The Office! A Musical Parody
The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.
The Office! A Musical Parody History
The British send-up of dysfunctional workplace life that was broadcast on BBC from 2001 through 2003 became such a success in America that it couldn't help but inspire a US version. Premiering in 2005, the American Office, starring Steve Carell, lasted for an amazing nine seasons. When Bob and Tobly McSmith took the stateside sitcom series and created a theatrical version, the pair had already let their satirical minds loose on musical takeoffs of everything from Friends to Full House, so by the time they tackled The Office, they were fully primed. But this is far from just a stage re-creation. As a musical parody, the production mines the medium for even more comic gold -- and gives you something to hum on the way home. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or getting introduced to the characters for the first time, The Office! A Musical Parody will prove that however insane your own workplace may seem to you, it's comparatively a whole lot more normal than you may think.
We had a blast and laughed the entire time! Small theater and there isn't a bad sear. Highly recommend!
great casting for the office characters. It was a small venue (which I love) and a small audience but the performers snag and dances their hearts out like it was a packed house. I found myself laughing and smiling the entire show
loved it! it was very true to the show and didn’t fail to make me laugh!
The cast are all talented and did the very best they could. Chuckled many times but overall the plot is really lacking. These actors deserve more!
As a fan of The Office, this was a great show! Many of the actors nailed their characters:) it was a cute little theater and there was good audience participation/interaction. I would recommend this show.
What a fun evening. The cast is very good. Dwight (Jack Baugh) is incredible. I loved the show.
I thought the show was well done. Some of the scenes chosen were not the most significant for The Office, but were recognizable. The actors did a super job!
True to the office and laugh out loud funny. Well worth it.
Phenomenal cast - nailed the characters! It was funny and entertaining. Highly reccomend.
Great fun for a fan of the office! The venue was intimate and the actors really interacted with the audience, making you feel part of the show, especially with Jim and Dwight's looks at the 'camera'. My only complaint was that the seats were quite uncomfortable and we sat on the front row which meant our feet were on the stage, and was concious of making sure my legs never got in the way of the actors. I would highly recommend this for any fan of the office. The songs were very clever and they managed to fit so many well known quotes and storylines from the show. I read before watching this show that there were several negative reviews about Michael Scott's role played by a woman, but to me she was one of the best parts about the show. They were all incredible actors who got the character quips down to a T.
I’m trying to find more friends to take to see this! The cast was spectacular and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wish I knew about it sooner!
Acting was ok, but what really made it enjoyable was the non-stop "inside jokes" marathon. If you truly know all the seasons and episodes, then you will enjoy all the twists and turns the show takes. For a true "The Office" fan.....
The entire cast was excellent. Michael and Oscar were exceptional and I look forward to seeing them both on the marquee at future films and/or plays.
The actors were great. We sat to the left of the stage in the second row. Whenever someone was singing, the music drowned them out. It would have been more enjoyable if the sound system was balanced. Perhaps if we sat in the center it would have sounded better.
I was really excited for a parody of the office as i have watched the series many times. I was hoping the show would have more of a plot. (Ex:The branch is going under) that the show would follow. Instead, it was just every memorable moment from the series in a sequence. Would have liked more content.
The show was very entertaining and a perfect rendition of the actual sitcom. It did not disappoint!
We both fell asleep during the performance. audio quality was awful. Characters sometimes didn’t make sense. We maybe chuckled twice in the hour and 45 minutes being there. No Stanley or Darrell which is a drag. Very disappointing.
The show was a real disappointment. I saw the Friends production, and enjoyed it. I always thought the Office was a much funnier TV show. The Office was just not good. The music wasn’t catchy, and there weren’t many good jokes.
It had a few funny moments. It was a bit of an absudist take on the actual plots from the office. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It’s in a very small theater and the music is piped in. The person who played Michael was fantastic. I was also impressed that the actors all played multiple characters really well. Overall it’s an amusing way to kill a couple hours, but I wouldn’t make it a priority.
Just saw this show today with family and all I can say is "wow"! If you're a fan of The Office, you have to see this show. The cast was super talented and fun to watch-we couldn't stop laughing!! Wonderful experience and we loved it so much we will be back!!
