The Office! A Musical Parody
The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.
The Office! A Musical Parody History
The British send-up of dysfunctional workplace life that was broadcast on BBC from 2001 through 2003 became such a success in America that it couldn't help but inspire a US version. Premiering in 2005, the American Office, starring Steve Carell, lasted for an amazing nine seasons. When Bob and Tobly McSmith took the stateside sitcom series and created a theatrical version, the pair had already let their satirical minds loose on musical takeoffs of everything from Friends to Full House, so by the time they tackled The Office, they were fully primed. But this is far from just a stage re-creation. As a musical parody, the production mines the medium for even more comic gold -- and gives you something to hum on the way home. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or getting introduced to the characters for the first time, The Office! A Musical Parody will prove that however insane your own workplace may seem to you, it's comparatively a whole lot more normal than you may think.
An awesome show depicting the characters of The Office. Very funny and smart.
Very am-dram style, very disappointing. Not what I expected to see in new york.
Fun show with a wonderful cast! Annabelle is the perfect Michael Scott!
I took my wife to the show for her birthday. She is a huge fan of the office. I and her were laughing from the start to the finish. Tho there was a few characters missing. We had a really really good time .
The Office The Musical parody was awesome, and I'm not even a fan of the show. My friend who is a fan and knew every episode also loved it. We loved the cast, who had terrific energy with most of them playing multiple roles. Jennifer Molson who played Angela and others was so funny, and has a great singing voice. I do feel I got swindled by Ticketmaster. I was planning to take advantage of the "20at20"promotion and get tickets 20 minutes before the show, however when I checked the night before it looked like there weren't many seats left. Not wanting to miss the show our last night in town I went ahead and bought full price tickets. It turned out the theater was mostly empty so Ticketmaster is showing many seats as unavailable when in fact they are open. This is deceptive and I will try not to buy from Ticketmaster again if I have any choice.
Both of us (1 fan of the office and 1 who never sees the serie) enjoyed a lot this show ! The rythme, the music, the choregraphy, the jokes, the quality of the casting... Everything is very awesomely in place to do a great show. The actors are incredible in each characters they are playing and the energy of the stage is incredible. We came without big expectations but we come out with a lot of happiness regarding this fantastic piece of art ! Congratulation to the whole cast but special ones to Jen Molson who just impress us so much !
We are big fans of the office. The show was nice, in the way it kept the reference to the show. Good value for the money
It was really great. The actors and actresses are incredible.
If you don’t know the show, you won’t get the references but these are some of the funniest actors and most loved scenes and parodies ever. Fantastic contemporary references to musicals as well as other shows that the actors from the Office have been in ( think Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme song. ). It’s had to mid …. That’s what she said
It was a good show. Very poorly attended, but still enjoyable. I love The Office and this was a great parody.
A bright young energetic cast. Great singing and dancing. Very talented group. Fun script. Great performance!
So funny! Excellent singing and and acting. Cast seems to really enjoy themselves. Venue is quaint and offers an intimate atmosphere.
The play was fun and very well done, very enjoyable for The Office fans (I think everyone in the audience must have been a fan). The actor who played Jim/Andy was excellent, and the actors who played Michael and Angela, who played multiple roles, were also very good. The theater is very small, we were seating on the first row and were literally on stage, next time I would choose a row further back. If I was in NYC I would see it again, and I would go back to that small theater to see other plays, it is very intimate. I wish they would have had a flyer with the names of the actors.
Absolutely hilarious play! It was so spot on and really hit the mark. At first I was thinking how are they going to pull off a musical parody but they knocked it out of the park. Laughed the whole time. Great performances and just so fun!
A lot of little details of tua whole sitcom were observed. If you are a fan don't miss it. Pam was a really great singer!
Small theater but great actors!! Covered a nice amount of popular scenes from the show. I’m a HUGE Office fan and so glad I got to go while on my work trip to NYC:)
First, I have to comment on the theater. It's awesomely small, so most seats offer a very good view because the stage is only a few feet away (or literally at your feet, if you are in the front row). However, the seats are incredibly uncomfortable, the cushions have no support, so you sink down into the frame. Also, the lobby smells like cat pee. Now, about the show: actors were mostly excellent at portraying their character(s). Some excelled more than others. Sets and costumes looked reaaaaally worn out. The 2nd act sort of went off the rails...the inclusion of Kathy Bates character - m'eh, 4 letter words sprinkled in unnecessarily, a weird story line including a cocaine addiction, and a male character none of us fans recognized, and why was Karen portrayed as Italian? Overall, we enjoyed the show and are glad we had a chance to see it before it's gone. I'm guessing it's approaching it's end, hence the appearance of the sets/costumes looking so run down and as there were only about 25 people in the audience for a Sunday matinee.
Follows the quirky nature of the TV show, but extends it beyond with song, dance and new themes! Angela (and her other characters) were awesome.
The show was funny. I think you definitely should be an Office fan to catch all the little references. Really enjoyed it.
The show was extremely clever and quite entertaining, and the actors truly gave it their all, many in multiple roles. Songs and lyrics were clever, although not as much to those not as familiar with the show, who may be confused at times. Overall, a very enjoyable experience for all!
