other shows I have seen. All they did was make everything into a drum, wack on it and call it a show. Also they they spent too much time roaming the audience for volunteers and when they did finally pick one, they ended up being super awkward and annoying on stage. Didn’t know what they were supposed to do. Like watching a slow motion car crash. So bad! Overall, I would not recommend this show to anyone. It also makes me question whether or not I would go to another show at the Cross Insurance Arena at all. For family-friendly shows in the future, please make them happen on Weekends and offer a matinee performance…and start on time!

  • Wish I could say it was fun

by Russ on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

Wish I could say it was fun. paid for premium seats for myself and my kids, as did quite a few others who brought their younger kids. Every parent had their three or four-year-olds on their shoulders or in their laps jumping around like crazy. Orchestra was not the place to sit, you couldn’t see the performers at all. The venue was horrible for orchestra seating because it was all flat. I’ve seen them twice before in Boston and had a blast, but that was 10 years ago. The performance was great, the material was lacking. They did their signature songs, but the rest of it was sometimes painful to listen to. Lots of dissonance. The crowd participation was the worst of it, in a massive stadium they would disappear down an aisle and the stage screens wouldn’t show you anything. That left almost everybody guessing at what was happening. I wish I could say I had fun, the venue was probably the worst of the experience, but I’m not sure a different one would’ve helped.

  • Great show but...

by Jennmcg on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

The Blue Man group was great fun despite them starting an hour late. The only thing was that i was pretty far from the stage and they did not have any giant screens up so i missed most of the details.

  • Very disappointed with seating

by Joline on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I'm normally not one to complain, but our seats were definitely obstructed by the huge speaker system. We could only see one side of the stage. This should never happen. Seat planning was definitely not priority. They started late which leads me to believe they had some sort of issue, however, our section should have been given the opportunity to be re-seated or have our money at least partially refunded. A definite disappointment. You all dropped the ball on this one but had no problem keeping our money.

  • Blue Man Group

by Bee on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

After arriving more than 30 minutes early we did not make it to the performance due to the length and very slow speed of the line for entrance. A terrible venue that can’t figure out how to admit ticket holders in a timely fashion.

  • Late

by JL on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

They were over an hour late to start the show and seemed a bit lackluster.

  • Underwhelmed

by Jim on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

I had been looking forward to this show as soon as I found out about them coming. Maybe I expected to much. While the show was entertaining I didn’t think it showcased their talents fully. The background drummer played more than they did. Crowd involvement was entertaining but a lot of overkill. The show was very short (1hr. & 10 mins.) for the money. To top it off it started an hour late. We stood in line outside longer than the show. I understand Covid has raised hell with everything but that was ridiculous. Thank heavens it wasn’t raining. Gates were scheduled to open at 6:30 to my knowledge. Allowing everyone to start filtering in at that time would have alleviated that situation and the venue would have made more money on concession sales. Staff at the gates were the one positive to this experience. If I were to buy tickets at your venue it would be with great hesitation.

  • It was less than I’ve come to expect

by Joshua B on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

The skits were really long and drawn out this time and felt boring and engaging, waiting for them to get back to music. Their use of unique, inventive instruments was limited, then immediately drown out by the band, losing the cool factor of visual feedback to the music. It wasn’t a bad experience, but I’ve no desire to see them again in concert.

  • Disappointed

by anonymous on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

We were very excited as we haven’t had a date night in months. We arrived at 6:40pm with the tickets stating the doors would open at 6:30pm. The 2 lines were wrapped completely around the arena. We had to stand there for an hour as the doors didn’t open until 7:40pm-ish when the actual show was supposed to start at 730pm. Around 7:45pm we finally got into the doors where no one was wearing a mask, tons of people just standing there with no where to move or go. Vaccination cards weren’t checked once. We got to our seats and couldn’t see half of the left side of the stage. Completely unacceptable for the price of the ticket that we paid. Severely disappointed with the entire process and show. For the show that was planned so far in advance this was just severely maddening. We will never attend another show at the arena due to this experience. If I could give 0 stars I would.

  • Worst BMG Ever

by BW Bickford on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

First, we were sold tickets that had zero visibility to the stage. The entire section was angry and could not believe the stage was configured for only a straightforward view. Secondly, I have seen the blue men before in Portland, boston and Vegas. All these show were fast paced, engaging and professional. This show, once we repositioned our seating, was like a high school show. They did well with their iconic drum and paint moments but the antics were slow and boring. They performed for 1 hr and 10 minutes total. We were glad it was over.

  • Good but not great

by Gull on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

I love the Blue Man Group and always will but there were certainly things that could have been done by the venue to ensure that people sitting in the back had better viewing. I have attended shows at other venues and they typically use large screens so that people in the back have better views of the stage - that was lacking here. Then there was the delay in getting into the venue - doors were supposed to open at 6:30 and show at 7:30 - I am pretty sure we didn't get into our seats until at 7:45.

  • Blue Man Group Fiasco

by S. S. on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

Show was supposed to start at 7:30. Arrived at 7pm. There's a line. They're not letting people in. After waiting outside in a line that now goes around the entire Civic Center at 8pm they finally start letting people in. That was short lived. Crammed like sardines in the lobby because BMGroup wasn't ready so we couldn't go to our seats. Finally around 8:20 they let people go to their seats. Found our seats. only 1 of the 4 of us could see the entire stage. I paid over $400.00 for the best seat. HELL NO! I was livid. Also, they finally started the show at 8:40 but because they made us wait outside for so long, a ton of people weren't even in their seats yet when they started the show. To top it off, they only played until 9:30 so we didn't even get a full show. Their shows are on average 120 minutes. Very disappointed!

  • Could not see the stage at all

by Mark on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

Where we were sitting (at a side angle) you could not see the stage at all due to how it was inset and large speakers to the sides.

  • Hard to see

by Jacob on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

The Blue Man Group is undoubtedly talented and they have always been enjoyable to watch. Unfortunately this latest experience was a bit different as it was very difficult to see what was going on on stage. Our seats were in one of the back corners of the arena and there really wasn’t any sort of screen, like most concerts, comedy performances, etc. that would allow for audience members sitting farther away from the stage to see what was occurring. Others around us seemed distracted due to the same reason. Overall, the group is fun to watch and we would go see them again, just would like a better visual so we can full enjoy it.

  • Disapointed

by Mom of two on 5/26/22Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

They delayed the show but didn’t send out any type of communication, but then wouldn’t let us in. They made us stand in the heat together. The show started over an hour late. Last I checked Blue Man was a kid show. So they didn’t give us a heads up and then made us all melt waiting and then all the kids were either too tired to enjoy it or still cooling off forever.
