The Office! A Musical Parody

The beloved mockumentary reaches a new level of laughs with The Office! A Musical Parody. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of The Office premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American Office became an enormous hit series -- and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on.

The Office! A Musical Parody History

The British send-up of dysfunctional workplace life that was broadcast on BBC from 2001 through 2003 became such a success in America that it couldn't help but inspire a US version. Premiering in 2005, the American Office, starring Steve Carell, lasted for an amazing nine seasons. When Bob and Tobly McSmith took the stateside sitcom series and created a theatrical version, the pair had already let their satirical minds loose on musical takeoffs of everything from Friends to Full House, so by the time they tackled The Office, they were fully primed. But this is far from just a stage re-creation. As a musical parody, the production mines the medium for even more comic gold -- and gives you something to hum on the way home. Whether you're a die-hard fan of the series or getting introduced to the characters for the first time, The Office! A Musical Parody will prove that however insane your own workplace may seem to you, it's comparatively a whole lot more normal than you may think.

    This show deserves a Dundee!

by Italee on 4/19/22The Theater Center - New York

As a fan of The Office, it was perfect! The show did such a wonderful job of covering all nine seasons within the short time frame. The actors performances were dead on, hysterical and did a wonderful job of connecting to the audience. If you are a fan of The Office than this is a must see!

    Crying laughing!

by Mary Lou on 4/17/22The Theater Center - New York

This theatre is a hidden gem- we always love to go, and when SJP still sick for Plaza Suite, got these inexpensive tickets instead. We were honestly exhausted by the end of the show because we were crying with laughter the entire time. These actors are amazing and if you are a fan of the office you almost have to see this show several times to catch all the inside jokes and nuances. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

For anyone who is a fan of The Office this is a show you don’t want to miss! Its small venue & small cast make you feel like your right in the show with them. The music is great & the cast is absolutely amazing!

    Lots of laughs!!

by Katie W. on 3/29/22The Theater Center - New York

My family of 4 attended and we all loved it! Actors really nailed the humor and did a great job connecting to the audience. Fun to see how they tied so many episodes together.

It was a good show. Obviously tough to cram 9 seasons of a show in a 2 hour show but was very entertaining.

by CP on 3/7/22The Theater Center - New York

The title for this Review is very much self explanatory, but for brevity’s sake I couldn’t be anymore happy that I got to watch this show as my first foray in the Broadway space! Everything from the stage choreography, musical score and humour was Perfect🙌🏾 A resounding, standing ovation for the cast and director! 💛

    Fun Afternoon

by AclC on 3/3/22The Theater Center - New York

I read reviews prior to going to see the Office Parody. It stated if you loved the show you would enjoy seeing this. I completely agree with this. If you weren’t a fan of The Office or it’s humor you also won’t appreciate this show. Now with that being said if the office ever made you laugh then this is a must see show. The theatre is small and thus the staff is very accommodating with seats. The fun drinks at the bar are a perk. Plus not the inflated prices like at other shows. The actor that played Jim is a spot on look alike and has the body language down. It was odd at first to see a female play Michael Scott but she is amazing! Overall If you just want to relax and have a laugh this show is a must see!

    Better than I expected

by OfficeGuy on 2/22/22The Theater Center - New York

Was never in the theater before and the proximity to the stage from the audience made it seem like the actors were in your living room. Amazing show and experience. Would go again.

    Office Parody Falls Flat

by EmB on 2/21/22The Theater Center - New York

I was excited to see this parody as the Office is one of my favorite shows. However, this show doesn’t do it for me. They try to cram the entire series into one show that is over two hours. It felt like getting hit over the head with Office memes. The jokes were tired, the songs were forgettable, and the pacing was slow and off. Also, there were no black characters. No Stanley, no Daryl, no Charles Minor. It was off putting in todays climate to see them eliminate the black characters. Would not recommend this show.

    Entertaining

by Bvm on 1/3/22The Theater Center - New York

The theater is small but don’t let that throw toy off. It’s a great show, funny, and a little raunchy. I wouldn’t recommend it for young kids. It’s perfect for The Office lovers and even if you’ve never watch it, it’s still funny. I got tickets for my husbands Christmas gift. He’s not the biggest fan of musicals but loves the show. He was laughing and really enjoyed himself. Great show for a great price.

The acting was decent. I appreciated the references to the original show. Unfortunately some things went over my head since I do not recall the episode. All in all, it was a nice venue. Staff was great. Unfortunately, my husband and I was not entertained by the production. Good effort, but I wouldn't recommend the trip to NYC and cost to see it.

    Not cheesy at all

by Mandy on 12/7/21The Theater Center - New York

This show was amazing! Saw it at the Theatre Center in NYC, a tiny place with only a few rows of seating. The cast interacted with the audience throughout the show like we were the cameramen. All the best jokes from the tv show are in there, only thing missing was Stanley!

    Hilarious - well worth it!

by Kieran on 11/30/21The Theater Center - New York

I was a little unsure about this show at first. My kids are really big fans of the tv show. The theater entrance was small and unassuming, the theater itself is very small. The show was AMAZING though. It is a simple set, but the acting was really good. Kudos to all the cast. The show apparently covered a lot of the plot from the tv show cleverly. It was very funny (even for non tv show fans), and there were lots of jokes - mostly very clean, and I felt it was suitable for our 13 and 16 year olds. Would definitely recommend this to others!

    Not worth the money

by B on 11/17/21The Theater Center - New York

If you’re a fan of The Office you will enjoy the show for its content. The script was funny. Stanley was missing though. The price of the ticket wasn’t worth it in my opinion. Bad props, bad costumes, bad set, etc… For not much more money you can get the cheapest Broadway ticket for a show that will be much better quality. Shoutout to the ushers who were strictly enforcing the mask policy. A+ there.
