About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    The 2 Leads Were Phenonmenal!

    by MusicalGirl on 8/29/23

We saw Wicked at DPAC and were blown away by the powerful voices and likeability of the 2 leads, Elphaba and Glinda (or Gaahlinda) LOL. We were not famliar with the story and tried to connect it to the Wizard of Oz the best we could. A little confusing at times but VERY entertaining. The set and effects were amazing! We sat in the front of the Grand Tier and the sound was great. The show definitely lived up to its hype and DPAC is always a wonderful venue.

    Best Experience

    by Mary on 8/28/23

DPAC is a great venue with friendly efficient staff. Parking is easy to find and handled well. For the second time, we were upgraded from nosebleed seats to the floor, courtesy of Blue Cross! The musical was stunning! They have a great Broadway line up.

    Amazing

    by RV on 8/28/23

We seen the show half a dozen times now, and it is yet to disappoint. Seeing the touring group a number of times, and I’ve also seen it on Broadway and the show is absolutely spectacular. Cast is amazing and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time we’ve seen it.

    Amazing show

    by Kathy B on 8/28/23

My second time seeing the show with a different tour. They didn’t disappoint. The group was fantastic. I got chills from their voices no less than 5 times and was in tears at the end of Defying Gravity. Excellent performance! Bravo !

Terrible sound, rushed - altogether a rough performance

    by Sean on 8/28/23

Musicals at DPAC are usually stellar but this was not. It was very rushed, the sound levels were all over the place and we couldn’t understand any lyrics. Spoke with a number of folks on the way out who felt similarly. Huge waste of money and of an evening.

    FAVORITE musical!

    by GirlDrama on 8/28/23

It was my second time seeing Wicked, but my daughters first and they LOVED it, probably more than I did. The singing was breathtaking, the set was colorful, and the actors were phenomenal. The venue was alright. It was fun for all ages (although I think some under the age of 8 may have a hard time following and sitting still). We all wore our green dresses and came out singing all the songs. Would recommend to everyone.

    Gravity defying experience!

    by Mary on 8/28/23

Fantastic production! The last time I saw Wicked was in London 10 years ago, so I was very excited to see it again. This was my husband's first time seeing it, and he was blown away. DPAC staff were great, as always

    Terrible acoustics/parking options @DPAC/Durham, NC.

    by Linda on 8/27/23

The performance and staff were wonderful. No close parking and the acoustics were awful. For $300/ ticket, the sound should be a lot better.
